On September 23, 1970, Billie Jean King, joined by Rosemary Casals, Nancy Richey, Kerry Melville, Peaches Bartkowicz, Kristy Pigeon, Judy
Dalton, Valerie Ziegenfuss and Julie Heldman, decided to participate in the inaugural $7,500 Virginia Slims of Houston event.
Billie Jean King and her group of eight other renegades
were revolutionary by 1970s standards. A full two years
ahead of the passage of Title IX in the United States,
they envisioned a better future for womenвЂ™s tennis. In
September 1970, the birth of womenвЂ™s professional
tennis was launched when nine players signed $1
contracts with World Tennis publisher Gladys Heldman to
compete in a new womenвЂ™s tour, the Virginia Slims Series.
The Original 9, as they were called, included Billie Jean
King, Rosie Casals, Nancy Richey, Kerry Melville, Peaches
Bartkowicz, Kristy Pigeon, Judy Dalton, Valerie Ziegenfuss
and Julie Heldman.
Heldman, along with her friend Joe Cullman from
Philip Morris and several others, provided womenвЂ™s
professional tennis the opportunity the Original 9 and
so many others sought. The inaugural $7,500 Virginia
Slims of Houston was established on September
23, 1970 and it was the event that became the
groundbreaker for all others.
1971 вЂ“ The Virginia Slims Series debuted with 19
tournaments, with a total purse of $309,100 on offer in
the United States and Billie Jean King became the first
female athlete to cross the six-figure mark in season
earnings.
1973 вЂ“ Billie Jean King founded the WomenвЂ™s Tennis
Association, uniting all of womenвЂ™s professional tennis
in one tour. The WTA was born out of a meeting held
in a room at the Gloucester Hotel in London the week
before Wimbledon. US Open, for the first time, offered

equal prize money to the men and women.
1974 вЂ“ The WTA signed the first television broadcast
contract in the history of the Association (with CBS).
1975 вЂ“ The Virginia Slims Series was streamlined to an 11week tour of the US, concluding at the end of March.
1976 вЂ“ Colgate assumed sponsorship of the tour events
from April to November for four years. At the Palm
Springs event, Chris Evert became the first female
athlete to cross $1 million in career earnings.
1977 вЂ“ New York hosted the Virginia Slims Championships
for the first time.
1979 вЂ“ Avon, replacing Virginia Slims as winter circuit
sponsor, offered a record $100,000 to the winner of
the Avon Circuit Championship.
1980 вЂ“ By now more than 250 women were playing
professionally all over the world in a Tour consisting
of 47 global events, offering a total $7.2 million in
prize money.

the ITF for winning Roland Garros and thus holding
all four Grand Slam singles crowns at the same time,
having won Wimbledon and the US and Australian
Opens in 1983. Navratilova crossed the $2-million

