ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ
Η αστική μη κερδοσκοπική εταιρεία ECOWEEK φέρνει κοντά για άλλη μια
χρονιά νέους αρχιτέκτονες, σχεδιαστές και αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου από όλο τον
κόσμο για το Πολιτιστικό – Οικολογικό – Αρχιτεκτονικό γεγονός της χρονιάς.

Μεταξύ αυτών Αγγλία, Γερμανία, Ιταλία, Ισραήλ, Ιράν, Κύπρος, Πολωνία,
Πορτογαλία, Ρουμανία, Σερβία, Σουηδία και Τουρκία, ενώ keynote ομιλητές θα
είναι ο βραβευμένος αρχιτέκτονας από τη Γερμανία με έργα στη Burkina Faso,
Diebedo Francis Kere, έργα του οποίου εκτέθηκαν πρόσφατα στο Μουσείο
Μοντέρνας Τέχνης της Νέας Υόρκης – σε συνεργασία με το Ινστιτούτο Γκαίτε - και
ο βραβευμένος αρχιτέκτονας τοπίου George Hargreaves από την Αγγλία – σε
συνεργασία με το British Council. Στο πλαίσιο της ECOWEEK 2011 θα
φιλοξενηθεί στο Γαλλικό Ινστιτούτο η διεθνής έκθεση «Global Award for
Sustainable Architecture» σε συνεργασία με την Cité de l'Architecture et du
Patrimoine της Γαλλίας.
ΣΥΝΟΠΤΙΚΟ ΔΕΛΤΙΟΥ ΤΥΠΟΥ
ECOWEEK 2011: Οικολογία & Συνάντηση Πολιτισμών στη Θεσσαλονίκη
Από τις 28 Μαρτίου μέχρι τις 3 Απριλίου θα πραγματοποιηθεί για πρώτη φορά
στη Θεσσαλονίκη το συνέδριο και εργαστήρια σχεδιασμού ECOWEEK, κατά τη διάρκεια
του οποίου 300 νέοι αρχιτέκτονες, σχεδιαστές και αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου από 16 χώρες θα
προτείνουν πρωτότυπα σχέδια βιοκλιματικής δόμησης και οικολογικής ανάπλασης
περιοχών καθώς και προτάσεις περιβαλλοντικής αρχιτεκτονικής και αρχιτεκτονικής
τοπίου.
Φέτος, η θεματολογία της ECOWEEK είναι οι αστικές κοινότητες και η ‘πράσινη’
αρχιτεκτονική και θα κινηθεί γύρω από τέσσερις άξονες: τον σχεδιασμό ενός οικολογικού
κτιρίου μηδενικών ρύπων, τις οικολογικές παρεμβάσεις σε υπάρχοντα κτίρια, τις
προτάσεις για αναμόρφωση σημείων της πόλης με οικολογική αρχιτεκτονική και
σχεδιασμό τοπίου και τον σχεδιασμό βιοκλιματικού κτιρίου για χρήση από οργανισμούς,
ή ΜΚΟ.
«Η στόχευση είναι να διακινηθεί η ιδέα της οικολογικής δόμησης και της
καλύτερης ενεργειακής θωράκισης των κτιρίων, που καταναλώνουν περίπου το 40% της
συνολικής ενέργειας στη χώρα μας. Με τον βιοκλιματικό σχεδιασμό και με οικολογικά
υλικά αυτό το ποσοστό μπορεί να μειωθεί σημαντικά, όπως και η εξάρτησή μας από μη
ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας», δήλωσε ο ιδρυτής και Πρόεδρος της ECOWEEK,
αρχιτέκτονας Ηλίας Μεσσίνας.
Η διοργάνωση πραγματοποιείται από την αστική - μη κερδοσκοπική εταιρεία
ECOWEEK, που ιδρύθηκε το 2005 με στόχο την ενημέρωση και ευαισθητοποίηση σε
θέματα περιβάλλοντος, υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης, των Υπουργείων
Περιβάλλοντος, Υποδομών και Εξωτερικών και το Ευρωπαϊκό Ινστιτούτο Δικαίου,

Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογίας και σε συνεργασία με ελληνικά και ξένα μελετητικά γραφεία,
ινστιτούτα και ειδικούς επιστήμονες.
Οι εκδηλώσεις θα διεξαχθούν σε διάφορες αίθουσες της Θεσσαλονίκης: η τελετή
έναρξης θα γίνει στο κινηματοθέατρο «Ολύμπιον», όπου θα πραγματοποιηθεί μεταξύ
άλλων και ομιλία του γνωστού βραβευμένου αρχιτέκτονα Φρανσίς Κερέ από το
Βερολίνο. Οι παρουσιάσεις των προτάσεων στο «Ιωάννης Βελλίδης», με τη συμμετοχή
πάνω από 300 επιστημόνων, μεταπτυχιακών φοιτητών και καταξιωμένων αρχιτεκτόνων,
από 16 χώρες. Στο Γαλλικό Ινστιτούτο θα φιλοξενηθεί διεθνής έκθεση οικολογικής
δόμησης “Global Award for Sustainable Architecture” και στο Ινστιτούτο Γκαίτε θα
φιλοξενηθεί πάνελ για την αρχιτεκτονική, το κλίμα και τον τόπο. Την τελευταία ημέρα
προγραμματίζεται ξενάγηση των ξένων επισκεπτών σε μουσεία και αξιοθέατα της πόλης.
Η ECOWEEK θα φιλοξενηθεί φέτος, μετά την ολοκλήρωσή της στη Θεσσαλονίκη,
σε αντίστοιχες διοργανώσεις στη Μέση Ανατολή (Ισραήλ-Παλαιστίνη), στην Ιταλία
(Μιλάνο) και στη Ρουμανία.

ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ECOWEEK
Η αστική μη-κερδοσκοπική εταιρία ξεκίνησε τη δράση της στην Αίγινα το
2005 με σκοπό την περιβαλλοντική ενημέρωση και ευαισθητοποίηση και την
προώθηση των αρχών της αειφορίας και αξιοβίωτης ολοκληρωμένης ανάπτυξης.
Από το 2007 ξεκίνησε δράση σε όλη την Ελλάδα και κάλεσε τον Al Gore να
μιλήσει στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής με το Megaron Plus και τον εξερευνητή της
Ανταρκτικής Robert Swan να μιλήσει στο Μουσείου Μπενάκη σε συνεργασία με
το British Council. Το 2008 η ECOWEEK ξεκίνησε δράση και στην Κύπρο σε
συνεργασία με το Δήμο Λάρνακας και το MKC City College και από το 2007 η
ECOWEEK διοργάνωσε δεκάδες προβολές βραβευμένων οικολογικών
ντοκιμαντέρ, όπως η «Μια Ενοχλητική Αλήθεια» με τον Αλ Γκορ και «Η 11 η Ώρα»
με τον Λεονάρντο Ντι Κάπριο, σε Γυμνάσια και Λύκεια στην Ελλάδα και την
Κύπρο. Το 2009 η ECOWEEK συνδιοργάνωσε συνέδριο για ‘πράσινα’ κτίρια στο
SCE College of Engineering και τη στήριξη του Υπουργείου Περιβάλλοντος του
Ισραήλ.
Η ECOWEEK φιλοξενεί κάθε χρόνο τους σημαντικότερους αρχιτέκτονες,
αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου και σχεδιαστές στον κόσμο για να παρουσιάσουν το έργο
τους και για να εμπνεύσουν τους νεώτερους. Μεταξύ άλλων, η ECOWEEK έχει
φιλοξενήσει τους Shigeru Ban, Ken Yeang, Bjarke Ingels, Rural Studio,
WHITE Architects, το γραφείο του Sir Richard Rogers Rogers Stirk Harbour
Architects, Julie Bargmann και έχουν συντονίσει τα εργαστήρια της ECOWEEK

