Mondes Électriques Electric Worlds 19e -21e siècles CrEations, circulations, tensions, transitions Colloque international / International conference 18-19 décembre / December 18th-19th 2014 Espace Fondation EDF Paris, France In 1990, the Association for the History of Electricity in France organized a conference entitled « Electricity and electrification in the world. » This event sought to transcend the national focus of the Association by opening French borders to the world of electricity. In 2014, the Committee for the History of Electricity and Energy revives its ambition to set a new milestone in the history of electricity around the world. Historiography in this field now adopts imperial, transnational, network, and global approaches. There is also new research on the gendered and racial dimensions of energy. Finally, we see greater attention to the second half of the 20th century, especially the last two decades which have witnessed significant changes in the fields of production and regulation. The present conference showcases these new terrains and approaches in order to offer fresh perspectives on the history of electricity and energy. Cette manifestation marquait l’ambition de dépasser les frontières hexagonales pour s’ouvrir sur le monde de l’électricité. C’était une extension spatiale des interrogations essentiellement nationales qui avaient cours alors au sein de l’Association. Une vingtaine d’années plus tard, le Comité d’histoire de l’électricité et de l’énergie renoue avec cette ambition, pour poser un nouveau jalon de l’histoire de l’électricité à l’échelle du monde, mais sous un angle, qui, à côté du cadre national ou conjointement à lui, tienne aussi désormais compte des approches transnationales, connectées, globales, impériales qui ont marqué les développements de l’historiographie durant la période. Il s’agira aussi d’accorder une plus grande attention à la question du genre et à la période la plus contemporaine, la seconde moitié du 20e siècle et les deux dernières décennies, qui ont connu de profonds changements en matière de production et de régulation, et sur lesquelles portent un nombre croissant de travaux. De nouvelles recherches ont été conduites, de nouveaux territoires explorés, qu’en somme ce colloque permettra de réunir et de mettre en perspective. Founded in 1982 at the initiative of President Marcel Boiteux, Maurice Magnien, then Director of R&D, and François Caron, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the Association for the history of electricity in France was a fruitful meeting structure of the business and the academic worlds. The missions of the association were taken up in 2001 by a new Committee for the history of electricity. Endorsing the expansion of the field of study that has occurred in practice over the years, the name of the Committee evolved in 2013 to explicitly mention energy. Supported by the EDF Foundation, the Committee for the history of electricity and energy has three objectives: supporting academic research, studying industrial heritage and promoting its protection, sharing and communicating knowledge. The Committee meets twice a year to decide on actions in these areas. Committee members are renewed by thirds, for a term of three years. Créée en 1982 à l’initiative du Président Marcel Boiteux, de Maurice Magnien, directeur des Etudes et Recherches, et de François Caron, Professeur d’histoire contemporaine à l’Université Paris-Sorbonne, l’Association pour l’histoire de l’électricité en France a été une structure féconde de rencontre du monde de l’entreprise et du monde académique. Les missions de l’AHEF ont été reprises en 2001 par un nouveau Comité d’histoire de l’électricité. Entérinant l’élargissement du domaine d’étude qui s’est opéré dans la pratique au fil des ans, la dénomination du Comité a évolué en 2013 pour faire explicitement mention de l’énergie. Soutenu par la Fondation EDF, le Comité d’histoire de l’électricité et de l’énergie a trois objectifs : conduire ou accompagner des recherches scientifiques, étudier et valoriser le patrimoine matériel et immatériel, partager et communiquer les savoirs. Le Comité se réunit deux fois par an pour décider des actions dans ces domaines. Les membres du Comité sont renouvelés par tiers, pour un mandat de trois ans.