1986 вЂ“ Navratilova passed $10 million in career earnings
by winning the US Indoors.
1988 вЂ“ Steffi Graf became the second woman in the
Open Era to complete a calendar year Grand Slam,
and made it a вЂ�Golden Grand SlamвЂ™ by winning the
Olympic title in Seoul.
1990 вЂ“ Another Philip Morris company, Kraft General
Foods, replaced Virginia Slims after 15 years of loyal
sponsorship. The tourвЂ™s prize purse increased to $23
million and concluded the season at Madison Square
Garden, in New York, with the first-ever $1-million
tournament in womenвЂ™s sports. Navratilova won a
record ninth Wimbledon singles title.
1991 вЂ“ Monica Seles became only the second player to
pass the $2-million mark in season earnings and would
better menвЂ™s leader Stefan Edberg in вЂ�91 and вЂ�92.
1995 вЂ“ The WTA Players Association merged with the
WomenвЂ™s Tennis Council to form the WTA Tour, and
after Monica SelesвЂ™ inspiring return to the sport in
the summer, the Corel software corporation came
on as title sponsor at the end of the year; prize
money of the season-ending Championships
doubled to $2 million.
1997 вЂ“ On March 30, Martina Hingis became the
fastest player ever to win $1 million in a season and
a day later became the youngest-ever world No. 1,
ending GrafвЂ™s record reign (for men and women) of
377 total weeks.
1998 вЂ“ By winning Leipzig, Graf eclipsed NavratilovaвЂ™s alltime prize money record.
1999 вЂ“ After 17 years, Graf retired from the Tour with 22
Grand Slam singles titles and a record $21,895,277 in
career earnings.
2000 вЂ“ Sanex bodycare products came on board as
the TourвЂ™s title sponsor for three years. After 22
consecutive years, Madison Square Garden hosted its
last season-ending Championships
2001 вЂ“ The Australian Open returned to equal prize
money and overall Tour prize money increased to $50
million in 63 events, including the first-ever Middle
Eastern Tour events in Doha, Qatar and Dubai, UAE.
Munich hosted the season-ending Championships.
Jennifer Capriati capped a fairytale return to the sport
by winning her first two career Grand Slam titles and
rising to No. 1 in October.
2002 вЂ“ The Williams sisters fulfilled their fatherвЂ™s prophecy
by becoming the No.1 players in the world, first Venus
in February, then Serena in July. Serena won three
majors, defeating her older sister in each final. Los
Angeles hosted the season-ending Championships
for the first time since 1976.
2003 вЂ“ The вЂњGet In Touch With Your Feminine SideвЂќ
marketing campaign was launched, at the time it
was the TourвЂ™s most significant branding effort in its
history. Serena Williams won the Australian Open
to complete the вЂњSerena SlamвЂќ while Kim Clijsters
became the first female athlete to earn $4 million in
season earnings.
2004 вЂ“ Dubai Duty Free became Presenting Sponsor of
the Middle East/Asia-Pacific region, while Whirlpool
came on board as European Premier Sponsor. The
season will be remembered as the year of the Russian
emergence, with Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova
and Svetlana Kuznetsova claiming their nationвЂ™s first
Grand Slam singles titles.
2005 вЂ“ Sony Ericsson became the TourвЂ™s worldwide title
sponsor in a landmark $88-million, six-year deal, the
largest and most comprehensive sponsorship in the
history of tennis and of womenвЂ™s professional sport.
As winner of the US Open Series, Kim Clijsters earns
double prize money for winning the US Open; her $2.2
million prize cheque was the single biggest payday in
womenвЂ™s sports and in any official tennis event, menвЂ™s
or womenвЂ™s.
2006 вЂ“ Worldwide title sponsor Sony Ericsson unveiled
several game-changing innovations designed to
make the sport more fan-friendly and interactive
(such as electronic line-calling and on-court coaching).
Partnerships with USANA Health Sciences and Travelex
were announced, along with the extension of the
TourвЂ™s partnership with Eurosport/Regency into 2011,
becoming the largest TV deal in the history of womenвЂ™s
tennis; European Premier Sponsor Whirlpool extended
its agreement for three years. Martina Navratilova
ended her 32-year career in which she amassed more
titles than any other female or male player. A global
partnership with UNESCO was announced to advance
gender equality and promote womenвЂ™s leadership in
society.
2007 вЂ“ The Board of Directors approved the Roadmap
circuit reform, the most sweeping changes in WTA
history which included a shorter season, fan-friendly
structure and 40 percent increase in Tour prize money
(from 2009). The historic achievement of equal prize
money at Roland Garros and Wimbledon meant
that following a 30-year campaign that began with
Billie Jean King, all four majors offered parity for the
first time. After two successful years in Madrid, the
Tour announced the season-ending Sony Ericsson
Championships would move to Doha, Qatar for 20082010 and to Istanbul, Turkey from 2011-13. Justine
Henin became the first woman to earn $5 million in a
single season.
2008 вЂ“ Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Tour unveiled
the largest advertising campaign in its history,
вЂњLooking For A Hero?,вЂќ which was launched on the
eve of Wimbledon. Around the same time, the TourвЂ™s
Asia-Pacific headquarters opened in Beijing, China,
complementing existing offices in St Petersburg,
Florida and London, England. Dubai Duty Free
announced an extension of its Tour sponsorship
through 2011, while Justine Henin became the first
player to retire while ranked No.1 in the world, saying
goodbye to professional tennis at the age of 25. A
record five different women held the No.1 ranking
during the season (Henin, Sharapova, Ivanovic,
Jankovic, S.Williams), while Doha, Qatar made a
successful debut as host of the season-ending Sony
Ericsson Championships.
2009 вЂ“ Off the court, Stacey Allaster succeeded Larry
Scott as chairman and CEO of the WTA, while on
court the historic Roadmap circuit reforms became
a reality. Serena Williams secured the year-end No.1
during the WTA Championships, where she became
the first player in history to earn more than $6million
in prize money in a single season. Caroline Wozniacki
reached a Tour-leading eight finals, winning three of
them. The 53 titles were won by 34 different players,
producing 13 first-time champions and proving the
depth of womenвЂ™s tennis. Kim Clijsters stormed out
of retirement and won the US Open in only her third
tournament back.

