Η ετήσια έκθεση των αποφοίτων του Τμήματος Εικαστικών Τεχνών
της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών στον εκθεσιακό χώρο «Νίκος
Κεσσανλής» παρουσιάζει τα έργα, επισημαίνει τις τάσεις και τους
εκφραστικούς χαρακτήρες, και καταγράφει τα τελικά αποτελέσματα
της εικαστικής εκπαίδευσης και της καλλιτεχνικής έρευνας που ανέπτυξαν οι απόφοιτοι στη διάρκεια των σπουδών τους.
Από την ίδια τη φύση της, τη λειτουργική της δομή αλλά και την ιστορία της, η σχολή παραμένει κατά κύριο λόγο εργαστηριακή. Στα έργα
αυτά των αποφοίτων είναι έκδηλη η εκπαιδευτική συμβολή των
Καθηγητών και του Διδακτικού Προσωπικού των καλλιτεχνικών
εργαστηρίων. Παράλληλα, χάρη στο ενιαίο πρόγραμμα σπουδών, το
σύνολο των διδασκόντων επενεργεί διαμορφωτικά στη συγκρότηση
των φοιτητών, προσφέροντας μια ευρύτερη και ολοκληρωμένη εικαστική παιδεία.
Από αυτή την άποψη, η έκθεση λειτουργεί ως συνοπτική αλλά και
συνεκτική εικόνα των διπλωματικών εργασιών και των εκπαιδευτικών
αποτελεσμάτων του Τμήματος. Με δεδομένο τον θετικό και ελπιδοφόρο χαρακτήρα του, ο θεσμός της ετήσιας έκθεσης αποφοίτων
αποτελεί πάντα σημείο και στιγμή απολογισμού, αποτίμησης και κριτικής του έργου που επιτελείται και των αλλαγών που συντελούνται
σε μια περίοδο που «το αυτονόητο της τέχνης έχει χαθεί».1
Η Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. αποτελούσε ανέκαθεν έναν καλλιτεχνικό εκπαιδευτικό
θεσμό ο οποίος, πέραν του στενά εκπαιδευτικού του ρόλου, λειτουργεί ευρύτερα ως ένα ενεργό θερμοκήπιο καλλιέργειας και ανάπτυξης
των εικαστικών τεχνών στον τόπο μας. Είναι γνωστό ότι στην Ελλάδα
η τέχνη, το έργο, ο καλλιτέχνης, υπάρχουν ερήμην των πάντων, χωρίς
μια σταθερή και ολοκληρωμένη πολιτική στήριξης της καλλιτεχνικής
έκφρασης, χωρίς διαμορφωμένους σταθερούς καλλιτεχνικούς
θεσμούς. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η θέση της Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. αναπληρώνει έως
ένα βαθμό ελλείψεις και προσλαμβάνει μια διευρυμένη και βαρύνουσα σημασία για τους νέους καλλιτέχνες, κάτι που διατηρείται και
μετά την αποφοίτησή τους, σε βάθος χρόνου.

Με την ευκαιρία αυτή, να ευχαριστήσουμε εκ μέρους της Σχολής
όλους τους αποφοίτους για τα χρόνια και τις κοινές εμπειρίες που
ζήσαμε μαζί. Θέλουμε από καρδιάς να ευχηθούμε στους νέους καλλιτέχνες απόφοιτους της Σχολής δημιουργική συνέχεια, αντοχή στις
νέες δοκιμασίες της δουλειάς και της ζωής, επιτυχία και γόνιμη εξέλιξη στο έργο τους.
Είναι ωστόσο δύσκολο να αγνοήσει κανείς τις παρούσες συνθήκες
στις οποίες ζούμε και τις δυσκολίες που διαμορφώνονται, επηρεάζοντας ιδιαίτερα το ευαίσθητο πεδίο της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας
και της υποδοχής του έργου. («Ποιος νοιάζεται για την ελληνική
τέχνη σήμερα;» 2) Διανύουμε μια περίοδο μεγάλης αστάθειας και
γενικευμένης οικονομικής και κοινωνικής κρίσης. Σε αυτό το ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές περιβάλλον, η Ελλάδα δυστυχώς δοκιμάζεται από
μια εξελισσόμενη οικονομική κρίση, με βαθιά ύφεση που προδιαγράφει δυσκολίες, τουλάχιστον για το άμεσο μέλλον. Η οικονομική
περιστολή μάς οδηγεί σήμερα σε απώλειες, ταυτόχρονα όμως οι
δυσκολίες αυτές προσδίνουν στο παρόν, ίσως για πρώτη φορά ξανά,
μετά από χρόνια και μια βίωση Ιστορίας. Γιατί «μια χώρα που έχει
συγκλονιστεί από μεγάλα γεγονότα μπορεί και να αποκτήσει μια
συνείδηση που θα της επιτρέπει να σκέπτεται με έναν καθολικότερο τρόπο».3 Ίσως αυτό να αποτελέσει για τη νεότερη γενιά τον
σημαντικότερο παράγοντα επαναπροσδιορισμού, αναστοχασμού
και ανανέωσης της καλλιτεχνικής σκηνής. «Κάθε δυσκολία που καταφέρνουμε τελικά να ξεπεράσουμε, κατανοώντας τους όρους και τα
όρια ενός συστήματος που μας οδήγησε εδώ, δεν μας κάνει απαραιτήτως πιο πλούσιους, μας κάνει όμως πιο δυνατούς».

