Factoring Monomials
De…nition
The Greatest Common Factor (GCF):
The greatest common factor of a list of integers is the largest common
factor of those integers.
Fact
Finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF):
1. Find the prime factorization of each monomial.
2. List each common factor the least number of times it appears in any
one monomial.
3. Find the product of the factor found in the list to obtain the GCF.

Factor by Grouping
Fact
Factoring by Grouping:
1. Group the terms of the polynomial so that each group has a common
factor.
2. Factor out the common factor from each group.
3. Factor out the resulting common factor.
