Exploring
the Future
STUDIO by bartco is a product
line that we developed to
explore new and unprecedented
approaches toward luminaire
design. This product line examines
the fluorescent strip (obviously a
product dear to us) and reimagines
the timeless elegance of this
iconic luminaire as an expressive
design instrument located within
contemporary interior space.
Beyond being a specific group
of products, we see STUDIO as
a platform for ongoing exploration,
discovery and ingenuity. We have
many other product curiosities
that we plan to pursue and add to
the collection on a regular basis.
Our goal is to expand creative
opportunity for you, the designer.
Consider this initial launch as just
the beginning.

FILL-1: multiple fixture continuous run configuration (28W+28W)
Engaging
Space
Most architectural luminaires
today use known methods of
installation. This works fine in most
cases but lacks more assertive
design opportunities. By contrast,
STUDIO by bartco explores a
multitude of expressive and playful
ways in which a fixture attaches
to interior surfaces, moves through
space, crawls across a wall or
disappears into a corner. This bold
approach to form, pattern and
physical gesture is complimented
by the refined elegance found in
its simple detailing. Depending
upon your design application, the
luminaires can possess a variety
of configurations that range
widely from quiet calmness to the
exuberance of a dancing child.

Breaking
Rules
STUDIO by bartco frees itself from
common product categories
that we’re all familiar with. STUDIO
crosses stylistic boundaries, is
visually interesting and has more
personality than the average light
fixture. STUDIO is a place to play
with new design ideas, experiment
with technologies and expand
material relationships. Being bold
and launching something new
takes courage. We’re cool with that.
We like to lead, and expect that
our explorations will generate new
ideas by others.

Elegant &
STUDIO by bartco evolved through
our long-standing history of
manufacturing well-built and finely
crafted lighting products, most
notably the fluorescent strip.
We see STUDIO as a redefinition
of the fluorescent strip into bold
new and expanded domains
that traverse common boundaries
between decorative and
architectural fixture typologies.
We think you will agree that we’ve
achieved our goal. The products in
the STUDIO line are simultaneously
practical tools that effectively light
space as well as graceful partners
with interior design.

Materiality
The classic white finish of the
traditional strip luminaire
is beautiful and elegant in its
simplicity. We’ve retained this
through using satin Fluoroscape
White paint as the base finish
within STUDIO by bartco.
However, it’s just the starting
point. Custom powder coat
finishes as well as alternate
metals such as polished stainless
steel and polished brass are
also available. Your curiosity
is the only limit. If you have
specific ideas, just contact us.

See something that you like
but it’s not quite the right fit for
your project? No problem. The
body of products within STUDIO
by bartco is first and foremost
intended to inspire new potential
in your designs. We have created
dozens of standard product
configurations for your choosing.
We’re also happy to work with
you to develop modifications
to existing products, add
accessories or conceive of new
designs that cater to your needs.

DESIGNER’S
GUIDE
22 DESIGNER’S GUIDE: ZAG
BARTCO
ZAG
ZAG is conceived as a modular fixture that traverses open
space creating dramatic linear patterns between walls, floor
or ceiling surfaces. The many variables affiliated with scale,
pattern, finish and lamping yield unprecedented creative
versatility that allow the fixture to be used
in a broad range of project types and stylistic spaces.
Available with T5 linear fluorescent sources in 1’, 2’, 3’ and
4’ nominal lamp lengths, it can be used as a single element
or assembled in two or three-run multiple configurations.
These combinations can be mounted to a single surface or
between perpendicular or parallel surfaces and may include
any combination of available lengths, up to a maximum
of three. To further adapt the luminaire to your design

ZAG VARIABLES
1 Single or Multiples
Use as a single fixture or configured in continuous runs
(up to 3 maximum) using any length combinations.
2 Continuous Run Configurations
The square plan of the 45° mitered ends allow for
continuous run assembly in 90° rotational increments.

3
Lengths
Available with T5 linear fluorescent sources in 1’, 2’, 3’
and 4’ nominal lamp lengths in both standard and high
output. (1’ length standard output only)
preferences, the lamp position may be specified on one of
two opposing surfaces. This is identified as being on the
“inside” (shortest face) or “outside” (longest face).
The housing is made of 20 gage steel, resulting in a robust
and rigid fixture. The cross section is proportioned so that
the 45° mitered ends yield a square footprint. This allows
end-to-end continuous tandem mounting in 90° rotational
increments. Factory supplied reinforcement brackets
are used at each fixture joint and mount within the housing
to strengthen the joint and align mounting holes between
luminaires.
A flush mount factory supplied feed box and mounting
plate assembly is supplied with each fixture to ensure a
visually pleasant and structurally secure fit is achieved
to the finished surface. Single mounting plates are also
supplied for the opposite end when continuous run sections
are configured.
The standard finish is a post-production applied

Satin white powder coat finish is standard.
Custom paint colors and polished metals are available.

26 DESIGNER’S GUIDE: FREEFORM
BARTCO
FREEFORM
FREEFORM is an artistic exploration in fixture design
that physically separates the fluorescent lamp from its
typical parallel orientation on top of the housing. This
unprecedented design allows for a nearly infinite number
of pattern combinations that involve the fixture housing,
differing lamp lengths and lamp angles. Fixtures can
be used as single elements or assembled in multiples
to create large scale over lapping luminous compositions
that move across a single wall or ceiling surface.
Each fixture includes one ballast housing with one or
two satellite sockets, which is determined by the number
of lamps specified (two lamps maximum per fixture).
T5 linear fluorescent sources are available in 2’, 3’ and 4’
nominal lengths. Fixtures with multiple lamps must use
lamps of the same wattage in order to be powered from
a single ballast. Standard socket positions can be
specified in 45° increments, further allowing a broad
range of pattern options.
The housing is made of 20 gage steel with a postproduction powder coat paint finish. The standard finish
is Fluoroscape White with a satin sheen. Custom paint
colors are available as well as polished stainless steel
and polished brass as optional materials.
A specification grade rapid start 120V-277V ballast is
standard. Dimming ballast options are available for all
lengths.

30 DESIGNER’S GUIDE: FILL
BARTCO
FILL
FILL is designed for inconspicuous mounting in corner
conditions between perpendicular walls or wall and ceiling
surfaces. This cameleon like fixture easily blends into its
surrounding and can be oriented horizontally or vertically.
It is available in multiple cross section profiles with T5
linear fluorescent sources in 2’, 3’, 4’ and 5’ nominal lamp
lengths. It can be used as a single fixture or assembled
in multiple configurations for continuous runs and in
any length combinations. A special factory supplied
corner bracket provides secure fit to adjoining surfaces.
Knockouts are located on the back surface and accept
standard electrical fittings.
The housing is made of 20 gage steel with a postproduction powder coat paint finish. The standard finish
is Fluoroscape White with a satin sheen. Custom paint
colors are available as well as polished stainless steel and
polished brass as optional materials.
A specification grade rapid start 120V-277V ballast is
standard. Dimming ballast options are available for select
lamps. Emergency battery backup ballasts are available
