Fractal Spinning with Lynda DeLallo
Hostess: Elyse Meltz, Treats: Meg Welch, Kate Simons-Schrver
If you’ve never tried fractal spinning or don’t even know what it is, this is the workshop
for you! We will spin a multi-colored roving in different ways to create various color
effects in your yarn. Lynda has dyed Corriedale Cross top in six random colors so you
can clearly see how fractal spinning works. You will receive a couple of ounces of top to
spin. This top would also work for chain plying, aka Navajo plying.
The guild is underwriting the materials cost. If you didn’t sign up at the January
meeting and would like to attend the class, please let Jill Robinson know by February 6
so she can tell Lynda the number of kits to prepare.
If you are participating in this workshop please bring the following:





working spinning wheel
3-4 bobbins (3 if doing 2 ply, 4 if doing 3 ply)
lazy kate (or a shoe box fitted with dowels or knitting needles to hold 2-3 bobbins
- see above)
niddy noddy if you think you will finish and want to skein off (some like to let their
yarn rest)
notebook and pen if you wish to take notes
JANUARY MEETING
Attendance
A full house! With approximately 40 members at the meeting, we had to keep moving
out the chairs in our spinning circle as people kept showing up.
Treasurer's Report $7569.31 balance
Community Outreach
Christina Tartaro read a note from Vera House thanking us for our donation of hats,
scarves, mittens, etc. She will put the card in the guild library notebook.
Christina is organizing “Regan’s Rally”. Regan was tragically killed in an accident
recently. Christina will collect children’s items for donation to the firehouse of Regan’s
father for the firemen to give out to children after fires.
Linda Miller brought yarn from the Wool Center. Members can sign out skeins of yarn
to make items for sale at the Wool Center during the NYS Fair. The proceeds support
building the new center.
Missing Book
At the September meeting Lorraine Savidge's book "Dyeing Your Own Self Striping
Yarn" disappeared. We are having difficulty locating a copy to replace hers. Angela
Mann will post the title on our guild Facebook page to see if anyone knows where to
purchase this book. Jill Robinson will contact the author and publisher if we can find out
who they are.
Meeting Hostess
We need hostesses for April, May and June, see the signup sheet.
Programs
February’s program will be Fractal Spinning. The guild voted to pay an instructor fee to
Lynda DeLallo and pay the materials fee of $10 per person.
For the March Auction members were reminded to donate at least two items.
Linda Bishop-Surbeck queried the guild as to what Jill Moreno workshops we would like
next year. Members were interested in six hour classes on both Saturday and Sunday.
Linda will investigate Jill’s workshops to present options for guild members to decide on.
Fiber Frolic
There will be thirteen vendors plus one space for fiber demonstrations at the frolic. Jill
is borrowing the idea of having a drawing for a Guild Fiber Basket from the Shepherd’s
Wool Market in Rush. To enter, visitors would fill out a form about how they heard
about the frolic along with their email address. We need someone to put together the
basket.
A signup sheet for frolic volunteers was made available. Jill mentioned multiple festivals
have seen their foot traffic decline over the last couple of years.
Clothing Order
Contact Jill if you are interested. We need a minimum of 12 items to place an order.
Bus Trip 2017
Suggestions for a Fall bus trip were the Fiber Festival of New England on Saturday
November 4th and the Southern Adirondacks Fiber Festival on Sunday September 24th.
The guild will vote at the February meeting on whether to do a bus trip and if so, the
destination.
