The Lady Lobo Girl’s Athletic Program
Our program goal is to offer an opportunity for participation to all 7th and 8th grade girls willing
to work hard and be committed and dedicated to enhancing our athletic program. Participation in our
program is a privilege, not a right. Therefore, our athletes will be held to a high standard. Since it is a
privilege, our coaching staff has the authority to suspend or revoke the privilege when the rules,
regulations or standards of our athletic program are not followed.
1 Participation in Athletics
A. Athletic packets are due no later than June 6, 2013 to avoid being placed into PE for the
year.
B. Every athlete is expected to suit out everyday.
C. Missing a workout for any reason will result in a make-up practice. This practice must be
completed before being allowed to participate in that week’s game. Any athlete who misses
more than 1 workout in a week will not play in the next game.
D. Athletes are responsible for getting to all academic classes and athletics on time everyday.
E. Jewelry and/or body piercings, glitter and/or body paint may not be worn in practices or
athletic competitions.
G. Athletes will wear only their assigned equipment and will be responsible for their issued
equipment on a daily basis.
H. Athletes will be responsible for purchasing their own workout clothes.
I. Any equipment that has been lost will result in payment for the lost equipment.
J. Only athletes that are passing according to UIL standards may participate in athletic
competitions.
K. Athletics is a year-long commitment. If for any reason you drop athletics in the 7th grade you
will not be permitted back into athletics in 8th grade.
Athletic Dress Code
A. PRACTICE GEAR: Gray shirt, navy shorts, kneepads, non-marking tennis shoes (laced and
tied). Athletes must wear only assigned apparel while being responsible for issued apparel each
day. All issued apparel will be turned in at the end of the season. The parent will reimburse the
cost for lost or damaged apparel.
B. JEWELRY: No jewelry is allowed during practices or during competitions. No piercings
are allowed during the year---this is due to the fact that they are advised to not remove the
jewelry for a certain amount of time. Wearing tape over earrings is unacceptable as well.
C. HAIR: Hair must be suitable for athletic competition. All hair must be pulled back into a
ponytail. Any short bangs must be held back using soft headbands. (No bobby pins, hair
clamps, barrettes, etc.)
2 Grades/Eligibility
A. In accordance with the University Interscholastic League, all athletes must be passing in
order to participate in and travel to games. Each coach will keep up with his player’s
academic progress as well. Players will be expected to show progress reports and report cards
to coaches.
B. Conduct grades lower than satisfactory, detentions or other behavioral problems will not be
tolerated. If these situations occur, they will be dealt with on an individual basis.
C. If an athlete is in ISS on the day of a competition, she will not be able to participate
in that particular game.
D. Any athlete placed in OSS is not allowed to participate in games or practices and may be
subject to removal from the sport and/or the athletic program.
E. Any athlete placed in DAEP is not allowed to participate in games or practices and may be
subject to removal from the sport and/or the athletic program.
L. If an athlete fails 2 consecutive 6 week grading periods, they will be dismissed from the athletic program. Try-outs and Selection of Teams
A. The head coach of each sport will determine the players on each team. There is no guarantee
everyone will make a team. The hardest thing in sports, at any level, is selecting a team.
Tryouts are usually Monday through Thursday. 10 athletes will be chosen for each team.
B. There will be an A, B and C team in Volleyball and Basketball.
C. The selection of a team will include, but is not limited to the following:
1. All athletes must jog, without stopping, a mile in 10 minutes or less.
2. Skill level
3. Knowledge of sport
4. Attitude
5. Coachable
3 Practice Times •
•
8th grade practice starts at 7:00AM and continues through 1st period. 7h grade practice begins 8th period and ends at 5:00 PM. Practices will begin and end on time. Please make necessary arrangements to ensure that your child is dropped off or picked up on time. Each athlete is expected to be picked up within 15 minutes after practice or games. Practices are mandatory. If your child has a doctor’s appointment, please try to schedule the appointment around practice and games. Missed practices are made up during the athlete’s own time. ** It is vital to notify a coach if you know you will miss a practice. ** (Please notify before practice by email or a phone call.) If an athlete is sick, but well enough to attend school, she should dress out and participate in practice as much as possible. Quitting
A, Once a sport has started, athletes will have one week to decide if they want to quit for the
entire season. If an athlete quits after the one-week deadline, she should do so by
speaking with the Head Coach of the sport, in person, having their equipment clean and
ready to turn in. Once an athlete quits, they will not be allowed back on the team during
that sport in season.
B. If the athlete continues to dress out and participate in off-season, they will receive a grade of
75 for the six weeks grading period. We want our athletes to take responsibility for their
decisions. Building character is very important and we will stress the importance of finishing
what is started. With parental assistance, we can avoid any misunderstandings and/or
conflict in regards to what is expected.
Game Schedules
Schedules for each sport can be found on the Lakeside Athletics webpage, Coach
Crutsinger’s webpage, and on www.rankonesport.com. Hard copies of the schedules will
also be issued to each athlete before season begins. 4 Illness/Injury Notes
A. If an athlete must miss practice or a game due to illness, injury or other family
emergency, the parent should call the coaches’ office at (972) 292-3200 ext. 12020
and ask to speak with the athlete’s coach. If the coach is unavailable, please leave a
message.
