On January 16, 2013, WARREN CARY GRAD
succumbed to a series of major medical
complications that followed back and heart
surgery. He was the son of the late MORTON
C. and RENA H.K. GRAD. He was a graduate
of Episcopal Academy (then located in
Merion, PA), where he was very athletic and
played on the baseball team. After graduation
from Widener University (in Chester, PA), he
entered his father’s Real Estate and investment business and shortly thereafter, upon
his father’s death, assumed full responsibility
for the company. He increased the assets of
that company, started his own real estate
business and was a successful business
man. A self-educated investor, he became
very successful and skillful and was never re
luctant to advise and assist friends and family
who sought his advice with investment and
real estate decisions. Since his early 30’s,
WARREN was a professional and highly
skilled sailor. He captained his own sailing
vessel, traveling from Nova Scotia or Maine
to the Carribean many times and participating
in many races and rallies. He also enjoyed
cooking and learning from friends how to
prepare tasty dishes. He loved beautiful art
and antiques, had considerable expertise in
interior decorating, was an avid gardener and
landscaper and enjoyed all types of music,
especially classical. All interests and talents
he acquired from his beloved mother. Furthermore, he was always Mr. Fix-it, enjoying
any challenge to fix cars, boats, hi-fi equipment, etc. In more recent years, he had become a racing car enthusiast, a passion he
had to give up as a consequence of a very serious auto accident. He and his ex-wife LYNN
HERSON also enjoyed traveling with family
and friends and welcomed many friends to
share their sailing experiences with them. Approximately 5 years ago, they bought a second home at Lakewood Ranch (near Sarasota, FL), where he has been residing for the
last year and a half with his beloved goldendoodle Buddy. He is survived by his devoted
sister, DR. CHRISTINE GRAD (of King of
Prussia) with whom he had been residing
since his August heart surgery. Successfully
completing cardiac rehab, they both returned
to his Florida home in early December. They
spent a great deal of time together, enjoying
nature, long walks, good food, each other’s
company and that of their two dogs and
friends. He is also survived by his ex-wife,
LYNN HERSON, who resides in their former
home in West Chester, PA. Memorial Services were held at Temple Har Zion on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Contributions may be
made to the Morton & Rena Grad Scholarship @ Jefferson Medical College, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Lankenau Hospital (in
honor of Dr. James’ Burke’s many years of

REBECCA KULIK HERMAN died peacefully at
her home on December 24, 2012. REBECCA
lived a life of boundless devotion to her family, friends, and her faith. Born in Philadelphia, she was one of six siblings in a
close-knit family. After graduating from high
school, she moved to Washington D.C.,
where she lived with her cousins, and worked
as a secretary. Her stay in D.C. was cut short
when her father died suddenly, and she immediately returned to Philadelphia to be with
her mother. There she continued to work,
and also volunteered with the U.S.O., dancing
with servicemen and organizing events.
When REBECCA first met her future husband
AL on a blind date, she thought that he was
“good-looking” and “very kind.” They soon
realized that they wanted to spend their lives
together, and married on November 4, 1951.
They remained happily married until AL's
death in January 2011.
Ever since she was a child, REBECCA embraced Judaism and its rituals. She joyfully
celebrated all the Jewish holidays and traditions. She was a life-long member of Hadassah and, for decades, she served as Secretary of the Pennypack Park chapter. She also
was a dedicated and active member of her
synagogue’s Sisterhood.
All her life, Rebecca created and maintained
wonderful friendships. When her children
grew older, she returned to work. For years,
she organized bus trips for her co-workers
and friends to see Broadway musicals. She
adored musical theater, and was known to
sing along during the performances. She was
an independent, outgoing, and kind person,
who deeply appreciated the smallest kindness as if it were a great gift.
REBECCA generously gave of her time, energy, and love to her family, including her
husband, AL, daughter SANDI and son-in-law
DON, son RICK and daughter-in-law HOPE,
and her grandchildren, MARC, BROOKE and
RYAN. As the years went by, she faced many
physical and emotional challenges, but rarely
complained and was always optimistic about
living each day.
She enjoyed playing a competitive game of
cards with family members, and also watching Dancing with the Stars, and anything with
Regis Philbin or David Letterman.
REBECCA was a beautiful person, inside and
out. She had a lovely smile, and loved to
laugh. Her light shined brightly on all who
knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF
HER FOURTH YAHRZEIT
our lives go on without you
But nothing is the same
We have to hide our heartaches
When someone speaks your name
Sad are the hearts that love you
Silent the tears that fall
Living our lives without you
is the hardest part of all
You did so many things for us
Your heart was kind and true
And when we needed someone
We could always count on you
The special times will not return
When we were all together
But with the love within our hearts
You will be with us forever
We love and miss you
Love Always,
