Howdy Raiders,
I hope that each of you have enjoyed your summer! The WEHS administrative team has been working to
prepare for the upcoming school year and can’t wait to have you back on campus. We will have a new campus
administrator on campus, but not a new Raider. Mrs. Angela Arp has been name as an assistant principal. She is taking
the place of Mr. Keith Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatrick was name the WISD Truancy Officer/Assistant Principal at Achieve

staff members joining the Raider Nation this fall. We look forward to you getting to know them and their families. I will

As you prepare for school, it is important that you review the WISD Student Code of Code, WISD Student Handbook,
and WEHS Supplemental Handbook. These resources contain important information that will help each student have a
successful school year. Make sure you review the WISD Dress Code. The following items are clearly a point of emphasis:




Solid color polo or oxford dress shirt. All shirts must be tucked into pants.
No jeans or denim. No stretch pants. No yoga pants. No jeggings.
Belts must be worn with pants at the natural waist.
Solid color camisoles worn under or over a polo.
On the WEHS campus, we require all students to wear a student ID. It is important for safety and security purposes
that all students are wearing an ID and produce their ID each day. Students are also required to wear and produce their
student ID at all WEHS athletic contests. If a student loses their ID or if it is defaced/destroyed, they will be required to
purchase a new student ID in the Media Center for $3.00.
We are dedicated to creating a safe school for each student. When a student feels safe they can perform at a high
level. This allows a student to develop the academic skills to pursue their goals. If your student feels uncomfortable, it is
vital they speak to an administrator, SRO, or school counselor.
Students will be able purchase an athletic pass for all WEHS Athletic events that will be added to their ID for the
entire school year. The cost for this pass is $10.00. This pass will not cover varsity football games. If a student loses
their ID they will need to purchase a new ID. Go to office 108 to purchase your pass.
Seniors and Juniors in good academic standing, good attendance standing (including tardies), and with no major
behavioral issues will be allowed to have off campus lunch. In order to have off campus lunch a student must have
completed the off campus lunch form with a parent signature. These forms picked up and returned to office 108 or 805
Students that fail to complete the necessary forms or fall out of standing may have this privilege revoked. If a senior or
juniorr in good standing takes other students off campus, which do not meet the off campus requirements, that student
may have their privilege removed.
Fridays are Raider Spirit Days. Students and staff may wear jeans and a WEHS Spirit Shirt. Only WEHS spirit shirts
can be worn. Unlike in previous years, where a simple blue, white, or gray shirt would be acceptable, this year they
will not be allowed. Only WEHS Spirit shirts will be allowed on spirit days. No holes, rips, or tears in jeans. Thursday is
Think College Thursday. Students may wear a college t-shirt and standardized dress below the waist.

On Wednesday’s, WEHS will celebrate Graduation Wednesday’s. Each Wednesday students that purchase a Class of
your graduation year shirt may wear that shirt with standard dress below the waist. The t-shirt must be visible and not
covered up by a sweater or another shirt.
*** Each day a t-shirt is worn it must not be covered by another shirt.***
If you would like to purchase a “Class of 20__ __” shirt for $6.00 go to http://sandlotapparel.com to order. This
shirt can be worn on WEHS Spirit Days & Graduation Wednesday. If you purchased one last year, you can wear that shirt.
If you need to purchase a new shirt go to the website listed above. If you are a member of the Class of 2020, buy your
shirt and show your Raider and Class of 2020 Pride!! Any day that you are allowed to wear a t-shirt it must be visible
and not covered by a sweater or another shirt.
One of the most important things that I can do as the campus principal is to communicate with parents and
students. To do this, I use four important tools. Each week during the school year I send out a weekly principal’s
message through Skyward. From time to time, I will send out urgent messages by phone. I also use Twitter. I can be
followed at MikeWilliams@WEHS_Raiders. I also post school updates and information on Facebook at Raider Nation
Principal. The WEHS Journalism Department has an award winning online newspaper, WEHS BluePrint. Where you can
read the stories written by students and keep up with WEHS news and events. Follow WEHS blueprint at
www.blueprint.com . I would encourage you and your student to follow WEHS to get the most updated news and
information.
Our “staffulty” is committed to building the relational capacity that allows relationships to grow, which I believe,
build student success. The relationships students create in high school lead to lifelong friendships. We hope that each
student will cherish their high school experience at Wylie East High School and are a lifelong member of Raider Nation!
I will be having back surgery on July 21st and might not back it back from my recovery until the first or second week
of the school year. If I’m not back on the first day remember that I’m wishing each of you a great start of the school year.
And remember It is a great day to be alive and a great day to be a Raider!