of womenвЂ™s professional tennis, marking four
decades of unprecedented growth and an
increase in annual prize money from $309,100 to
$85 million. Serena Williams collected two more
Grand Slam titles but it was Caroline Wozniacki
who secured the year-end No.1 ranking after
picking up six titles. Kim Clijsters was crowned
champion at the WTA Championships вЂ“ Doha after
picking up her third, and second consecutive,
US Open singles crown.В Justine Henin made a
comeback from retirement and soared to No.12,
while Francesca Schiavone became the first Italian
to win a Grand Slam title with victory at Roland
Garros.В Sony Ericsson renewed its sponsorship
with a 2-year extension, while new sponsorship
deals were signedВ with Oriflame, as official
cosmetics partner, and Peak, as tennis apparel
provider in Asia-Pacific.
2011 вЂ“ Kim Clijsters began the season by winning
her fourth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open,
which was followed by three first-time Grand Slam
champions: Li Na became the first player from Asia
to win a Grand Slam singles title at Roland Garros;
Petra Kvitova broke through at Wimbledon, one
of her six titles during the season; and Samantha
Stosur dominated at the US Open, defeating
Serena Williams in the final. For the first time in
WTA history, 10 different nations were represented
in the worldвЂ™s Top 10 rankings. The TEB BNP Paribas
WTA Championships made a successful debut
in Istanbul, Turkey, with more than 70,000 fans
in attendance. Off court, the WTA launched its
global advertising campaign вЂ�Strong is BeautifulвЂ™,
featuring 40 players, in more than 80 markets. BNP
Paribas and its Turkish partner TEB signed on as
the title sponsor of the Championships, and Rolex
became the official timekeeper of the prestigious
season-ending event. Jetstar was announced as
the WTAвЂ™s official airline partner in Asia-Pacific,
while sponsorship renewals were secured with
European cosmetics brand Oriflame, and global
vitamin and health supplement manufacturer
USANA. The Board of Directors extended Stacey
AllasterвЂ™s CEO contract through 2017, seeing her
become the second-longest serving CEO in WTA
history.
2012 вЂ“ Victoria Azarenka became the fourth firsttime Grand Slam winner in a row with her maiden
victory at the Australian Open, duly becoming
the 21st woman to hold the world No.1 singles
ranking. Maria Sharapova captured her first
Roland Garros title to become the sixth woman
in the Open Era to complete a career Grand Slam,
returning to No.1 for four weeks. But the second
half of the season belonged to Serena Williams,
who defeated Sharapova for a fifth Wimbledon
singles title and again to seal her career Golden
Slam with gold at the London Olympics; Serena
also combined with Venus to win the doubles
at both events at the All England Club. Serena
went on to edge Azarenka for a fourth US Open
crown, her 15th Grand Slam title, and capped
the season by winning the TEB BNP Paribas WTA
Championships in Istanbul, again at SharapovaвЂ™s
expense. The Italian duo of Sara Errani and
Roberta Vinci emerged as a force in doubles,
winning Roland Garros and the US Open, but it
was the Russian pair of Maria Kirilenko and Nadia
Petrova who prevailed at Istanbul. After three