Η ECOWEEK ΣΤΗ ΜΕΣΗ ΑΝΑΤΟΛΗ
Το 2010 η ECOWEEK διοργάνωσε το πρώτο της συνέδριο και εργαστήρια
στη Μέση Ανατολή με θέμα ‘πράσινη’ Αρχιτεκτονική, Κοινότητα και Αειφορία, με
τη συμμετοχή αρχιτεκτόνων, φοιτητών και νέων αρχιτεκτόνων από το Ισραήλ και
την Παλαιστίνη, την Ευρώπη και τις ΗΠΑ. Το 2010 τα εργαστήρια σχεδιασμού της
ECOWEEK εστίασαν για πρώτη φορά σε πραγματικά έργα, προσφέροντας
σχεδιαστικές προτάσεις σε πραγματικούς αποδέκτες, όπως Κέντρο Παλαιστίνιων
Γυναικών SHOROUQ, το Κέντρο IPRI Ισραηλινο-παλαιστινιακών οργανώσεων
για την ειρήνη και το Κοινοτικό Κέντρο της Αιθιοπικής Κοινότητας στην έρημο
Νέγκεβ. Οι φοιτητές είχαν επίσης την εμπειρία να σχεδιάσουν πραγματικά έργα,
όπως οικολογικές αστικές παρεμβάσεις στην πόλη Μπεερσέβα στην έρημο
Νέγκεβ και στη Biennale της πόλης Μπατ Γιαμ δίπλα στο Τελ Αβίβ.
Η ECOWEEK προγραμματίζει το επόμενο διεθνές συνέδριο και
εργαστήρια σχεδιασμού μεταξύ Ισραηλινών, Παλαιστινίων και Ευρωπαίων
φοιτητών και νέων αρχιτεκτόνων, σχεδιαστών και αρχιτεκτόνων τοπίου, σε
συνεργασία, μεταξύ άλλων, με το Holon Institute of Technolgy, το Ινστιτούτο
‘Αραβά’, το Πανεπιστήμιο του Τελ Αβίβ, τη νέα Παλαιστινιακή πόλη Rawabi δίπλα
στη Ραμάλλα και τις Σχολές Σχεδιασμού ΑΚΤΟ.
Η ECOWEEK ΣΤΟ ΜΙΛΑΝΟ
Η ECOWEEK συμμετέχει στο Salone del Mobile του Μιλάνο την Τρίτη 12
Απριλίου, με το πρόγραμμα ECCO ECOWEEK σε συνεργασία με το
αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο Monostudio. Στη συνέχεια προγραμματίζει στις 12-18

Σεπτεμβρίου 2011 διεθνές συνέδριο και εργαστήρια σχεδιασμού για νέους
αρχιτέκτονες, σχεδιαστές και αρχιτέκτονες τοπίου με τη συνεργασία, μεταξύ
άλλων, του Politecnico di Milano.
ΤΟ ΔΙΚΤΥΟ ECOWEEK.ΝΕΤ ΣΤΟ ΔΙΑΔΙΚΤΥΟ
Από τον Απρίλιο 2011 οι συμμετέχοντες της ECOWEEK, των
εργαστηρίων, συνεδρίων, οι ομιλητές και ειδικοί, θα έχουν τον (ιστο)χώρο για να
συναντιούνται, να ανταλλάσουν νέα και ιδέες, να προβάλουν τη δουλειά τους, να
συμμετέχουν στις εκδηλώσεις της ECOWEEK και να έχουν ειδικά προνόμια από
τους συνεργάτες (partners) της ECOWEEK. Περισσότερες πληροφορίες θα

