G.O.Y.A. NEWS
Hello everybody! In the
past few months, our GOYA has
been active participating in many
great events and are expecting
many more to come. Just a recap
as to what we╒ve been doing in the
past few months:
In January and February:
? We were busy practicing
for the upcoming Sights &
Sounds festival in Westfield,
NJ on March 1, 2014. Sights
& Sounds is a competition in
which individuals and groups
can compete and showcase
their abilities in the arts.
? Group wise, we had a Greek
Dancing group, an American
Singing group, and a Choral
Speaking group. Many of us
performed individually in
other categories.
? In early February, our GOYA
attended the White-Out
Dance in Tenafly, NJ and the
Valentine╒s Dance in Union,
NJ. The White-Out Dance is
a dance that is a fundraiser
for cancer research, and it is a
dance in which GOYAns were
allowed to bring along friends
by Nikiforos Daniskas, Vice President
from school.
In March:
? The Sights & Sounds competition occurred on March 1. We
all had a great time and won
some awards.
? We also participated in our
parish╒s St. John Chrysostom
Oratorical Festival on March
29th.
? Our first place winners advanced to the Regional competition in Flemington, NJ,
where both Spyridoula and
Minas received Honorable
Mentions.
Congratulations to all who participated and on your accomplishments!
? For one of our Lenten activities, a group of GOYAns,
advisors and family members
took a road trip to Agia Skepi
Monastery in White Haven,
PA. We were given a tour of
the monastery by Sister Marina, helped in the bakery to
assemble boxes and attended
evening services at the end of
the day. It was a very enriching and fulfilling experience

Cyprus Taverna Night
Continued
The Parish Council and Philoptochos had their first Cyprus Taverna Night on Saturday, April 26,
2014. Many families and friends of our parishioners were in attendance for a buffet style Cypriot dinner and
dancing with live music by G-Avra Music Productions (George Liristis 908-316-4799). The room was filled
with ?parea?(gathering of friends), ?filoxenia? (hospitality), and ?kali orexi? (good appetite) with a variety of
Cypriot mezzedakia, main entrees and desserts. The purpose of our Event was to commemorate the 40 years
since the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus and to provide hope & support to troubled families and their children in Cyprus through a non-profit organization called the Cyprus Children╒s Fund, Inc. Guest speakers;
Vasilios Philippou, Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus and Savas Tsivicos, President and National
Chairman of the Cyprus Children╒s Fund joined our Event and shared their insights about Cyprus and we
also viewed a brief video detailing the Cyprus Children╒s Fund program. For more information; please visit,

May 3 we will be attending the Daughters District Luncheon at the Hanover Manor and on May 17 we are
hosting a dinner in honor of our two Past Presidents, Ida Stathakis (Zephyr) and Irene Wilcox (Amphitryon)and members with 10+ service. A flyer is included in this edition of the Cross. We welcome the family
of Ss. NCH to join us in honoring these two dedicated women.
The Eagle Rock AHEPAns and Daughters will jointly sponsor a trip to Ellis Island, this is open to friends
and family of the entire community. It is postponed for the moment, but we will be releasing more information and details soon.
We thank the friends and family of Ss. NCH for supporting our projects.