The annual exhibition of the Department of Fine Arts of the Athens
School of Fine Arts (A.S.F.A.), at the “Nikos Kessanlis” exhibition
venue, presents the graduating class's artworks, highlights the new
artistic trends and current ways of artistic expression, and documents the final results of the training in visual arts undergone and of
the research in the art field performed by the graduates during their
studies.
By its distinctive nature, its operational structure and long history,
the training provided by the A.S.F.A. has a workshop-like aspect and
remains mainly focused on the work carried out in its various studios. The guiding hand of the Professors and the Teaching Staff of the
aforementioned studios is evident in the graduates‘ artworks hereby
exhibited. At the same time, however, thanks to a common curriculum for all students, the School's entire Teaching Staff contributes to
the student's formation, offering a broader, all-encompassing education in the field of visual arts.
In this respect, the exhibition offers a succinct yet comprehensive
picture of not only the graduates’ diploma projects but also of the
Department's overall educational results. Apart from its evidently
positive and promising nature, the graduating class's annual exhibition is always an opportunity to “make the point", to critically evaluate the work carried out and apprehend the changes occurring at
times when "nothing concerning art is self-evident any more".
The A.S.F.A. has always been an educational and art institution
which, apart from its literal training role, more generally serves as an
active "greenhouse" for cultivating and developing the visual arts in
our country. It is well known that in Greece, Art, the work of art and
the artist exist on their own, without any consistent, comprehensive
policy of supporting the artistic expression, without any stable, wellestablished art institutions. In this context, the A.S.F.A. is trying its
best to meet, to a certain degree, the existing shortages, and its posi-

tion has an even greater and broader significance for new artists,
long after their graduation.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank, on behalf of the
entire School, all our students for the experiences we lived together
all these years. We would like to wholeheartedly wish to these new
artists, the A.S.F.A. graduates, a future full of creation, patience and
endurance when facing the new challenges expecting them in their
life and work alike, a fruitful evolution in their work, and a successful
career.
Under the current circumstances, however, it is impossible to ignore
the new difficulties presented, which have a particular impact on the
sensitive field of artistic creation and art reception (“Who Cares
About Greek Art Today?"). We are living in times of great instability,
of a generalized economic and social crisis. In today's european and
international environment, Greece, alas, is suffering an ongoing economic crisis, a deep recession unavoidably leading to new difficulties, at least in the near future. The necessary financial cut-downs is
our loss of today, however such hardships may also enable us at the
present -for the first time, after so long- to actually feel that “we are
living History". After all, "a country that has been shaken by great
events may gain a conscience leading to a more universal way of
thinking". This may be, for the new generation, the main drive for
reevaluating, rethinking and renewing the artistic scene. "Each difficulty that we are able to overcome, understanding the terms and
the limits of the system that brought us here, does not necessarily
make us richer, but it makes us stronger for sure“.

Ο αριστοτελικός ορισμός της Πόλεως ως άριστης πολιτικής κοινότητας, αρθρώνεται μέσω της διαφοράς του να ζεις (ζην) και του να
ζεις καλά (ευ ζην). «Γεννιέται για το ζην αλλά υπάρχει για το ευ ζην»
(Αριστ. 1252 b, 30). Σήμερα επικρατεί η «αίσθηση» ότι το διακύβευμα είναι κάτι εντελώς άλλο, ότι είναι η ίδια η βιολογική ζωή.
Ποια είναι η ανάγκη του «αισθητικού βίου», ποια η ανάγκη των
ανθρωπιστικών σπουδών και της καλλιτεχνικής εκπαίδευσης εντέλει;
Οι σπουδές στην Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. Αθηνών δεν είναι ένα «πενταετές Σάββατο»
απραγίας και χαλαρότητας˙ η έκθεση των έργων των τελειοφοίτων
είναι μια ένδειξη της εν-εργο-ποίησής τους. Έργο τους δεν είναι η
εκδήλωση μιας απλής δύναμης, μιας ικανότητας, μιας κλίσης, αλλά
ο αποφασιστικός αγώνας, η άσκηση της ικανότητας – της κλίσης.