Η ECOWEEK 2011 ΣΤΗ ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΗ
Το αρχιτεκτονικό, πολιτιστικό και οικολογικό ‘happening’ σχεδιασμού,
αρχιτεκτονικής, αστικών παρεμβάσεων και αρχιτεκτονικής τοπίου θα
πραγματοποιηθεί για πρώτη φορά στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Θα ξεκινήσει στις 28
Μαρτίου 2011 και θα διαρκέσει μια εβδομάδα. Η ECOWEEK 2011 θα εστιάσει
στις αστικές κοινότητες και την ‘πράσινη’ Αρχιτεκτονική. Το συνέδριο τελεί υπό
την αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών, του ΥΠΕΚΑ, του Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης
και του Ευρωπαϊκού Ινστιτούτου Δικαίου, Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογίας.
Διοργανωτής του συνεδρίου είναι η ελληνική διεθνής ΜΚΟ ECOWEEK
που ιδρύθηκε το 2005 από τον αρχιτέκτονα Δρ. Χωροταξίας και σύμβουλο
περιβάλλοντος Ηλία Μεσσίνα. Το συνέδριο θα φιλοξενηθεί σε πολιτιστικούς
χώρους της Θεσσαλονίκης, όπως το «Ολύμπιο», «Ιωάννης Βελλίδης», Ινστιτούτο
Γκαίτε, Γαλλικό Ινστιτούτο, ΙΑΝΟΣ και ΝΟΗΣΙΣ, ενώ τα 37 εργαστήρια
σχεδιασμού θα φιλοξενηθούν στις αίθουσες των Σχολών ΑΚΤΟ και σε γραφεία
αρχιτεκτόνων, αρχιτεκτόνων τοπίου και μηχανικών σε όλη τη Θεσσαλονίκη, που
θα τα καθοδηγήσουν.

Non-profit non-governmental organization ECOWEEK brings together again this
year young and established architects, designers and landscape architects from
around the world, for the Cultural – Ecological – Architectural Happening of the
year. This year in Thessaloniki!
The international conference and workshops ECOWEEK 2011: Urban
Communities and ‘Green’ Architecture has the participation of more than 300
students and young professionals (architects, designers and landscape
architects) from 16 countries, including England, Germany, Italy, Israel, Iran,
Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, and Turkey. Keynote
speakers are award-winning architect from Germany with projects in Burkina
Faso, Diebedo Francis Kere, whose work was recently exhibited at the Museum
of Modern Art in New York – with the co-operation and support of Goethe Institute
– and the award-winning landscape architect George Hargreaves from the UK –
with the co-operation and support of the British Council. ECOWEEK 2011 will
also include the exhibition “Global Award for Sustainable Architecture” from
France, with the co-operation of the French Institute in Thessaloniki, which will
also host the exhibition, and the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine in France.

ECOWEEK 2011: Ecology & the Meeting of Cultures in Thessaloniki
From March 28 to April 3 an important event will take place in Thessaloniki for the first
time: the international conference and design workshops of ECOWEEK, where more
than 300 young professionals (architects, designers, landscape architects) from 16
countries, will gather to design ‘green’ buildings, ‘green’ retrofits to existing buildings,
‘green’ urban interventions and landscape design projects in the city.
ECOWEEK 2011 is titled ‘Urban Communities and ‘Green’ Architecture’, and will include
four main themes: the design of a passive solar house of zero emissions; the design of
‘green’ retrofit interventions in existing buildings; the ‘green’ design of urban
interventions within the city fabric and landscape design proposals in the city, and the
design of a ‘green’ building that will benefit a community or NGO.
“We aim to promote the principles of ‘green’ buildings and the energy upgrading of
buildings, which consume more than 40% of the produced energy. With passive solar
design and the choice of ecological materials, we can reduce considerably our
dependence on non-renewable energy source”, comments the founder and Chairman of
ECOWEEK architect Elias Messinas.

ECOWEEK 2011 is organized by Greek international NGO ECOWEEK, which was
established in 2005 with the mission to raise environmental awareness. ECOWEEK
2011 takes place under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of
Environment of Greece, the City of Thessaloniki and the European Institute for Law,
Science and Technology, and with the collaboration of Greek and foreign architectural,
design and landscape design firms, institutes and experts.
ECOWEEK 2011 events will take place in different locations throughout the city of
Thessaloniki: the opening will take place at ‘Olympion’ where the keynote lecture of
award-winning architect from Berlin Diebedo Francis Kere will take place. The
workshops proposals will be presented and discussed by experts from Greece and
abroad at ‘Ioannis Vellidis’ hall with the participation of more than 300 young
professionals and graduate students from 16 countries. The French Institute of
Thessaloniki will host the international ‘green’ building exhibition “Global Award for
Sustainable Architecture” from France, and Goethe Institute will host a panel discussion
on Designing with Climate and Place. The last day of ECOWEEK 2011 is dedicated to
tours in museums and landmarks of the city.
After Thessaloniki, ECOWEEK is planning international conferences and workshops in
the Middle East (Israel &West Bank/Palestinian Authority), Italy (Milano) and Romania.

