The main character Tracy is tough and usually in the quiet room for misbehaving. She lives in a children’s home but wishes for a real family. Reagan Smith, 11 Airth Childminding Group ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ – J.K. Rowling Harry thinks he is a normal boy but it turns out his parents were killed by a dark wizard and Harry is invited to learn at Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry! Joelle Gordon, 11 Airth Childminding Group ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel’ – Jeff Kinney This book is about a boy called Greg Heffley and he is a normal middle school boy. He has a diary that his mum bought for him and he writes down everything that happens every day. Tegan Clark, 11 St Margaret’s Primary School ‘Kitten Kaboodle’ – Anna Wilson In this book there is a girl called Bertie Fletcher and her friend Jazz. Unfortunately Bertie’s mum died a few years ago so she only has her dad to live with. Bertie has got really lonely over the past years (as her dad has been busy in his office) and she only want’s one thing a pet but her dad won’t let her because he doesn’t believe that she will look after it and he will not have time for it. So immediately Bertie goes upstairs and calls her friend Jazz and together they secretly set up a pet sitting business. That Is how they meet Kaboodle – the kitten across the road whose tongue is sharper than his claws. This is a funny and heartwarming book that is slightly cat-astrophic. Chloe Milne, 11 St Margaret’s Primary School ‘Sleepovers’ – Jacqueline Wilson Sleepovers is a heart warming and touching book about a little girl Daisy. Daisy wants to have sleepover but she would have to let her friends Amy, Bella, Chloe and Emily meet her disabled sister Lilly. They are the Alphabet Girls. Everyone else is having a sleepover. What will Daisy do? I would recommend this book to others because it’s highly entertaining, girls from 10 and up will enjoy this book. She is evil and wicked. On the way through the forest the enormous crocodile meets different animals who try to stop him from eating the children. Then an elephant threw the bad croc into the sun. At the top of the tree a different land comes every week. My favourite land was the land of secrets. My least favourite land was the land of punishment and the land of Dame Snap. The chapters all have funny names and the book is very funny. Rover is a very clever dog. Aimee Wojcik, 8 Carronshore Primary School ‘Gran’s Gang go to Spain’ – Adrian Townsend Gran’s Gang go to Spain is one of my favourite books because it is funny and unpredictable. You never know what is coming next. The characters are all funny, especially Ethel who tries to play basketball with young boys. My favourite scene is Ethel’s double buggy race. She is pushing a buggy with Basil in it and the grans get so excited they fall through a garage roof. Dione Turpin, 11 Bankier Primary School, 11 ‘Sleepovers’ – Jacqueline Wilson All of Daisy’s friends in the Alphabet Club Amy, Bella, Chloe and Emily have sleepovers for their birthdays. Daisy has a dilemma. She’d love to have a sleepover but all her friends would have to meet Daisy’s sister. He becomes the leader and seeks to avenge his father while finding love on the way. They are now the leaders of Sherwood, stealing from the rich and helping the poor. Trouble soon stirs up when the Sheriff finds out what he is doing. A thrilling tale of action and adventure, love, loss, life and death. A book I’d recommend to anyone. Mac Gavigon, 9 Kinnaird Primary School, 9 ‘Secret Seven’ – Enid Blyton I enjoyed this book because it had a good story to it. It had good guys and bad guys. My favourite character is Peter, leader of the Secret Seven. He was very keen to make sure no one knew what they were doing together. He was very friendly as well, it all ended well but you will have to read to find out what happens. Abby Dickson, 11 Kinnaird Primary School ‘My Story War Nurse’ – Sue Reid War Nurse is the fictional diary of Kitty Langley. From 1939-40 she was a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) who worked in a military war hospital in England. I liked this book because it is very interesting and it makes Kitty’s experience feel so real and it’s easy to understand. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone learning about World War 2. Sarah Arnott, 11 Kinnaird Primary School ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ – Roald Dahl My favourite book is Jessica the Jazz fairy because it is magical. It has got lots of fairies in it and my favourite character is Jessica. He meets a mouse and also he meets a butter fly and my favourite character in the butterfly. Lauren Monaghan, 11 St. Margaret’s Primary School ‘Oops, I lost my best friends’ – Indie Kidd In this book there is a girl called Indie and her step bother Dylan. And when Indie finds out that Dylan has no friends, it’s time for Indie to take action and sort it out. Indie tries to find Dylan some friends but while she was doing that her two bestest friends Soph and Fee felt neglected by indie and don’t want to be her friend anymore but Indie doesn’t give up and keeps trying her best to find Dylan some friends. Indie had success in doing so and Divided city is a dark book. It’s all about two boys called Graham and Joe. They both love football but support different teams. But! When an asylum seeker called Kyoul gets stabbed Grahams life gets turned around and to add to that Graham’s Grandad wants him to join the orange walk… James Brown, 10 Kinnaird Primary School ‘A Hundred Mile An Hour Dog’ – Jeremy Strong Riona Alison Rebecca Clifford, 10 Kinnaird Primary School ‘Divided City’ – Theresa Breslin This is Kyoul he got stabbed in the street for no reason. I was shocked when I came to this part, all I wanted to do was read more to see what actually happened. Divided City is a great book but is probably not for people that hate blood!! You should buy it, It’s sooooo exciting. Thank you for reading my book review. Jessica Scott, 6 Stenhousemuir Primary School ‘Jessica the Jazz Fairy’ – Daisy Meadows managed to get Dlyan some and eventually Indie made up with her friends. I would recommend this book to readers because it tickles your heart as the author has written the book you are a part of it Ross Livingston, 11 St. Margaret’s Primary School ‘The Hobbit’ – J. R. R. Tolkien My favourite book is The Hobbit because it is an enchanting tale of a hobbit called Bilbo Baggins who lives in the shire, until one day a great and powerful wizard called Gandalf who comes with a gang of 13 Dwarves. Soon the Dwarves with Bilbo embark on an epic journey to recover the Dwarvish treasure in the halls of the lonely mountain. Unfortunately, Smog, a fearsome dragon is guarding it. On the journey they are endangered by: Trolls, Goblins, Wargs, Giant Spiders and of course Smog. They are assisted by: Elves, Were-bears and humans. I would recommend it to the age group of 10+ due to the extremely difficult vocabulary capacity. It’s full of adventure, mystery, happiness and suspense. I would give 10 out of 10! It’s a great read. I think it is so funny and a lot of people will like it. They try to train Streaker but does it work? Streaker is a mad dog. She sees a dog called mouse who is trevor’s friend’s dog. It is well behaved. Oh yeh Trevor is Streaker’s owner and he’ll get £30 pounds if he trains Streaker. But it goes… Find out for yourself. Smith Charlotte, 6 St. Margaret’s Primary School ‘Misty’s Story’ – Jane Clark Jakub Wiatrowski, 6 Kinneil Primary School ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ Ollie Stephenson, 10 Kinnaird Primary School ‘The World of Norm’ – Jonathan Meres to the 2013 edition of our Good Read Guide. This year’s entries have been great and we have really enjoyed looking at them all. The guide features some old favourites by authors such as Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson and Enid Blyton as well as some more recent creations in Moshi Monsters, Horrid Henry and Sponge Bob Squarepants.
