⦿Allows teachers to reflect on instructional
practices
SLO Goal Setting Process
Review data and identify areas of student need
⦿ Develop a goal based on data
⦿ Review goal with the building principal
⦿
SLO Goal Setting Process
⦿Collect evidence toward the goal during
the year
⦿Mid year: Review the goal and progress
towards the goal
⦿End of year: Share final evidence of SLO
progress with administrator
SLO Process
Step 1:
Determine
needs
Step 2:
Create specific
learning goals
based on preassessment
Step 3:
Create and
implement
teaching and
learning
strategies
Step 4:
Monitor
student
progress
through
ongoing
formative
assessment
Step 5:
Determine
whether
students
achieved the
goals
Samples of SLOs
1st Grade
⦿ In the 2014-15 school year 100% of the students
will show growth in reading fluency and
comprehension as measured by the
Developmental Reading Assessment.
• Students scoring in the intervention range (level 2 or below in
Sept.) will progress at least 5 levels by the end of the year
1st grade SLO example
⦿ Students scoring
in our benchmark range (3-8 in
September) will progress to our district benchmark
level of 18.
⦿ Students scoring in our Advanced range (10-24 in Sept.)
will progress by 3 levels.
4th Grade SLO Example

Professional Practice Goal
PPG
⦿ Professional Practice
Goal
⦿ Aligns
with your SLO
⦿ Ask the following questions:
• What professional development will help me accomplish my
SLO?
• How will achieving my professional growth goal improve
student learning and engagement?
• How has my self reflection and assessment informed this
goal?
• How might I team with colleagues to achieve my goal?
PPG Example
⦿
⦿
Aligned with 1st grade reading DRA goal
PPG: In the 2014-15 school year, I will increase my skills by
incorporating a balanced instructional literacy model. I will
focus on creating targeted guided reading groups based on
DRA assessments. I will attend a building professional
development on 8 essential instructional reading strategies.
The item analysis from the Trimester CBAs will be utilized to
develop universal reading mini lessons and targeted small
group instruction. By the end of the year, I will have a
documentation log including artifacts of differentiated lesson
plans for guided reading and RtI groups.
PPG Example
4th Grade Writing
⦿ Aligned with 4th Grade SLO writing
Goal
⦿ PPG: In the 2014-15 school year, I will increase
my skills by incorporating a Writer’s Workshop
instructional model. I will focus on the writing
process, emphasize the learning targets and use
authentic writing examples. By the end of the
year, I will develop artifacts in the
documentation log of my own writing and
examples I have modeled for students.