years in Bali, the Tournament of Champions, the
season finale of the International Series, moved
to Sofia, Bulgaria, with Petrova again triumphantВ
вЂ” this time in singles. The WTA also said farewell
to two popular stars of womenвЂ™s tennis in multiple
Grand Slam champion, Kim Clijsters, and former
world No.1 doubles player, Gisela Dulko. Clijsters
called time on her illustrious career at the US
Open leaving the sport and her legion of fans with
memories of her four Grand Slam titles, 20 weeks
as world No.1 and engaging persona both on and
off the court. В Off court, for the first time since
the 1980s, all nine members of the trailblazing
Original 9 were reunited during the Family Circle
Cup in Charleston, while preparations began for
celebrations to mark the WTAвЂ™s 40th anniversary,
to be celebrated in 2013.
2013 - Founded by Billie Jean King in 1973, the WTA
recognized four decades of growth and achievement
with a season-long campaign named 40 LOVE. The
campaign showcased the pioneers of the game and
the current stars that all contributed to the ongoing
success of womenвЂ™s professional tennis and the WTA.
In a year celebrating the growth of the tour, Serena
Williams enjoyed a record-setting season with
personal-bests in titles (11 - most since 1997), match
win percentage (.951 - best since 1999), prize money
($12,385,572 - third highest in tennis history, men or
women), match wins (74) and the longest match
win streak (34) since 2000. Williams continued her
climb up the Grand Slam record charts improving
her overall total to 17 Grand Slam singles titles by
winning Roland Garros and the US Open before
capping her record-setting season by winning the
title at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in
the eventвЂ™s final year in Istanbul. The year-end event
will be held in Singapore for its next five editions
(2014-18). Williams ended the year as world No.1 for
the third time in her career, followed by No.2 Victoria
Azarenka, who defended her Australian Open title.
Li Na finished the 2013 season ranked No.3, the
highest ranking obtained by a Asian player - man
or woman. Four Chinese women finished the year
in the Top 60 (also No.43 Peng Shuai, No.52 Zhang
Shuai, No.53 Zheng Jie), the most Chinese women
in a year-end WTA ranking. On the doubles front
Peng combined with Chinese TaipeiвЂ™s Hsieh SuWei to win five titles including Wimbledon and the
WTA Championships. 2013 saw the emergence of
Rising Stars with 16 players born in 1993 (or later)
finishing in the year-end Top 100, including eight
in the Top 50. Genie Bouchard, who reached QF or
better at 5 of her 17 main draw events in 2013, was
voted 2013 Newcomer of the Year by international
tennis media. Meanwhile Rising Stars Madison Keys,
Laura Robson, Sloane Stephens and Elina Svitolina
ascended the rankings finishing the year in the Top
50. With players competing for a record-setting
$118 million in prize money, 25 players finished the
year with at least $1million in prize money (previous
record was 2010, 19).
2014 - The WTA crowned 13 maiden title winners
in 2014: Genie Bouchard (NГјrnberg), Caroline
Garcia (Bogota), Madison Keys (Eastbourne), Karin
Knapp (Tashkent), GarbiГ±e Muguruza (Hobart),
Kurumi Nara (Rio de Janeiro), Tsvetana Pironkova