The Aristotelian definition of “Polis” as the optimum political society is articulated through the distinction between living (life) and
living well (good life). “It comes to be for the sake of life, it exists
for the sake of the good life” (Aristotle 1252 b, 30). Today, the prevailing understanding (“aesthesis”) is that mere life is at stake. Is
there a need for an “aesthetic life”, is there a need for Humanities
and Art Education eventually?
Studying at A.S.F.A. is not a “five-year weekend” of idleness and
relaxation. The final-year students’ exhibition reveals their works
of art as “works of act”. Their work is not the manifestation of
their abilities, skills and talents, but the decisive endeavor, the
exercise of skills and talents.

ΙΔΡΥΣΗ – ΣΤΟΧΟΙ
Η ιστορία της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών είναι σχεδόν ισόχρονη με
την ιστορία του Νεοελληνικού Κράτους και αρχίζει με την ίδρυση του
«Σχολείου των Τεχνών» στην Αθήνα το 1837. Το Σχολείο των Τεχνών
δέχτηκε στη δεκαετία του 1850 δύο σημαντικές δωρεές «για να κτιστεί εν
Αθήναις ένα λαμπρό Πολυτεχνείο, όπου να διδάσκονται όλαι αι βάναυσαι
και ωραίαι τέχναι», από τους Νικόλαο Στουρνάρη και Μιχαήλ Τοσίτσα. Το
1860 η σύζυγος του Μιχαήλ, Ελένη Τοσίτσα, δώρισε στο Ίδρυμα το οικόπεδο όπου θα κτιζόταν αργότερα το νέο Πολυτεχνείο στην οδό Πατησίων.
Σήμερα η Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών, ως αυτοδιοικούμενο Ανώτατο
Εκπαιδευτικό Ίδρυμα (Νομικό Πρόσωπο Δημοσίου Δικαίου), αναπτύσσει τη δραστηριότητά της με την εποπτεία του Κράτους. Σκοπός
της είναι να καλλιεργεί τις καλλιτεχνικές δεξιότητες των φοιτητών, να
τους παρέχει τις αναγκαίες θεωρητικές και πρακτικές γνώσεις γύρω από
τις εικαστικές τέχνες μέσω της διδασκαλίας και της έρευνας, και να
συμβάλλει παράλληλα στην κοινωνική και πολιτιστική ανάπτυξη του
τόπου.
EΔΡΑ
Στην οδό Πατησίων 42 στεγάζονται η Πρυτανεία, οι Διοικητικές Υπηρεσίες του Ιδρύματος, η Επιτροπή Ερευνών, και το Αυτοτελές Τμήμα Πινακοθήκης, Φωτογραφικού Αρχείου και Ντοκουμέντων.
Στην οδό Πειραιώς 256 στεγάζονται όλα τα Εργαστήρια, το Κέντρο
Διαχείρισης Δικτύων, η Βιβλιοθήκη, το Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών
Σπουδών «Εικαστικών Τεχνών», το Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών
«Ψηφιακές Μορφές Τέχνης», καθώς επίσης οι αίθουσες θεωρητικών μαθημάτων και προβολών, οι αίθουσες θεάτρου και κινηματογράφου, το
εστιατόριο και ο εκθεσιακός χώρος «Νίκος Κεσσανλής».

ΤΟΥ ΑΚΑΔΗΜΑΪΚΟΥ ΕΤΟΥΣ 2009-2010
Η Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. από το 1988 ανέπτυξε συνεργασίες και συμμετέχει ενεργά
στα Ευρωπαϊκά Προγράμματα Erasmus που αφορούν στην κινητικότητα των φοιτητών και του διδακτικού προσωπικού, καθώς και σε εικαστικά προγράμματα σε συνεργασία με 56 Ιδρύματα-Σχολές Τέχνης σε
όλη την Ευρώπη.
Κατά το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2009-2010 στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος
μετακινήθηκαν και φοίτησαν στην Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. 42 φοιτητές από αντίστοιχες ευρωπαϊκές Σχολές Τέχνης, και συγχρόνως 25 Έλληνες φοιτητές της Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. φοίτησαν σε αντίστοιχες Σχολές της Ευρώπης.
Στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος ανταλλαγής μελών Δ.Ε.Π. μετακινήθηκαν και δίδαξαν σε συνεργαζόμενα Πανεπιστήμια της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης ένα μέλος του διδακτικού προσωπικού και φιλοξενήθηκαν στην
Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. επτά Καθηγητές από Πανεπιστήμια του εξωτερικού.

