Borax decahydrate contains 10 moles of water. It is
stated also as sodium tetraborate decahydrate,
disodium tetraborate decahydrate, and borax 10
moles. Its chemical formula is Na2B4O7.10H2O and it is
in white powder form and soluble in water. The
product consists of more than 99 % sodium
tetraborate decahydrate.
Some Applications and Benefits Agriculture
Agriculture
Boron is an element which should be in soil needed for growing and developing plant. Borax
Decahydrate is used in agriculture for increasing efficiency and quality of yield.
Soap and Detergent
Borax Decahydrate is used in detergents because of water softening and disinfectant
property.
Cosmetics
Borax Decahydrate is used in many products of cosmetics such as foundation cream,
concealer, lipstick, nail polish in daily life because it gives extra properties to them like
softness, adhesion and durability.
Flame Retardants
Flame retardants prevent inflaming and spreading of flame. Borates are used in different
materials as flame retardant. Borates cover materials by melting and prevent burning of

flame retardants in cellulosic materials by treatment.
Energy Storage
The chemical mixture of sodium sulfate and water with borax decahydrate in thermal storage
battery stores solar energy during the day and it can be used for heating at night.
Ceramic Industry
Borax Decahydrate is used as raw material especially the enamel for the ceramic industry.
Metallurgy
Dissolution property of Borax Decahydrate in metal oxides is used in metallurgy. The oxidation
of surface is prevented by covering iron surfaces with Borax Decahydrate.