And, for the first time since 2011 and just the 11th
time in the Open Era there were four different
Grand Slam Champions in 2014. Chinese great
Li Na captured her second Grand Slam title in
Melbourne, Maria Sharapova won her 5th Grand
Slam title at Roland Garros, Petra Kvitova showed
impeccable form to claim her second Wimbledon
title and Serena Williams did not drop a set en
route to her third straight US Open title. At Roland
Garros, Simona Halep became the first Romanian
woman to reach a Grand Slam final in 34 years (last
was 1980 Roland Garros, R-Up Ruzici) and backed it
up with SF run at Wimbledon. Also at Wimbledon,
Genie Bouchard became CanadaвЂ™s first Grand Slam
singles finalist, male or female and made her Top 10
debut at No.7, beating the previous Canadian best
of No.8 (Bassett-Seguso). The doubles team of Sara
Errani and Roberta Vinci won 5 titles and completed
the career Grand Slam at Wimbledon вЂ“ just the 5th
team in the Open Era to accomplish that feat. Serena
Williams made history in NYC by winning the U.S.
Open - her 18th career Grand Slam title, equaling
Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova for secondmost in the Open Era. After reaching a career-high
ranking of No.2 вЂ“ the highest singles ranking ever by
an Asian player вЂ“ Li Na said goodbye to professional
tennis in September. In October, Singapore became
the first city in Asia Pacific and the 9th city overall
to host the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore
presented by SC Global. For the first time in the
eventвЂ™s history, the WTA Finals format was expanded
to include representatives from the past (Legends
Classic), the present and the future (Rising Stars
Invitational and Future Stars). Additionally, a 10day fan fest ran in conjunction with the event. For
the third consecutive year (and third time in Finals
history) each player competing in the singles
competition represented a different country. Serena
Williams ended the season lifting the Billie Jean King
Trophy at the WTA Finals for the third consecutive
year. Williams also secured the WTA Year-End No.1
singles ranking, presented by Dubai Duty Free, for
the fourth time in her career. She has held the No.
1 ranking since February 18, 2013 and became the
first player to hold the No.1 ranking for the entire
calendar year since Steffi Graf in 1996. She currently
holds the fourth longest stay at No. 1 in WTA history
(97 weeks, through the end of 2014) and is fourth alltime in terms of weeks at No.1 (221 weeks, through
the end of 2014). In Singapore, the WTA announced
the appointment of Micky Lawler as President of the
WTA, responsible for driving the WTAвЂ™s international
growth strategy, business development, marketing
and new fan engagement programs, and member
and industry relations.

WTA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Player Development is the WTAвЂ™s education and resource center, outreaching to WTA players and their support
teams. Player Development programs promote and enhance playersвЂ™ career fulfillment, safety and well-being.
вЂњHowвЂќ, you might ask? Players access WTA services and gain concrete skills to maximize their performance and
mitigate the known environmental stressors.
В Player Development programs are scientifically proven to keep female tennis players in and at the top of
their Game.
MENTOR PROGRAMвЂ“ PARTNERS FOR SUCCESS
The 1st mentor program in professional sports, Partners For Success brings together young players with veteran
and retired players who share their dynamic experience to help these protГ©gГ©s make a smooth transition into their
careers. Billie Jean King, the programвЂ™s historian, exemplifies the role of a mentor.
PLAYER ORIENTATIONвЂ“ ROOKIE HOURS
Players learn the on-site realities and responsibilities of being a participant on the WTA. The orientation helps the
players understand the building blocks of the business and her responsibilities and opportunities.
MEDIA TRAINING
Players learn how to be prepared, professional and self-expressive in public speaking opportunities.
В PLANNINGZONE & SCHEDULEZONE
ScheduleZone is an interactive, online tool that players and their support teams use to optimize performance and
career longevity, and minimize the risks of injury. Players plan their upcoming tournament season taking critical
factors into account as they receive feedback specific to their age, ranking, and individualized scheduling decisions.
ScheduleZone is supported with other tennis-specific lessons on Preparation, Performance and Recovery.
PLAYER SUPPORT TEAM
Parents, coaches, agents, and fitness trainers are an integral part of each playerвЂ™s career. The WTA is committed
to providing information to these Support Team members, ranging from what players will encounter in the
professional arena to the rules and expectations that govern all parties in the environment, including adherence
to the Code of Conduct and, for credentialed coaches, possession of a qualified coaching certification.
AGE ELIGIBLITY
The Age Eligibility Rule progressively allows players to play more and at a higher level by phasing them into
professional tennis in accordance with their age, their ranking and the skills gained from participation in Player

В TRANSITIONS
Transitions is the culmination of the Player Journey and provides sophisticated education, training and career
guidance to maximize opportunities, in business and in life, during the tennis career and after.В Current and
alumnae players have access to a range of programs, including: financial planning and investing; gaining
coaching certifications; networking and alumnae reunions; В online graduate and undergraduate university degree
programs; and public speaking /business presentations.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT - HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
As part of the WTAвЂ™s overall committed approach to the well-being and success of its players, Player Development
programs have been offered since 1995 to facilitate skill development, promote career fulfillment and longevity,
and minimize the physical, psychological and developmental risks of competing in womenвЂ™s professional tennis.
In 2004, the WTA marked the ten year anniversary of these model programs by conducting an extensive review,
guided by the Player Development Advisory Panel. The Panel is an independent, volunteer body of leading
international sports sciences and medicine professionals with extensive experience with female professional
athletes and tennis players. The panel is commissioned annually to advise the WTA on all aspects of its athlete
growth and development programs.
SUMMARY OF REVIEW FINDINGS
Since their implementation in 1995, the WTAвЂ™s innovative Player Development programs have been proven
successful at addressing the athletesвЂ™ top stress and performance-related factors, reducing burn-out and
increasing career longevity. Specific statistics include:
вЂў Premature retirements (prior to age 22) dropped from 7% to less than 1%.