Συμμετοχή της Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. στο 10ο ετήσιο συμπόσιο της ECUME (Μεσογειακές Μορφωτικές Ανταλλαγές) στην Κωνσταντινούπολη (3-8 Μαΐου
2010). Πραγματοποίηση Ημερών Εργασίας με παρουσία εξειδικευμένων μελών του ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts) στην
Α.Σ.Κ.Τ. στο πλαίσιο του Προγράμματος Interartes για τη διασφάλιση
και βελτίωση της ποιότητας των σπουδών των Σχολών Καλών Τεχνών
της Ευρώπης (Μάρτιος, Απρίλιος και Ιούνιος του 2010).

ESTABLISHMENT – OBJECTIVES
The history of the Athens School of Fine Arts almost coincides chronologically with that of the Modern Greek State, starting with the establishment of the “School for the Arts” in Athens in 1837. During the
1850's the "School for the Arts" received from Nikolaos Stournaris and
Michael Tositsas two important donations, for acquiring a new building. In 1860, Helen Tositsa, the wife of Michael, donated to the
Institution the land where the new Polytechnic, on Patission str., was
going to be built.
Today the Athens School of Fine Arts operates as a self-managed
Higher Education Institution (Public Entity) under the supervision of
the State. Its aim is to cultivate its students’ artistic skills and provide
them, by means of courses and research alike, with all the necessary
theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of visual arts, while also
contributing to the country’s overall social and cultural development.
LOCATION
The A.S.F.A. site on 42, Patission Str., houses the Rector’s Office,
Administrative Services, the Research Committee, and the Independent Department of Gallery, Photo Archives and Documents.
The A.S.F.A. site on 256, Pireos Str., houses all the Art Studios, the
Library, the Network Administration Centre, the Master in Fine Arts
Programme, the Master in Digital Arts Programme, the theatre and the
movie theatre, the lecture halls and the exhibition venue “Nikos
Kessanlis”.

1. Annual Pan-Hellenic Conference of the Union of Art Teachers in
Secondary Education, held from 2-8 September 2009.
2. Conference and exhibition under the general title “A bus for direct
democracy”, held from 22 September to 1 October 2009.
3. Giorgos Zoggolopoulos Award on the 22nd of September at the
Benaki Museum.
4. “Teacher and students - professors of the A.S.F.A.”, an exhibition held
as a tribute to Yiannis Moralis, from 23 November to 4 December 2009
at the “Nikos Kessanlis” Exhibition Venue.
5. Exhibition by A.S.F.A 2007-2008 Graduating Class, held from 2-26
March 2010 at the “Nikos Kessanlis” Exhibition Venue.
6. Exhibition under the title “Art and Bipolarity” of the University Mental
Health Research Institute with works of the A.S.F.A. students, held from
9-21 March 2010 at the underground exhibition venue of A.S.F.A.
7. Celebration of the March 25th Independence Day, held on March 23,
2010 at the A.S.F.A. theatre; speech given by the Assistant Professor
Mrs. Ada Dialla.
8. Exhibition by the A.S.F.A students “The A.S.F.A. Copper Casting
Workshop”, held from 16-25 April 2010 at “Technopolis”, City of Athens.
9. Ceremony on the occasion of the conferring the title of Professor
Emeritus of the A.S.F.A. to the sculptor Theodoros Papayiannis, held on
the 19th of April 2010 at the Giorgio de Chirico Hall.
10. Engraving exhibition by A.S.F.A. students “Intaglio into focus – Intaglio
engraving, 2nd Printmaking Studio”, held from 5-20 May 2010 at the
Tsicrhitzis Foundation for the Visual Arts.
11. “The Greek State, an Historical Experiment”, speech of the Professor
George Dertilis delivered on the A.S.F.A. theatre, on the 19th of May 2010.

ACTIVITIES OF THE ERASMUS OFFICE
DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-2010
Since 1988 the A.S.F.A. has established partnerships and has been an
active participant in the Erasmus European Exchanges Programmes,
which involve the mobility of students and teaching staff, as well as in
intensive visual art programmes in collaboration with 56 Institutions &
Schools of Art all over Europe.
During the academic year 2009-2010 a total of 42 students from
European Schools of Art came to study at the A.S.F.A. in the context of
the said programme. At the same time, 25 Greek students of the A.S.F.A.
travelled to European Schools on study purposes. In terms of teaching
staff mobility, one faculty member travelled and taught in cooperating
Schools of the European Union and seven faculty members from abroad
taught in A.S.F.A.
EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-2010
Participation of the A.S.F.A. in the 10th annual symposium of ECUME
(Echanges Cultureles en Mediterranee), held from 3-8 May 2010 at
Constantinople. Organization of a workshop held at the A.S.F.A. with
the participation of certain members of ELIA (European League of
Institutes of the Arts), in the context of the Interartes Programme, aiming at the amelioration and assurance of the quality of the studies at the
European Fine Arts Institutions (March, April, June 2010).
