A38 Great Charles Street – 29th September 2010 until March 2011
updated
Works continue on Great Charles Street. The new bridge is to accommodate the
Metro and provide a pedestrian link across Great Charles Street via Metro Station
and lift. The road closure is to allow the demolition of the existing bridge and the
installation of the new deck. Works will be carried out at weekends and out of
normal hours to minimise disruption. The closures will be between
St Chads Circus and Livery Street. (TMS)
The above works require the closure of Great Charles Street Queensway
Northbound and Southbound tunnels and slip roads and the previously agreed
traffic management will be implemented.
Balfour Beatty are working to a strict time table and have specific target times to
achieve during the possession periods due to the railway possession. If target
times can not be achieved the lifts will be aborted. This will ensure no road closure
over run occurs.
The carriageway is not affected directly while the lifts take place and the roads are
only being closed on safety grounds. The crane will be brought on site and
removed from site at times to avoid disruption to traffic. As agreed with the Police
and Other Emergency Service, in the case of an incident taking place in the City
during the crane lift the carriageway can be reopening within minutes.
The Snowhill development access road will also be closed from 7am to 1pm. This
will not require a South Bound slip road closure, the entrance will be coned off and
diversion signs used.

utilise this lane to carry out the work.
It is intended to carry out the work whilst maintaining two way traffic along Bradford

works to the right.
The majority of the vehicle accesses are unaffected by the works and the majority
that are do not currently serve any businesses.

carried out during restricted working hours but the majority of the work will be done
weekdays 7.30am to 5.00pm.
All works areas will be fenced off in barrier and this will be surrounded with cones if
deployed in the carriageway.
When the work to the footways is being carried out near the traffic signal junction a
minimum 3.5m running lane will be maintained on each leg and the excavation will
be confined to the footway with a 1m buffer zone in the carriageway. No lorries will
be allowed to obscure the traffic signal heads or park near the junction and smaller
