Position: Senior Landscaper Gardener/Trainer Salary: £25,000 - £30,500 p.a., depending on experience Responsible to: Programme Manager Start date: 2nd January 2013 Contract: Permanent (6 month probation period) Location: South London Closing date for applications: Friday 23rd November at 9AM Streetscape provides apprenticeships in landscape gardening to young people who are long-term unemployed, enabling them to build the skills, experience and attributes they need to fulfil their dreams and move into and retain work: growing lives, transforming landscapes. In so doing we design, landscape and maintain gardens across South London for clients looking for that ‘wow factor’: the best possible use of shape and form. We are looking for an experienced landscape gardener with exceptional interpersonal skills to join an innovative and expanding social enterprise and: Lead and provide high-calibre on-the-job training to our second team of apprentices Provide an unrivalled hard and soft landscape gardening service to our clients. Your responsibilities: Success to us means: Training our apprentices – all young people who were long-term unemployed – to the highest possible standards such that they gain and retain employment following their year-long Streetscape apprenticeships (L2 Diploma in Horticulture). Excellent client feedback, recommendations and repeat business. To help achieve this, your key responsibilities would be: • Managing, supervising and providing onsite training to our second team of apprentices, in line with the apprenticeship syllabus requirements. We work in teams of three; one landscaper to two apprentices. • Leading the hard and soft landscape projects to be undertaken by our second team, with a commitment to the highest standards of work, training and customer service. Design consultation with Head Landscaper where appropriate; regular reporting to the Programme Manager on progress. • Onsite Health & Safety and First Aid. Training is provided. • To carry out client visits, following which you will be expected to prepare designs (design skills are desirable) and specifications (essential). You would then hand these to the Programme Manager and Sales Director to quote from. • With the Head Landscaper and Programme Manager, involvement in the planning and delivery of apprenticeship theory sessions (these are held for our apprentices every Monday AM) and intensive practical training sessions (held every other Monday PM where required) • With the Programme Manager, conducting performance reviews and appraisals with apprentices, and ultimately playing a key part in their transition to future employment. • With the Head Landscaper and Programme Manager, contributing to the ongoing development of Streetscape, including: assisting with the establishment and training of future teams of apprentices; and striving to continually improve the quality of Streetscape’s apprenticeship and service offering. We are looking for: • A strong and unyielding commitment to the aims and ethos of Streetscape. In particular a steadfast enthusiasm for the process of coaching and training our apprentices – all young people previously long-term unemployed, often young people from difficult backgrounds. • Significant experience of leading both hard and soft landscaping projects to the highest standards in residential and other settings. We are looking for particular expertise in hard landscaping; garden maintenance experience is also desirable. • A willingness to take on new projects and responsibilities, to learn as well as teach, to be flexible and to adapt to new working methods as necessary. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • A keen desire to please our clients in the work you do, through strong work ethic, a keen eye to detail and providing excellent customer service. • Design skills are desirable, but not essential. • A full UK driving licence and permission to work in the UK (both essential).
