With the extensive redevelopment of Margaret Court Arena (MCA) in
2010 as part of the $700 million Melbourne Park Masterplan, the architects
were looking to make a bold statement with the design and colour of the
innovative retracting roof, transforming the court into a multi-use stadium
capable of hosting a wide range of sporting and entertainment events, while
also increasing its capacity from 6,000 to 7,500.
Based on the project design and unique performance requirements,
Lysaght’s technical experts were able to recommend one of the preapproved range of custom COLORBOND® steel colours – Pearlescent
Copper Penny™ - which was then rollformed and supplied in the LYSAGHT
KLIP-LOK® profile.
LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK® offers long spans and excellent uplift performance and
features bold ribs and flat pans with micro-cross fluting for superior strength,
making it perfect for low pitched roofs.
Designed as a unique system, the MCA roof has only two downturned
operable trusses that span the width of the structure, supporting the bulk of
the operable roof.
The enhanced versatility and inherent strength of LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK® fits in
perfectly with the MCA’s state-of-the-art retractable roof, which is the fastest
of its kind in the world, opening or closing in just five minutes.​
