Meadowlands Transit Guide

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
• Plan your trip there and back by consulting our
online Trip Planner or a schedule to determine
your departure time, location and fare.
TRAVEL TIPS
TRAVELING BY TRAIN
• Plan your return trip before you leave. Remember
your Bus Route Number, and the name and
location of your hotel.
FROM SECAUCUS JUNCTION:
• Prior to boarding the train, you must buy a train ticket from a
Ticket Vending Machine (TVM).
• Train departures are posted on departure boards and monitors
throughout the station.
• Purchase two one-way tickets for round-trip
transportation to speed your return. Tickets must
be purchased before boarding buses at New York
Port Authority Bus Terminal.
TRAVELING BY BUS
TO NEW YORK CITY, PORT AUTHORITY BUS TERMINAL (PABT):
• Where possible, pre-purchase tickets. Ticket Vending Machines
(TVMs) are located at Harmon Meadow (across from Embassy Suites
and Hyatt Place).
• Bus stops are indicated by a bus stop sign. When the bus
approaches, hail the bus by waving to the operator.
• When you get on the bus, tell the operator where you are going
and present your ticket or pay the fare. If you are boarding a bus and did not purchase a ticket,
exact change is appreciated.
• When the bus arrives at Port Authority Bus Terminal, gather your belongings and wait until the bus
comes to a complete stop. The arrival gate is located two levels above the street. Take escalators,
stairs or elevators to the main level to exit.
• Departure gates for your return trip are located in another area of the building.
RETURNING TO NEW JERSEY FROM PORT AUTHORITY BUS TERMINAL (PABT):
• For NJ TRANSIT buses, enter the terminal at the 8th Avenue entrance between 40th and 41st streets.
• You must purchase tickets before going to your departure gate for your trip to New Jersey.
NJ TRANSIT Ticket Windows at PABT are located on the main concourse and up a short flight of
steps in the middle of the terminal. You may also purchase tickets at NJ TRANSIT Ticket Vending
Machines (TVMs) located throughout the terminal.
• Identify the gate number you will depart from by checking the printed bus schedule or visiting the
Customer Service Office. Departure gates are on the 3rd floor. Use escalators or elevators and
follow signs for your gate number. Arrive early to queue at the door or gate for your bus.
• When the bus approaches your destination, alert the operator by pressing the call button above or
the signal tape between the windows. An audible bell and sign will light up at the front of the bus
indicating that a stop has been requested.
• Gather your belongings and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before getting up.
TRAVELING BY LIGHT RAIL
• When you arrive at a light rail station, purchase your ticket from a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM).
• Insert your ticket into a time-stamp machine located near the TVM. Your ticket will be valid until
the date and time shown.
• Keep your ticket with you as you travel to show valid proof-of-payment upon request.
• Tickets can be purchased at Ticket Vending
Machines (TVMs) and ticket windows located at
major stations and terminals. For your convenience,
TVMs are located at Harmon Meadow (across from
Embassy Suites and Hyatt Place).
•Arrive at your departure location 5-15 minutes prior
to the scheduled departure time. Please allow extra
travel time during the weekday rush hour.
• Try to travel light; space on-board buses and
trains is limited to accommodate carry-on
items in overhead racks or beneath your seat.
Baggage may not block aisleways, be placed
on empty seats, or cause inconvenience to other
passengers. Larger items such as strollers or
oversized luggage must be stored within the bus
undercarriage, if available, and require assistance
from the bus operator.
