National 2004 3rd State 2005 1st 2nd Place 2004 2005 2006 2007 Volume 13 Issue 11 Brandon, Florida Published monthly by Brandon Elks #2383 800 Centennial Lodge Dr., Brandon, FL 33510 ALL AMERICAN LODGE Message from your Exalted Ruler It is February already! Well it’s true time flies when you are having fun! We had a blast bringing in the New Year, thanks to everyone that came out to enjoy the party! Our second annual Hoe Down was one heck of a good time. We hosted 8 veterans from Liberty Manor. The hall was filled with decorations, boots and hats from all over Brandon. Kim Betts and The Gamble Creek Band kept the dance floor hopping. Thanks to everyone that bought tickets, setup, cooked, cleaned and worked hard to make this another successful event for our lodge. We will be heading up to The Youth Camp for the Quarterly meeting where we will be seeing the GER John Amen and make a donation to the HATF. Also remember to come out on Sunday for the NFL playoffs and a Super Bowl Party and Chili Cook Off! Tuesday Nights are also a great night to come out to the lodge, it’s game night and a lot of fun! Also remember to come out to the BLOE breakfast and the Youth Breakfast! February 2015 www.brandonelks.org Phone: 685-6469 Fax: 643-5652 years old with rotten lumber, well not anymore this friendly visiting Elk and a few of his RV buddies have replaced all of the rotten wood with pressure treated wood. Mike Dadetto PER from the Lacey Elks Lodge 2518, Forked River, NJ. Thank you so much I appreciate all you have done for our Lodge and whether he knows it or not he has given me some great advice. So if you see Mike around the Lodge, thank him for his kindness and hard work. Please keep our active military and our veteran’s in your thoughts and prayers. Elks Facts: On Feb. 12, 1871, Claude Goldie received a New York State Charter for the B.P.O.E.'s New York Lodge No. 1, and the first Grand Lodge meeting was called to order at 4:15 PM at 114-116 East 13th St. in New York City." Elks Care, Elks Share, God Bless, Larry Oliver, Exalted Ruler January was a great month for our Friday night dinners we averaged about 70 dinners each night. Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the food, music and fellowship. Elk of the Month for January The RV Park has been busy with fellow Elks from all over. They have been very active in all of our events, game nights and Friday night dinners. One of them in particular has been busy fixing broken items around the Lodge. If you are around, please notice none of the chairs will throw you off and this visiting Elk fixed them by replacing the missing feet pads on all of them. Also in the RV park all of the spaces have picnic tables some of them are 15-20 Our Elk of the Month for January is a member that can been seen in the kitchen cooking for BLOE breakfast, Veterans Night Dinner, and jumping in anywhere she is needed. She has helped in most of the events that have gone on this year. She has saved me so many times by jumping in and getting the job done. It’s my honor to recognize Nancy Price as Elk of the month. Thank you for all you do! I have enjoyed working with Lowell Tyler, who has been the state historian for the past 19 years. I am deeply indebted to him for all the work he has accomplished over the years. He has been assisted by the staff of the Florida State Elks Association and especially Carl Seibert and Rachael King. Lowell has authored several books and prepared the Encyclopedia of Florida Elkdom. This is a wonderful resource for all Lodge members, officers, newsletter editors, district vice presidents and district deputies. I urge every member to use its new Google-like search capability. In reviewing the encyclopedia, I have noticed that a lot of the information is not current. We are creating history in our Lodges every day and we need you to send updated information so that it can be shared with all members and preserved for perpetuity. Have you had a DD, VP or state president in your Lodge that is not recorded? Maybe your Lodge has moved into new quarters or expanded. When did the move or expansion occur? Has your Lodge been selected for some honors, such as All-American Lodge? Do you sponsor annual events other than normal Elks activities, like a bike rodeo or the state barbecue cook-off? Do you have a softball team that has won at the state level? Anything that is significant should be included. In years past, we had Lodge historians, but that position was abolished by Grand Lodge sometime in the past. Many of our Lodges are preserving their history with the scrapbook. This is excellent but it is usually kept in your Lodge and not shared. We want you to share your important events. If you have something you feel should be included, please send it to me at [email protected] and I will review it and send it on to Rachael to be included. In closing, if there is anything we can do for your Lodge, please feel free to contact us. Even if you feel everything is ok with your Lodge entry, let me know by sending an email and saying it is correct and up to date. Thank you, Truman Bass Truman Bass, State Historian Member Appreciation and First Responder Dinner Saturday 28 March 2015 1:00 to 6:00pm Please plan to attend dinner at the Brandon Elks Lodge on Saturday 28 March 2015. Dinner is on the Elks Lodge and all current members, widows, and their families are invited to attend. This dinner is also being put on to honor the men and women of Hillsborough County that keep us safe and respond to our emergency needs. Make sure you shake their hands and thank them! Dinner will include pulled pork, chicken and all the fixins. 7 BRANDON ELKS LODGE #2383 THE BUGLE FEBRUARY 2015 Brandon Officers & Committees for 2014-2015 Exalted Ruler Larry Oliver 767-0870 Leading Knight Guy Wolf 966-3808 Loyal Knight Delores Westfall 363-1562 Lecturing Knight Bob Ippoliti 651-9612 Esquire David Carter 361-4494 Chaplain Gerry Westfall 363-1713 Tiler Christine Vogel 230-2117 Inner Guard Nickie Wells 716-8051 Secretary Tom Tennant 727-8582 Treasurer Larry Harris 685-6469 1 year Trustee Rick Weigand 748-2678 2 year Trustee Dennis Osborn 610-7099 3 year Trustee George Thomas 685-7262 4 year Trustee Bob Young 388-1118 5 year Trustee Mary Lou Scribner 230-1943 COMMITTEE CHAIR Bugle Boosters All donations will expire on 31 March 2015.
