GREERTON SWIMMING CLUB NEWSLETTER one Greerton Swimming Club Newsletter August 2016 GREERTON SWIMMING CLUB AGM / PRIZEGIVING 2016 Central Swimming Short Course And the boys followed up with silver in Champs – Rotorua 12th – 14th August, the same event. 2016 A team of 14 swimmers represented Greerton two weekends ago. This meet was a target meet for our 13and over age group swimmers and was a great opportunity to see where our swimmers were at in the winter season. Swimmer of the meet was Kate Kuka who won two silver medals and made finals for the 13 year old girls 50 and 100m breaststroke events. The Greerton girls relay team (13-15 years 4 x 50m Freestyle) won bronze. August News Contacts Upcoming Meets Issue Date Girls Relay Team - Kim, Ella, Marijke and Jasmine. Boys Relay team - Jacob, Lochy, William and Connor. GSC swimmers posted some great individual times on/about PB or better, won medals and or made finals. It was a good meet to gauge where swimmers are at in their lead up to NZ Short Course Championships that are in October. IN THIS ISSUE Congratulations to our parent volunteers - Deb Jager for passing her Time Keepers exam during the meet and to Andre Rochat and Ed Baggaley who passed their IOT exams at the meet as well. If you are interested in sitting your time keepers or IOT (Inspector of Turns) exams please let Pauline Happe or Paula Farrell know so we can organize this. Fast and Frosty Meet – Rotorua Well done to all our swimmers that competed at the Rotorua Meet on 21st August. It was nice to see our next generation of swimmers racing. Swimmers of the meet were Isaac Williams and Ruby Walford. Highlights of the meet: Isaac Williams had 2 x 1sts, 1 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd Lewis Lines-Smith PBed 4 out of 5 swims GSC had 2 8 year olds compete. Well done to Grace Richardson and Yeva Parshikova on your races. Biggest PB’s of the meet: Thomas Richardson 22 second PB in 200m Free (3:15.11) Ruby Walford 13 second PB in 100 Free (1:25.21) Connor Delaney 10 second PB in 200m Breast (3:29.35) Kyla Bidois 9 second PB in 200 Breast (3:38.04) GREERTON SWIMMING CLUB NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2016 World Surf Life Saving Champs – Rescue 16, Netherlands We wish Libby Bradley all the best with her upcoming trip to the Netherlands to compete at the World Junior Surf Life Saving Champs. Libby is part of the youth team (Under 18) - Junior Black Fins. Libby recently attended a Junior Black Fins camp where the team had to complete the entire worlds programme in 2 days. This meant Libby raced all of her 7 pool races in 2 hours. They also completed the beach programme, which was held at Mairangi Bay, in a nippy 16 degrees water temp – with no wetsuit! Can all parents please check on their child’s my page that the emergency details have been completed for your child’s profile. It is also a great time to ensure that your cell and email addresses are current as well. You can now add your child’s school too. A reminder to all of our Timekeepers and IOT’s. If you volunteer to timekeep or IOT at a meet please ensure you wear your white GSC polo shirt. We are proud of our Club and our volunteers.
