Il comune di Gargnano con i suoi ca. 3000 abitanti è situato sulla sponda occidentale del lago di Garda; il suo territorio
si estende per 78 Km2 dal lago alla montagna, in parte all’interno del Parco dell’Alto Garda Bresciano.
Gargnano è costituito da tredici frazioni che, tra lago, collina e monte, danno al paese una varietà completa di situazioni ambientali: Bogliaco, Villa e Gargnano Centro sono adagiati sul lago in un’ampia conca tra orti, uliveti, giardini
e antiche limonaie. Risalendo dolcemente verso la montagna, si trovano le frazioni di Villavetro, Fornico e Zuino. Superati i 500 metri di altezza, la collina disegna altri nuclei: Liano, Formaga, Navazzo, Sasso e Musaga che conservano
ancora bellissime architetture rurali.
Più scostata, la frazione di Muslone si affaccia a picco sul Garda, mentre quella di Costa, a 18 chilometri, è la frazione
d’ Italia più lontana dal capoluogo.
L’entroterra gargnanese arriva a comprendere il Lago di Valvestino, autentico fiordo incastonato tra le montagne
dell’omonima valle.
Numerose sono le chiese, i palazzi storici e le bellezze artistiche sparse sul territorio come per esempio la splendida
Villa Bettoni o il cinquecentesco Palazzo Comunale del Traffegnini (1581) che si affaccia sul porticciolo del capoluogo, Palazzo Feltrinelli e Villa Feltrinelli passata alla storia come “Villa del Duce” per aver ospitato Mussolini durante i
giorni della Repubblica Sociale Italiana.
Per questo suo fascino particolare Gargnano è una meta ambita da un turismo appartato e tranquillo. Negli ultimi decenni inoltre, la sua fama si è andata consolidando, grazie alla variegata e intensa attività sportiva in particolar modo
nell’ambito velico con la Centomiglia che richiama numerosi appassionati da tutto il mondo.

Die Gemeinde Gargnano mit ihren 3000 Einwohnern liegt am westlichen Ufer des Gardasees.
Das Gemeindegebiet erstreckt sich ca. 78 km2 vom See bis ins Gebirge und liegt zum Teil innerhalb des Naturparks “Alto Garda Bresciano”.
Gargnano besteht aus 13 Ortsteilen, die am See, in den Hügeln und am Berg liegen und charakteristisch für seine abwechslungsreiche Umgebung sind: Bogliaco, Villa und Gargnano
Centro liegen am See in einem breiten Talkessel, der aus Gemüsegärten, Olivenhainen, Parks und antiken Zitronengärten besteht. In sanfter Hügellage in Richtung Gebirge befinden
sich die Ortsteile Villavetro, Fornico und Zuino. Auf über 500 m Höhe liegen weitere Dörfer:
Liano, Formaga, Navazzo, Sasso und Musaga, in denen noch charakteristische ländliche Bauten erhalten sind. Der etwas weiter entfernte Ortsteil Muslone liegt steil über dem Gardasee,
während zwischen dem Ortsteil Costa und Gargnano 18 Kilometer liegen. Damit ist er der am
weitesten von seinem Hauptort entfernte Ortsteil Italiens.
Zum Hinterland von Gargnano gehört auch der Lago di Valvestino, ein fjordartiger See inmitten des gleichnamigen Tals. Des Weiteren befinden sich in der Region zahlreiche Kirchen,
historische Paläste und Kunstschätze, darunter Villa Bettoni oder das vom Baumeister Traffegnini errichte Rathaus aus dem 16. Jh. (1581) gegenüber dem Hafen, Palazzo Feltrinelli und
Villa Feltrinelli, die als “Villa des Duce” in die Geschichte eingegangen ist, da sie während der
Italienischen Sozialrepublik Mussolini als Wohnsitz diente.
