This amendment is released for all interested parties. The following questions have been received by the
District:
1. The specifications call for Sherwin Williams Pro-Industrial DTM on metal surfaces, and the
Master Protek HB200 on fascia and wood substrates. During the site visit, it appears that the
fascia and the overhang is a wood surface, however the battens are metal covers over 1”x 2”
wood strips. First, I would like to confirm it was the intent of specifications to paint each of the
metal covered battens with the SW Pro-Industrial DTM? If not would an acceptable substitution
be to prime and paint the flashings, gutters, fascia, overhang and downspouts all with the SW
Pro-Industrial DTM since wood is covered in the recommended systems section of the cut sheet
included in the RFP. This substitution would create less prep for the different substrates which
would be an economic savings to the project yet yield a superior product.
Response: That is acceptable.
2. The specifications call to remove existing sealant at all roof and metal flashings. Please clarify
that the brown fascia paint, is not the same as the brown paint used on the metal flashings as it
appears to be, pursuant to the Dominion Environmental Lead Chip Survey report dated June 11,
2015. Upon inspection of the paint that has been applied to the sealants it shares the same
characteristics as the fascia paint. There are 2 distinct colors in the sampled areas, brown top coat
with a green primer or bottom coat. (Please see attached picture: caulking on flashing at lower
roof parapet)

Response: To be determined by Dominion. Regardless if lead is present or not this caulking is to
be removed and replaced as specified – If Dominion determines this to be lead containing then
abatement contractor to remove and replace caulking prior to contractor coating. If it is not
determined to be lead then response is “It is not the same as the brown paint used on the metal
flashing, contractor to include in scope as specified.”
3. Please confirm the outcrop entrance on the west side is included in the scope of work. (Please
see attached picture: west side gym entrance)
Response: The outcrop entrance on the west side is included in the scope of work.
4. Please confirm how to address the edge metal flashing that would normally overlap the fascia
metal on the outcrop entrance on the west side. (Please see attached picture above: edge metal
on west side gym entrance).
Response: The damaged metal rake (edge metal) is to be repaired by the Round Valley
Unified School District prior to the start of the project.
5. The condition of the plywood on the south exterior door is in very poor condition and would
typically require more than prime and prep for paint, as called out in the specifications. Please
confirm that is what you want us to do, or specify whether to replace the plywood insert with new

plywood or metal insert. (Please see attached picture: south exterior door plywood insert
condition)
Response: Replace with new plywood insert. Prep, prime and coat new insert as directed by
manufacturer recommendations.
6. Please clarify how you would like to handle damaged plywood overhang that is rotting and
falling off the building. I have attached a picture from one location, which is the southeast corner
of the gym building above the blue door in poor condition that is referenced herein. (Please see
attached picture: damaged plywood at fascia)

prior roof system, are to be excluded from the scope of work since they are no longer in use.
They have sealant on them and have been painted brown. (Please see attached picture:

11. The specifications call out to clean all vertical masonry cracks and apply LOCKTITE PLS10 into
the crack, dry tooling as necessary and then tuck point all mortar at brick masonry. We would
like to propose deleting the tuck pointing the mortar at the vertical cracking intersections and the
vertical mortar joint then apply LOCKTITE PLS10 throughout the entire vertical crack. Please
advise.
Response: Acceptable.
12. There are vertical mortar joints that abut the bump out and the exterior wall around the building
that have vertical cracking. Please confirm whether the large (3/4” – 1 ¼”) vertical mortar joint is
to be a tuckpoint joint or a LOCKTITE PLS10 joint.
Response: Tuckpoint.
13. Please confirm how bee holes in the masonry are to be handled they are not called out in the
project scope of work since there is a significant amount present on this building?
Response: Fill then blade bee holes with MasterSeal NP100 following all manufacturer
recommendations.
14. On the single story east entrance to the gym, there are several large shrubs on the east elevation
that are growing against the building. In addition, there are vines along the north elevation. Will
the District be trimming these prior to work commencing? If not, is it the responsibility of the
awarded contractor to trim/remove the vegetation?
Response: The Round Valley Unified School District will trim all vegetation in order to
accommodate the contractor to complete his work scope.
15. There are somewhere close to one dozen hornets and bees nests attached to the fascia and
building overhang where work will be performed. During our site inspection some of the nest
where active and hornets were gathered on the vertical walls. Will the District have the nests
removed prior to work commencing? If not is it the responsibility of the awarded contractor to
hire a bee keeper to remove the nest.
Response: The District will remove the nests prior to the start of the project.
16. On the north and west corner of the gym, is the abutted building flashing included in the scope of
work for sealants and paintings? (Please see attached picture: north elevation and roof line at
north exterior wall)

replaced as specified.
17. This abstract is for information purposes and to clarify how to move forward with pricing. We
have spoken with Tug Ferguson of the Smalley and Company and Dick Goff and this was the
response. “The BASF FL 749 block filler is intended for CMU to fill the pores prior to coating
with EL 750. It is not needed for other substrates unless they are as porous as CMU. Typically it
is not used on brick cladding, stucco or wood. BASF P100 primer is a chalky surface primer and
is used when the substrate has chalking, or when there is an adhesion issue. It is not required if
the EL750 coating has good adhesion to a clean, dry, properly prepared substrate. An adhesion
test may be performed to see if the primer is necessary”. For the purpose of the bid would you
like to see a line item the primer coat and then depending on an adhesion test it would add or
delete the line item? There could actually be 3 ways to submit this pricing see below.
1. block fill, prime and paint or
2. prime and paint or
3. 2coat 16mil dry HB750, all of which are dependent on adhesion test.
Response: Price two ways, Base bid and ADD Alt # 1.
1. Base Bid is one coat of EL 749 followed by one coat of EL 750 at 7-8 dry film or
12-14 wet film (Base Bid).
