Jaunary 2008 Questionnaire on upgrading to Microsoft Excel 2007 241 results for Question #4 What do you like most about Excel 2007? 1) The fact that it takes a few extra seconds to figure out how to employ your, tips., , It still doesn't do maps in the way that Excel 97 did but which was removed from Excel 2005 and sold as part of another stand-alone MS product. At least for those with US data those maps were a GREAT way to illustrate geographic data. Now I have to export data, open it on a desktop that has an oooold copy of Excel, make the map, and paste that as a JPEG back into whatever Excel 2007 file I was working with. Pain. In. The. Arse. 2) I think that their upgrades to the size of sheet (number of rows and columns) was a big add. I was also very impressed with the upgrades to the pivot tables and the ability to highlight every other line, conditional formatting upgrades and other "Capabilities" 3) Increased data manipulation/analysis capabilities, although I have, not had a chance to really use these. Otherwise, other than some, improvements in the graphics/image handling, there doesn't seem to be that, large a difference to Excel 2003. 4) Well, it is the same as #3, the functions are very easy to use. All of, the functions are out on the toolbars, or ribbons as they are calling, them now. They have wizards to walk you thru everything. 5) My favorite new features are: 1 - Increase in rows 2 - The check boxes in the auto-filter drop down. 3 - Easier conditional formatting 4 - Longer recently used file list and files are pinable. 6) I like that I am able to save as a prior Excel version since most people, don't have it. I only really use it if I am working on a project that I, can't get done in my regular work hours. 7) The greatly expanded size of a spreadsheet is the feature that is most likely to get me using the new version. Currently we use Access linked to Excel in larger data situations. 8) I like the new features such as shadows. etc. that let you make your, sheets look even nicer. I'm not sure yet I like the new menu system, but the more I try it the more I am, beginning to like it 9) So far, there's not much I like about 2007. I understand that many of the limitations of 2003 had been fixed (e.g., each Excel cell can hold a lot more in 2007 and I also think you can use conditional formatting with more than just 3 colors in 2007). 10) There are many more formatting options especially with Conditional Formatting. They raised many of the limits such as levels of sorting and levels of nesting in formulas. 11) Everything almost (except ans. provided in no. 5 below) !! I can do everything on the fly (a feature with entire Office 2007). Filter has so many new options, whole lot of extra new features, bringing so much color to the mundane life. 12) I mostly like the way the menu bar is sectioned. It makes for quickly, finding that option you are looking for instead of trying to remember, where you last saw it., Also the autohelp with formulas is exciting. 13) I am not very good at using Excel - using formula's and manipulating the, worksheets, but Excel 2007 seems more user friendly than the 2003 version., I'm better able to figure out how to make it do what I want it to. 14) I like the looks of the new interface, but I am not convinced it is better at this time. I also like the additional rows and columns, but I am afraid it is at a heavy memory cost to my system. 15) Speed. Excel can use the laptop core duo processors and use more than 1 GB of RAM. We have develop complex financial models and, Excel 2007 is at least 30% faster (50% when saving) 15) The way in which the Ribbon logically groups features, and functions according to the way in which users use them; the new features in the software (for example, under Conditional Formatting, charts, tables, etc.). Hovering your mouse over an option (e.g., a data table) to allow you to see how it will look if you apply that option is great not to mention the number of new, built-in formats now available. This is THE best version of Excel I've ever worked with. 17) • Allows more than 65,000 rows (we've used 600,000+ rows in some business models) • Charts can now be used for marketing/presentation material (big bonus!) as well. 18) They are so many more rows & columns to work with. The, Freeze Panes feature has more options such as freezing top row or first column that are nice. I love the new conditional formatting icons, bar graphs etc. that you can put right into the cell. 19) Once I find where the formatting features I want are located there's some added choices that are nice. ie; conditional formatting, and validation have more visual examples than 2003. As the mouse hovers, it shows what it will look like (colors, fonts, etc). 20) I had heard that most keyboard shortcuts/memorized keystrokes wouldn't be supported. That was obviously incorrect. So far, I haven't found anything that I had to "reprogram" my fingers for. 21) It's a tie for me. I always needed additional rows in Excel, so that is a plus for me and I also like how the formats change as soon as you hover over a format. 