The Country
Spain, officially the Kingdom of
Spain, is a sovereign state and a
member state of the European Union.
Spain is a democracy organized in the
form of a parliamentary government
under a constitutional monarchy. It is
a developed country with the 13th
largest economy in the world. Widely
known for Flamenco music and
dance, bull-fights, fantastic beaches
and lots of sunshine, Spain has to offer much more than that. It is - and has been for thousands of
years - one of the cultural centers of Europe. It has beautiful cities and towns, offering really old
monuments as well as futuristic architecture. Its various regions are all different one to each
other, geographically, climatically and even in personality. It is a fascinating country to know and
to know more about it.

The City
Bilbao is a municipality and city in Spain, the capital of the province
of Biscay in the autonomous community of the Basque Country. The
climate in Bilbao is milder than in most other parts of the peninsula,
rarely falling below freezing in winter, or rising above 35ºC in
summer. Bilbao is the poster city for successful urban renovation and
the spectacular Guggenheim Museum of Art has ushered in an era of
international tourism to the area. Bilbao’s extraordinary rebirth has
been widely recognized with important international prizes. Getxo is
an affluent community popular for its beaches, lively nightlife and
diverse cultural activities. It is well connected by bus to the
University of the Basque Country campus in Bilbao and to
downtown Bilbao by subway and bus.
Student Life
At the Bilbao campus, you will find the facilities, resources and services you need for your
studies and university life. This student-friendly environment will provide students with study
areas and the chance for hands-on learning while they also enjoy meeting points for more relaxed
moments, green areas…
The campus is located beside the river and is surrounded by avant-garde buildings designed by
the world’s most prestigious architects. Students feel right at home after a few days in Bilbao,
especially once they realize that the beaches are just 20 minutes away by underground.