вЂў Playing careers are lasting 24% longer and a WTA player was 73% more likely to enjoy a 15-year career in 2004
compared with1994.
вЂў 1994 athlete stressors such as media, loneliness and family are no longer at the top of the list. Performancebased stressors, including injuries, expectations and competition are of increased concern and while common
in pro sports, are importantly addressed through Roadmap and other WTA programs.
вЂў Players and the tennis community overwhelmingly (90% overall) support the need for Player Development
programs.
PANEL CONCLUSIONS
вЂў The programs and rule have greatly reduced burnout while fostering the health, development and long-term
success of young athletes.
вЂў The WTAвЂ™s Player Development is cutting edge and recognized as a model within the sports community in
its approach to helping athletes anticipate and manage the physical and psychological demands of full-time
professional tennis.
вЂў Early exposure to the programs is creating a new generation of athlete who can mitigate the sportвЂ™s external
factors (family, media, etc.) to focus more on important performance factors (expectations, injuries, etc.) that
maximize career potential.
AGE ELIGIBILITY RULE (AER) HIGHLIGHTS:
A 14-year-old may play up to 8 professional events (WTA & ITF WomenвЂ™s Circuit), no more than 3 of which can
have prize money at $50K or greater; plus Fed Cup.
A 15-year-old may play up to 10 professional events (WTA & ITF WomenвЂ™s Circuit), WTA Finals (if she qualifies),
plus Fed Cup.
A 16-year-old may play up to 12 professional events (WTA & ITF WomenвЂ™s Circuit), WTA Finals (if she qualifies),
plus Fed Cup.
A 17-year-old may play up to 16 professional events (WTA & ITF WomenвЂ™s Circuit), WTA Finals (if she qualifies), plus
Fed Cup. In the WTA Year of her 17th birthday a player may be named to the Top 10 and/or Premier Player Lists.
Merited Increases: A player aged 15-17 is allowed up to four (4) merited increases per birth year (i.e., birthday to
birthday). Merited increases are in addition to a playerвЂ™s allotted number of Tournaments under the AER, and
may be earned as follows:
В·WTA Premier Mandatory (PM)/Grand Slam (GS) eligibility: A player must be a direct ranking acceptance
into the Main Draw or Qualifying of PM/GS events. Players may include up to two (2) Grand Slam events in
their total number of four (4) merited increases. However, if a player accepts a Wild Card into a PM or GS event
rather than entering through direct ranking acceptance, the tournament shall be included into her total
allotment of Tournaments under the AER rather than as a merited increase.
В·Pro Path: A player who is a Year-end Top 5 ITF Junior and/or has reached the singles final of a Junior Grand
Slam tournament may earn up to two merited increases at age 15 and up to three merited increases at ages
16 and 17.
В·
If a player is eligible under both the WTA Premier Mandatory/Grand Slam and the Pro Path, she may combine
opportunities to reach the maximum of four (4) merited increases per birth year. WTA Premier Mandatory/
Grand Slam and Pro Path merited increases can be used when a player and her support team have
completed all related Player Development requirements to-date. However, if a player has not completed her
Player Development requirements prior to taking the merited increase, then participation in what would
otherwise be a merited increase event is counted against her total allotment of Tournaments under the AER.
В·An 18-year-old may play an unlimited number of professional tournaments, Fed Cup and the WTA Finals.
The player will remain a full participant in Player Development until notified of graduation.
В·Mandatory Play: All players, regardless of age, who by ranking (including Special Rankings) qualify for
acceptance into the Main Draw of a Premier Mandatory Tournament (Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Beijing)
or the Main Draw of a Grand Slam will be entered automatically. A player who has reached her maximum
number of professional tournaments under the Age Eligibility Rule prior to such mandatory Tournaments
will not be allowed to play in the Mandatory Tournament and will be assessed a fine and/or receive zero
ranking points unless she meets the requirements for it to count in addition to her allotted number of
Tournaments.

