St. Matthew Society:
The Planned Giving Ministry of the
Diocese of Bethlehem
The Steering Committee helps parishes
and lay leaders start and sustain
planned giving programs by
encouraging each parish to form a
chapter of the St. Matthew Society of
the Diocese of Bethlehem, an honorary
society begun in 2001 to acknowledge
and thank those who choose to
support the life and work of their
parishes or a ministry of the diocesan
community through bequests and
other planned gifts.
Members of the Steering Committee
work with individual parishes to
establish safe and secure endowment
fund plans and to develop ways to
inform, motivate and thank their fellow
parishioners for planning gifts. Mother
Mo and Marshall Dawsey are our local
Steering Committee members.
Generous parishioners who enroll in
the St. Matthew Society offer witness
to the fact that all that we are and have
comes from God.
Confirmation Classes
If anyone is interested in being
confirmed, please see Mother Mo.
Classes will be held Sundays after
church from noon to 1 PM. The
classes are entitled
"Becoming an Episcopalian 101"
From the Office of Public Affairs,
Episcopal Church
I am an Episcopalian
Visitors to the Episcopal Church
website (www.episcopalchurch.org)
will find an interactive feature called “I
am Episcopalian,” containing short
videos of people "sharing their deep,
personal connections to the big, wide,
vibrant church that we are." The
videos will show the diversity of
Episcopalians. The site will let users
upload their own videos.
Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter Egg Hunt will be held after
Holy Communion on Easter morning,
during the Coffee Hour, for children
age 13 and under. We have many
plastic eggs to fill but need small
individually wrapped candy to fill them.
Donations are welcome!
Collecting a Mile of Pennies!
Our Sunday School children are
collecting a “a mile of pennies” to
support needy children in Bradford
County through the program of
“Partners in Family and Community
Development.”
Why are we doing this project?
Our lesson in Sunday School was
about going the “extra mile.” Jesus
teaches us to love one another and by
doing so, to help one another, to go
the extra mile to do so. It is important
as children grow older that they realize
not everyone is as fortunate as them. It
is also important for them to realize
that even though they are young and
have limited resources, they can make a
difference in someone else’s life in
many ways. Collecting “a mile of
pennies” in their copper painted boxes
is an exciting venture, and especially if
it will help another child.
If you have some pennies to share (and
please, ONLY pennies), drop them in
the container in the rear of the church,
or any copper painted box you find in
the Parish Hall.
Where to go if you are looking for
the latest news about Christ
Episcopal Church???
We have 2 ways to keep in touch and
stay up to date on what is happening at
Christ Church.
If you have not visited our web site,
you really should. Our address is:
http://christchurchtowanda.org
There you will find all the current
calendars and schedules as well as
information about activities at the
church.
In addition to our website, the Diocese
of Bethlehem has provided all of its
parishes the services of
ChurchPost.com. This service allows
our members to enroll in "groups" that
will allow the "owner" of that group to
send emails to those interested.
There are currently four groups
available and we plan to add more
groups as we learn to use this service.
PLEASE use the "Get connected" to
sign up for emails. By selecting the
groups that interest you, you will
receive only the information that you
consider relevant. Your email address
will never be given out or sold and you
can subscribe or unsubscribe to any of
the groups as often as you wish by
simply re-visiting our website.