ABOUT ECOWEEK
ECOWEEK started its activity in Aegina in 2005. Its mission is to raise public
awareness on environmental issues and to promote the principles of
sustainability. In 2007 ECOWEEK started activity throughout Greece and invited
Al Gore to lecture at Megaron Plus, and UK Explorer Robert Swan to speak at
Benaki Museum with the British Council. In 2008 ECOWEEK began activity in
Cyprus in co-operation with the Municipality of Larnaca and MKC City College.
Since 2007 ECOWEEK has organized tens of screenings of award-winning
environmental documentaries, such as “An Inconvenient Truth” with Al Gore and
“The 11th Hour” with Leonardo DiCaprio in High Schools throughout Greece and
Cyprus. In 2009 ECOWEEK co-organized a conference on ‘Green’ Civil
Engineering with SCE College of Engineering and the support of the Ministry of
Environment of Israel.
ECOWEEK invites each year of the most important architects, landscape
architects and designers in the world to present their work and to inspire younger
professionals. Among others, ECOWEEK has invited Shigeru Ban, Ken Yeang,
Bjarke Ingels, Rural Studio, WHITE Architects, the office of Sir Richard
Rogers Rogers Stirk Harbour Architects, Julie Bargmann and among the

ECOWEEK IN THE MIDDLE EAST
In 2010 ECOWEEK organized its first international conference and design
workshops in the Middle East named ‘Green Architecture, Community and
Sustainability’ with the participation of architects, designers, landscape architects,
students, and young professionals from Israel and Palestine, Europe and the US.
In 2010 the ECOWEEK workshops focused for the first time on real projects for
local communities, such as the renovation of the SHOROUQ Palestinian Women
Center, IPCRI - the Israeli Palestinian Peace Center, and the Community Center
for the Ethiopian community in the Negev desert. The workshops also prepared
ecological interventions in the city Beersheva in the Negev desert and urban
landscape proposals for the Biennale of Bat Yam near Tel Aviv.
ECOWEEK is presently planning its next Middle East conference and design
workshops to take place in co-operation between Israeli, Palestinian and
European students and young professionals – architects, designers and
landscape designers - with the cooperation, among others, of the Holon Institute
of Technology, Arava Institute, Tel Aviv University, the planners of the new
Palestinian city Rawabi near Ramallah, and the AKTO Design School in Greece.
ECOWEEK IN MILANO, ITALY
In April 2011 ECOWEEK will participate in the Salone del Mobile in Milano with
the program ‘ECCO ECOWEEK’ in co-operation with the architectural studio
Monostudio. In September 12-18, 2011, ECOWEEK will organize for the first time

ECOWEEK 2011 IN THESSALONIKI
The architectural, cultural and ecological ‘happening’ in design, architecture,
urban interventions and landscape architect will take place in March 28-April 3,
2011 for the first time in Thessaloniki. ECOWEEK will focus on urban
communities and ‘green’ architecture, and will take place under the auspices of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, the City of Thessaloniki,
and the European Institute of Law, Science and Technology.
ECOWEEK was established in 2005 by architect and environmental consultant
Elias Messinas. The conference will be hosted in venues around Thessaloniki,
among them OLYMPIO, IOANNIS VELLIDIS, Goethe Institute, French Institute,
IANOS and NOESIS. During ECOWEEK 37 design workshop teams will be
hosted in AKTO Design School and offices of architects, designers and
landscape architects throughout Thessaloniki, who will lead them.
