School pupils give NHS event full marks
Keen fifth and sixth year pupils from 11 secondary schools from all over Ayrshire have
been taking the opportunity to find out more about careers in the NHS and the ambulance
service at a special Awareness Day at Ayr Hospital.
The event is one of several initiatives and programmes through which NHS Ayrshire &
Arran supports local schools.
In total 110 pupils attended the event, while a further 12 schools will send another 120
pupils to a similar event at Crosshouse Hospital on 29 November 2010.
The pupils took part in interactive information sessions and saw demonstrations of clinical
equipment.
Staff from a range of disciplines and departments were on hand to talk about their work,
including:
• Addiction services
• Catering
• Fresh Air-shire (help to stop smoking)

James Watt College, Kilmarnock College, Ayr College and the University of the West of
