ANDISHEH GHOFRANITABARI
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA | MLA 2017
Dear Sir/ Madam
I am excited to apply for your summer internship program at your office in Charlottesville, and I hope to be considered for the position.
My experience as an architect and landscape architect and my status as a Master of Landscape Architecture student in my second year at
University of Virginia, make me an ideal candidate for the your summer 2017 internship position at Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects.
I grew up in north of Iran and studied my bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the most prestigious architecture school of my country in University of Tehran, College of Fine Arts, where I had a chance to work cross disciplinary with other designers, planners and artists to develop a
diverse, open, multi-dimensional approach to design. An approach which I found more practiced in landscape architecture than in any other
disciplines.
With a great passion for the environment, boundless love for plants and a high interest in learning and practicing landscape design, I came
to the US in Aug 2015 to study in this amazing field at the University of Virginia, School of Architecture. I got admitted in a 2.5 year path Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture with a merit-based scholarship throughout the program. Since I started here, I have not only become
proficient in representing landscape design ideas through various visualization skills, but also I have grown the ability to think my design ideas
through different scales of time and space in landscapes that are constantly changing. As I am moving forward in my 4th semester at UVA,
I am developing a vision for a landscape design that connects the public to their changing environment through engaging their senses and
their tools for conceiving the landscape around them.
I believe in hard work and rigor coupled with creativity and an open mind; and that the designers can thrive with patience and flexibility in
collaboration with their colleagues and clients, and can found their creative ideas with hard work and rigor. I am a good listener and a careful
observer and can usually ground quite rapidly in different environments, whether when it is about digesting an unknown landscape for a design project, getting familiar with structure of a new working environment, or understanding a new culture.
My eight years of study and practice in design have given me a solid foundation for this internship and I am comfortable and excited to perform a wide range of job duties in this position. I am eager to contribute my enthusiasm and skills to your firm this summer and to further learn
the discipline through practice from your incredible design staff at the office.
My resume and work sample will give you a greater understanding of my qualifications. I would be available mid-May through mid-August in
Charlottesville area. Please contact me at (434) 446-6907 or [email protected] if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Andisheh Ghofranitabari

The project focuses on reconfiguration of the
public space on the confluences of flows of water and people, in Richmond, Virginia. To this
end, it is proposed to put sponges of soil with
plants on the way of the water flow in an urban
watershed; where it’s also on the way of the flow
of people; meaning the streets. Being on a lower level than the sidewalks, the streets trap the
water on their impervious surfaces, and the life
sponges absorb it on the excessive space of the
parking lanes. As the amount of water increases
according to micro/macro topography, the life
sponges will grow and there will be more plants.
While keeping the grid’s primary function, a better quality of public life will happen on the street
grid of Lower Museum District of Richmond.