B. Your family doctor, our school nurse or our trainers, should evaluate all injuries.
C. Parent notes are only good for two days, after this a doctor’s note is needed.
D. No more than three parent notes per semester.
E. Injured athletes who cannot actively participate in workouts must still follow all
attendance policies. Being injured is not a reason to miss practice. The injured athlete
will be expected to dress out and participate mentally. (Some injuries may not allow
the athlete to dress out or attend practice. If there is a question, the head will make the
decision on the athlete dressing out or attending a work-out.)
F. The following, although not a complete list, are examples of ailments that are not
injuries and athletes will be expected to practice:
• Allergies
• Sore muscles
•
Headaches
•
Sore throat
•
Stomach aches
•
Menstrual cramps

Parent Expectations:
We want to partner with you to help your daughter become the best player possible.
We would be happy to talk to you at any time about these following three things, with your
daughter in attendance:
1. How your daughter can improve,
2. Behavior or personal issues with your daughter,
3. Your daughter’s grades.
Three things that will never be discussed with a parent:
1. Playing time
2. Game decisions
3. Other players on the team
Coaches and parents will NOT take part in any kind of conference before, during or after a game. If you
would like to talk to a coach about any concerns or questions you may have, please contact them during
their conference period or call to set up a time to have a meeting. We would like to sit and discuss the
concerns or questions you have, but not before, during or after a game. We are working together to raise
young women we can all be proud of and make a positive difference in their lives.
School vs. Club Expectations:
All LEISD athletic events (practices and contests) have first priority over outside club practices
and contests. While we understand that many of our athletes participate in club activities, their first
priority must be to school events. If an athlete is injured and is not participating in practice then they
should not be practicing for club. If they are injured and not playing for the school then the athlete
should not be playing in outside club sports.
7 LAKESIDE ATHLETICS EQUIPMENT AND LOCKER ROOM POLICIES
Lakeside athletes will be issued clothing and equipment valuing approximately $100.00. Each athlete is
responsible for her issued equipment. Lost or damaged beyond repair equipment will be charged to the
responsible athlete’s parent(s). Please safeguard these items as your own.
LOCKER ROOM PRECAUTIONS
The girls’ athletic locker room is located at the end of the gym hallway. Both 7th and 8th grade athletes
will share the locker room. Each athlete will be issued a locker with a built-in locker combination to put
her clothes in.
These locks can easily be left in the open position if the combination is not cleared. To prevent
problems with theft, please be sure ALL clothes and valuables are put in your locker and the locker is
locked daily.
We Expect Our Athletes To:
Memorize their combination
Keep combinations top secret.
Keep small objects, such as rings, chains and money, out of reach.
We have too many students sharing a small area to leave anything outside of the lockers. The coaching
staff is NOT responsible for any items not properly secured in their locker. Please keep this in mind.
8 THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF PARENTS
1. Be positive with your daughter. Let her know she is accomplishing something simply by being part of
the team. Don’t put her down.
2. Don’t offer excuses for her if she is not playing. Encourage her to work and do her best.
3. Don’t put her coaches down. Remember, the coach represents the “boss”, the “authority”, the
“parent”, the “teacher” and the “law”. If you are bad mouthing your daughter’s coaches constantly, how
can you expect her to play for them?
4. Encourage your daughter to follow the rules. Whether she is a first stringer or a seventh stringer,
players must follow the rules. Athletics is very demanding and coaches must concern themselves with a
player’s out of sport activities in order to get maximum physical and mental performance out of the
players.
5. Insist on good grades. If she doesn’t have passing grades, she doesn’t play.
6. Don’t try to live vicariously through your daughter. Don’t show animosity or jealousy to any of your
daughter’s teammates. This type of envy can rub off on your daughter and devastate the team. Who
cares who scores as long as everyone does her job to the fullest?
7. Don’t be a know it all. The coach’s work with the players 9 months a year and they know what each
kid can do and what she cannot do. As a fan you are entitled to scream your head off, but please don’t
become belligerent and arrogant toward the players. They are amateurs. Coaches know their talent.
Respect that knowledge.
8. Insist on your daughter’s respect for team rules, school rules, game officials, and sportsmanship.
Don’t let her make mockery of her family, school, and team by some “uncalled-for” gesture. Selfrespect begins with self-control.
9. Encourage your daughter to improve her self-image by believing in herself. Every person has been
created with worth and value. Always remind your daughter of this fact. Tell her that she is special and
that she is only limited to the degree that she limits himself. Don’t compare or contrast your daughter
with family members who played previously. Every youngster is different.
10. Encourage your daughter to play for the love of the game – not for a scholarship or something that is
in the hands of a college recruiter. Insist on unselfishness. Usually good things happen to unselfish and
hard-working people.
9 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF POLICIES
I have read and understand the policies and procedures of the Lady Lobo Athletic Program. I am aware
of the consequences for violating these policies. If I have any questions regarding the policies, I will
contact the Head Coach or the Girls’ Coordinator at 972-292-3200 ext. 12020. I, also, understand that
the entire Lady Lobo coaching staff will enforce these policies, procedures and consequences.
