Celsius in order to bring about a change in its chemical or physical property. Different steps involved in
pyroprocessing technology are oxide reduction, distillation, electro refiner, injection casting, and re-oxidation.
Various types of solvents used in pyroprocessing are molten salts and molten metals. Molten salts include lithium
chloride (LiCl) and potassium chloride or lithium fluoride or calcium fluoride. Several types of molten metal used for
pyroprocessing are magnesium, bismuth and cadmium. With the change in physical or chemical properties of
minerals, ores or other materials pyroprocessing increases the economic value of these materials.

Pyroprocessing are used for high-burnup fuel process and requires less cooling times after the process completion.
Moreover, it does not use solvents which contain carbon and hydrogen. This method is more compact and simple
than aqueous methods and offers the features of reprocessing the fuel on the reactor (molten salt reactor and
integral fast reactor) site. This advantage reduces the security issues and avoids the transportation of fuel from one
site to another. Pyroprocessing separates many actinides and produces high radioactive fuel.

There are various processes used in pyroprocessing such as electrolysis, voloxidation, volatilization in isolation,
fluoride volatility and chloride volatility & solubility. Electrolysis is classified into two categories including PYRO-A and
PYRO-B. PYRO-A is used to separate various actinides from non-actinides. Pyro-B is a process used for processing and
recycling of fuels. Voloxidation breaks up the molecules in the fuel to enhance penetration of reagents. Volatilization
in isolation involves heating of fuel in an inert atmosphere within a temperature range of 700 degree Celsius to 1000
degree Celsius. Fluoride volatility involves reaction of fuel with fluorine.
Different types of equipments used in pyroprocessing include rotary kilns, dryers, electric arc furnaces,
reverberatory furnaces and coolers. Several systems involved in pyroprocessing include indirect kiln systems, iron
ore pelletizing systems, lime calcining system, lime hydration systems, petroleum coke calciners, waste processing
systems, specialty calcining systems. Pyroprocessing has widespread applications across various industry verticals
such as food, agriculture, chemicals, construction, mineral & ore industry. In construction industry, cement
manufacturing is the most common example of pyroprocessing. With increase in construction activities across