WTA FINALS вЂ“ SINGAPORE
The BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC
Global will be hosted in Singapore until 2018, where the
Top 8 singles and Top 8 doubles teams will compete for a
$7 million purse. The state-of-the-art $1.3 billion Singapore
Sports Hub, located in the heart of the city, will host the
WTA Finals at the 7500-seat Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The WTA Finals also features WTA Future Stars, the Rising
Stars Invitational, WTA Legends exhibition matches,
concerts, and a daily fan festival open to the public.
WTA ELITE TROPHY - ZHUHAI
The WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai will feature Top 20 ranked
players in a singles and doubles round-robin format
competing for prize money of $2.15 million. The
tournament will be staged at the custom-designed,
state-of-the-art tennis center in Zhuhai, China from
2015-2019. The 12-player singles field will consist of
players ranked No.9 through 20 in the world, along
with one wildcard in a four-group round-robin format.
The winners of each respective group will advance to
the single-elimination stage of the event. Meanwhile,
the six-team doubles field will compete in a two-group
round-robin with the winner of each group advancing
to the final. The winner of the singles event will receive
700 WTA Ranking points.

вЂўIn 2003, the current round robin format feeding into a 4-woman single elimination draw returned to WTA
Finals for the first time since 1982.
вЂўThe singles and doubles competition will be played in a Round Robin format, with 4 players/teams competing
in each group during the first five days of competition. Each player/team meets the other players/team in
the group, with the top two in each group moving on to the semifinals. Each of the group winners meets the
runner-up in the other group in the semifinals. The winners of each semifinal meet in the championship match.
вЂўThe Top 8 ranked singles players in the WTA Rankings the week of October 25, 2015 will qualify for the WTA
Finals.
вЂўThe Road to Singapore Leaderboard on wtatennis.com serves as a ranking projection for the week of October
25, 2015, the Monday prior to the WTA Finals. The leaderboard includes points earned during the 2015 season.
вЂўThe Top 8 doubles teams will also compete in a Round Robin format; qualification will be determined by
the Road to Singapore team rankings with the Top 8 teams qualifying. Teams will count their best 11 results

As the world governing body of tennis, the
International Tennis Federation (ITF) is responsible for
every level of the sport including the regulation of
rules and the future development of the game. Based
in London, the ITF currently has 210 member nations
and six regional associations, which administer the
game in their respective areas, in close consultation
with the ITF.
The ITF is committed to promoting tennis around the
world and encouraging as many people as possible to
play the game. An estimated 60 million people enjoy
playing tennis in more than 200 countries worldwide,
making tennis one of the few truly global sports. The
breadth of appeal is appropriately reflected in the ITFвЂ™s
active involvement in a range of circuits including
lower level professional events, junior tennis, seniors
tennis, wheelchair tennis and beach tennis. Dedicated

During 2013, 551 ITF WomenвЂ™s Circuit tournaments
were organized in 61 countries worldwide, enabling
players to gain experience and earn the ranking points
necessary to enter WTA events. The ITF WomenвЂ™s
Circuit, which forms part of the ITF Pro Circuit, is the
vital link between junior tennis and the womenвЂ™s tour.
During 2013, the total amount of prize money
available on the Circuit was over $10 million.
All players who compete in ITF Pro Circuit tournaments
must register for annual IPIN Membership (an IPIN fee
is payable), giving them access to the IPIN Online
Service, which allows them to manage their playing

The ITF actively promotes the importance of
representing oneвЂ™s country whether at the Olympics
or within the team competition format. The menвЂ™s
Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and womenвЂ™s Fed Cup by

competitions in sport and most prized in the ITFвЂ™s
event portfolio. Both have a rich history and have
consistently attracted the best players from each