22) Interface is nice. Lots more cells available. Unlimited sorts, unlimited conditional formats, better cell styles, easier to find formulas and well, just about everything. 23) I really like the classification of each category on a tool bar, also the fact that it changes in "real time" any modification done to fonts, colors, etc. 24) 1-The massive addition of space/rows! 2-The, ability to easily select page items in pivot tables. 3-I discovered the, documents & settings\user name\local settings\application, data\microsoft\office\excel.qat file which contains all of my toolbar, customizations. Copying this file to another computer makes it easy to, have excel the way I want it on multiple machines without having to set, everything up multiple times. If this exists in other versions, it, would be a good tip for you write about. One version of excel, maybe, 2000, would loose your settings & it was frustrating having to set them, up multiple times. 25) Most handy so far has been the extra columns as I had several spreadsheets that I had to split because I had gone beyond the maximum number of columns 26) The improved integration of the Office Suite. Plus, the enlarged toolbars make the buttons much more accessable (without Excel 2003 customizing them). 27) Now that I am finally getting more familiar with where the commands are, I like that they are so available. But it took me a while to find them. 28) The ribbons actually help as the most frequently used drop down windows are readily available. Also for the seamless integration of the charts. 29) Conditional formatting really wowed me. I wish I'd used Excel more during my free trial so i could have gotten to know the other new features. 30) I like how the ribbons are grouping the tasks together. It actually makes sense. I also like the added features for formatting. Whoo hoo!!!! 31) I use Excel for drawing electrical schematics. 2007 has good drawing tools but I have to learn the shortcuts to enable use them easily. 32) The access to the formatting functions. The pre-view of format. The pop-up explanations are nice, even if useful only the first time. 33) I like the formatting options best, the page layout options and the ribbons are very convenient once you stop hunting for things. 34) number of rows has been extended from 64K to just over 1M - this I find most useful as I normally deal with v. large spreadsheets 35) I like that items which were previously in drop down menus are now in the ribbon. I also like the ability to save as a PDF 36) The letting you see changes in format when deciding what to change to. (How, it looks before changing to it, preview). 37) I have over 60,000 rows of data in one of my workbooks, so I can use it in, 2007. I like the many filters options. 38) How some items that I don't use regularly are easily displayed on one of the ribbons.I love the REMOVE Duplicates. 39) There isn't anything that I like better, other than that it integrates better with the other Office 2007 products. 40) It doesn't seem to have 1 major jump out point-that is from someone who has only had limited use of the product. 41) The ribbon is more visible and easier to use than many of the drop down menus of 2003 which I used in the past. 42) I like more rows (1 million) and I like the auto-filtering capabilities which are more flexable than in 2003 43) What do you like most about Excel 2007? (not necessarily the same question as #3) Extra Rows and Columns 44) (1) More choices for formating. (2)The layout really works well with a wide screen(I have a 22" screen) 45) What do you like most about Excel 2007? (not necessarily the same question as #3) Unlimited sheet size 46) Things I like: Working with tables, sorting, filtering, formatting, XML file size, IFERROR() function 47) Filter and sorting is awesome now. As many levels of sort/filter as you want (not just 3 as before) 48) There are more options and I can preview changes to the, document as I move my mouse over objects 49) Creating Pivot tables is a little friendlier, table formatting, new conditional formatting icons. 50) That you don't have to wait for the menus to drop down to pick options, they're mostly all there 51) some issues that occurred in 2003 have now been sorted, conditional formatting is easier to use 52) What do you like most about Excel 2007? (not necessarily the same question as #3) Live preview 53) What do you like most about Excel 2007? I think this will be easier for novices in the long run. 62) "Having Million columns and billion rows, filtering by color and other", filter options 63) Have not explored all the functionality, but so far it is slower, than the okd version 64) Have not worked with it enough to be able to answer this one (pls see #2 above again) 65) I like the ribbon and where items are located.
