ProductOverview
ThisCO2Meter,Inc.monitorloggerisdesignedtomeasurecarbondioxide(CO2)andoxygen(O2),
logdataandcontrolconcentrationlevels.Itstoresupto15,000collecteddatapointstoitsinternal
memorytoberetrievedatalatertimeforanalysis.WhencombinedwithourGasLab®software,
youcanalsoseereal‐timedataonyourcomputer’sscreen.Itsbuilt‐in1,000hourssamplingmicro‐
pumpensuresreliableoperationforpersistentreadingsbasedonuser‐selectedtimeintervals.With
variousoutputs,arelayandweather‐proofconnectors,thismeteriscertainlyaheavyhitteramong
gassensingdevices.
Scientificdevicessuchasthismonitorloggerrequiretheusertohaveanintimateknowledgeofthe
meter,itsoperation,therequiredsoftware,andthemeterspecificationspriortouse.CO2Meter,Inc.

TheoryofOperation
TheCO2sensorinsidethismeterusesNDIR(non‐dispersiveinfrared)technologytosense,asa
functionoftransmittedlight,theconcentrationofCO2intheair.Tomeasureoxygen,thismeterhas
anextremelyaccurateZirconiaO2sensor.Thismeterhasbeenfactorycalibratedtooperatewithin
thespecifiedrangeandprecision.

Calibration
TheCO2sensor,inIAQapplicationsonly,usesanalgorithmcalledAutomaticBackground
Calibration(ABC)toensuremaximumaccuracybycontinuouslyadjustingthezero‐point.
TheABCalgorithmallowstheCO2sensortodynamicallyshiftitsCO2readingbyaconstant.It
worksviastoringthelowestCO2sampletakenovertheABCPeriodandassumingthatthislow
valueisequaltoaknownvalue(thetargetvalue).ItthenadjuststheoutputoftheCO2readingby
thedeltabetweenthesevalues.Thisalgorithmdoesnotaffectthelinearizationoftheoutputsignal.
Forexample,bydefaultABCisenabledwithanABCPeriodof180hours,atargetvalueof400ppm,
andamaximumdeltaof30ppm.Thisoperatesundertheprinciplethatambient,outdoorairisat
400ppm.
ThesensorwillkeeptrackofthelowestCO2readingrecordedoveraperiodof180hoursandthen
adjustthezeropoint,upto30ppmatatime,towardsthatvalue.
Toensuremaximumaccuracyitisrecommendedtoinstallthedeviceinanenvironmentthatwill
routinelyseethislowvalue.
Inaddition,thismetercanbeexposedtofreshairforafewminutesbetweenusestoverify
calibrationbymakingsurethereadingsarecloseto400ppm,orcanbemanuallycalibratedusing
theGasLab®softwareandtheproceduredescribedbelow.

CalibrationProcedure–CO2
Tocalibrateyourmeter,followthesesteps:

TurnONthepumponthemainscreen.
Exposethemetertoambientair(assumedtobeat400ppm)orconnectittoacalibration
gasbottle/cylinder(100%nitrogenorargon)withtheappropriatedemandregulator.
Wait25secondstocollectasample.Writedownthisvalueasthe“before”value.
Clickthe“Calibrate”buttonafterselectingyourcalibrationgas.
Wait25secondsagain.Thistime,themeterwilltakeasampleandusethisdatatoadjust
zerovalues.Thedisplayedmeasurementwillshowthenewcalibrationvalue(0or400ppm,
dependingonmethodused).
Disconnectthecalibrationgasandwait25seconds.Alldisplayeddatawillnowbebasedon
thenewcalibrationvalue.Repeatthisprocedureifthesensorisstilloperatingoutsideofits
specifiedrangeorifreadingsvarygreatly.

ToinstalltheappropriateUSBportdriverscompatiblewithyourmeter,followthesesteps:
1. Gotohttp://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htmanddownloadthepackageappropriate
fortheversionofWindowsinstalledinyourcomputer.
2. Movethefileyoudownloadedtoalocationyoucaneasilyaccess.Makesureyouhave
administratorprivileges.
3. Extractthefilebyrightclickingonitandselectingextracthere.
4. Gotoyourcomputer’sDeviceManagerintheControlPanel.
 ForWindows8,presstheWindowskeyand'x'atthesametimetobringupthestart
menuthenclickonDeviceManager.
 ForWindows7,openthestartmenuandtypeDeviceManagerinthesearchbar.
5. FindtheUnrecognizedUSBDeviceinthelist(itusually,butnotalways,hasayellow
triangleicon).
6. RightclicktheUnrecognizedUSBDeviceitemandselectUpdateDriverSoftware.
7. SelectBrowseMyComputerandpointtothefolderwhereyouextractedthedriverfilesto
(step#3).
Thiswillinstallthenecessarydriverstoyourcomputerandallowyoutouseyourmeterwith
GasLab™.Ifyouhavemultiplesensorsyoushouldonlyhavetoperformthisprocedureonce;the
operatingsystemwillautomaticallyfindthedriverforalltheothersensors.

materialsandworkmanshipwhenusedfortheirintendedpurposeandagreestorepairorreplace
(atourdiscretion)anypartorproductthatfailsundernormaluse.Totakeadvantageofthis
warranty,theproductmustbereturnedtoCO2Meter.comatyourexpense.If,afterexamination,we
determinetheproductisdefective,wewillrepairorreplaceitatnoadditionalcosttoyou.
Thiswarrantydoesnotcoveranyproductsthathavebeensubjectedtomisuse,neglect,accident,
modificationsorrepairsbyyouorbyathirdparty.NoemployeeorresellerofCO2Meter.com’s
productsmayalterthiswarrantyverballyorinwriting.

Allliabilitiesunderthisagreementshallbelimitedtotheactualcostoftheproductpaidto

damages,lostprofits,lossoftime,lostsalesorlossordamagetodata,injurytopersonorpersonal
propertyoranyotherindirectdamagesastheresultofuseofourproducts.
Returns
Iftheproductfailsundernormaluseduringthewarrantyperiod,aRMA(ReturnMaterial
Authorization)numbermustbeobtainedfromCO2Meter.com.Aftertheitemisreceived
CO2Meter.comwillrepairorreplacetheitematourdiscretion.

requestingaRMApleaseprovidereasonforreturnandoriginalordernumber.
Iftheproductfailsundernormaluseinthefirst10daysofownership,atourdiscretionwewill
