Activities across the Fraternity will include Heart of the Community projects, member dinners, fraternal nights, lodge improvement efforts, expired member phone-a-thons, and other programs developed locally. “The inaugural Member Retention Week helped inspire a number of our lodges and chapters to become more active in their retention activities not only during this brief time span, but throughout the year,” said Kim Thompson, assistant director of Retention and Recognition for the Membership Department. “This week really helped focus our attention on retention, although I would encourage our lodges and chapters to continue to use the Expired Member Kits, which are sent each month via email, in order to aide in retaining expired members on a regular basis.” IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Loyal Order of Moose is a private organization. Another month is gone and we are having a very good year. We want to say congratulaƟons to our lodge for making the Moose Magazine with a picture of our 4th of July float and for our Guardians. A huge THANK-YOU to everyone who helped make our Higher Degree Banquet a great success. Gary Brenner, Shorty Cook, Chris Rice, Marilyn Post, Kathy Takesheta, and her son's Pete and Keith, Jean Keegan, Joan Quigley, Hazen and Marge Bernard. And a very special shout out for our Chef Rachel Hedeen. Again thank you all very much. We also want to thank our bartenders who do a great job. Look for the soup specials every Sunday aŌernoon. Lets make this month an even beƩer month. November is here and with it brings thoughts of Holidays and family. Speaking of Holidays and family the WOTM officers will be hosƟng a Thanksgiving dinner on November 23rd. Come and enjoy a variety of dishes made by some of the best cooks around. The Higher Degree banquet was a huge success as well as the kid’s Halloween party. Thanks to all that made it happen. We have some great volunteers and they all work so hard and deserve our thanks, without them many projects that we do would not be possible. Just a reminder our dues will be, per InternaƟonal, increasing on January 1, 2015. You may want to renew yours before they do. They will be going from $25.00 to $30.00. November 11th is Veterans Day. Please take a moment from your busy lives to remember our men and women in the military that have served and are serving our country. Our New Member quota for this year is 59. We have enrolled a smidge over 20. Whoops!! Okay , so we will work on that. We need to finish the year with one more acƟve member than we began the year with. How are we doing, you ask? Whoops!! Again I must get on my soap box and stress the importance of member retenƟon. Hiƫng the 59 new member quota is wonderful, but of no good if 60 members hustle out the back door. Please take note of Membership RetenƟon week November 2-8. We are planning some acƟviƟes to help our Lodge focus on Membership. Bring down a buddy who was previously a member. As an incenƟve to re-up we will award these Brothers with a free dinner on Thursday (Hamburger Night) or Friday (Off the menu Night). His spouse or significant other will also eat free. We had a good Ɵme as always and earned some funds to donate to Moose ChariƟes. In the process. I know it has already been stated a few Ɵmes but I need to add my thanks to all of our volunteers. All of the lodge members who volunteered to help with our Higher Degree banquet– outstanding, all of the volunteers who cook, clean, arrange , donate, finagle, scheme, execute, cajole...remember...without all of you behind the scenes there wouldn't be a Moose Lodge. A Snowstorm Strong Community Service Program Builds Awareness and Showcases Value At various points through the year, any number of Moose members are going to have an idea for a community service project that their Lodge or Chapter can organize. When those moments happen, the next step is to attend a Lodge or Chapter meeting and present that idea, said Moose International Director of Activities Shawn Baile. “Under normal circumstances, a member would present his or her idea to the Board of Officers for consideration,” Baile said. “Ideally, if the Board of Officers feels it’s a viable idea then this is something that would be passed to the Lodge’s Heart of the Community Committee.” Baile said not every idea results in a community service event. However, he said receptiveness to members’ suggestions is important. “People are going to have ideas,” he said. “You don’t want to have your mind made up before it’s presented that it’s not going to work or that you don’t want to hear about it. Every idea is worth being heard.” Baile said the vitality of a Lodge operation often rests on the strength of its commitment to being the “Heart of the Community.” “Having a strong Community Service program can in no way hurt your Lodge,” Baile said. “If your Lodge is doing things for the community and it’s visible, then it’s all the more attractive to non-members.” To that end, Baile said it’s important to loudly proclaim the fact that the Moose is the sponsoring organization of the event when it takes place. “It can be something as simple as wearing a Moose hat or jacket or wearing Moose Tshirts for a highway cleanup,” Baile said. “That’s free advertising. People will then start to associate a Moose Lodge with doing good works in the community.