Aufgrund seiner besonderen Atmosphäre ist Gargnano ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel für alle, die
Ruhe und Entspannung suchen. In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten konnte es sich dank des abwechslungsreichen und vielseitigen Freizeitangebots vor allem im Bereich des Segelsports
einen Namen machen: die Regatta “Centomiglia” lockt Jahr für Jahr zahlreiche Segelsportfreunde aus aller Welt an.
The municipality of Gargnano with its roughly 3000 inhabitants is located on the western
shore of Lake Garda in an area that covers almost 78 km2 from the lake to the mountains, part
of which lies within the Alto Garda Bresciano Park.
The municipal territory of Gargnano includes thirteen different villages whose various locations on the lake, hills and mountains, give the town a wide variety of environmental settings:
Bogliaco, Gargnano and Villa are laid out on the lake in a wide valley full of orchards, olive
groves, gardens and ancient lemon trees. Gently rising on the slopes of the mountains are
the villages of Villavetro, Fornico and Zuino. Other villages are located more than 500 metres
above sea level on the hillsides: the villages of Liano, Formaga, Navazzo, Sasso and Musaga
which still retain their beautiful, rural architectural style.
A little farther from the coast, the village of Muslone precipitously overlooks the lake, while
Costa, 18 kilometres away, is the village most distant from its administrative centre in Italy.
Gargnano’s inland territory also includes Lake Valvestino, a genuine fjord nestled between
the mountains in the valley of the same name.
There are many churches, historic buildings and artistic wonders scattered throughout the
area, such as the splendid Villa Bettoni or the 16th-century Palazzo Comunale del Traffegnini
(1581) overlooking Gargnano’s harbour, Palazzo Feltrinelli and Villa Feltrinelli are known to history as the “Villa del Duce” on account of Mussolini’s stay there during the days of the Italian
Social Republic.
Its special charm makes Gargnano a popular destination for private and relaxing holidays. In
addition to this its fame has spread in recent decades due to various intense sports, especially
sailing and the Centomiglia which attracts many enthusiasts from around the world.

PALAZZO Bettoni
Costruita all’inizio del ‘700 dall’architetto Adriano Cristofori, la villa era stata commissionata
da Giandomenico Bettoni. Il corpo centrale del
grande palazzo è ornato da una balaustra con
statue mitologiche, realizzate da Giovanni Battista Locatelli. Al centro dell’edificio, il salone
separa le ali della villa, che conserva, al suo interno, affreschi di Beniamino e Fabrizio Galliari
oltre ad altre opere, che costituiscono una vera
pinacoteca di pittura barocca.
Lo spettacolare giardino all’italiana è contraddistinto da una grande esedra, un ninfeo ed aiuole. Alle spalle del giardino si trovano alcune
limonaie ed il parco.
Anfang des 18. Jh.s beauftragte Giandomenico Bettoni den Architekten Adriano Cristofori mit dem Bau der
Villa. Den Mitteilteil des großen Palasts ziert eine Balustrade mit Statuen der antiken Mythologie von Giovanni Battista Locatelli. Der große Salon im Zentrum des
Gebäudes trennt die Flügel der Villa, die mit Fresken
von Beniamino und Fabrizio Galliari und weiteren Werken geschmückt ist und damit eine kleine Pinakothek
der barocken Malerei darstellt. Der prachtvolle Italienische Garten besteht aus einem großen Halbrund, einem Nymphäum und wunderschönen Blumenbeeten.
Hinter dem Garten befinden sich einige Zitronengärten
und der Park.
Built in the early 18th century by the architect Adriano
Cristofori, the villa was commissioned by Giandomenico
Bettoni. The body of the great palace is adorned with
a balustrade of mythological statues sculpted by Giovanni Battista Locatelli. At the centre of the building,
the hall separates the wings of the villa which contains
frescoes by Beniamino and Fabrizio Galliari, as well as
other works, which constitute a veritable gallery of Baroque painting.
The villa’s spectacular Italian garden is highlighted by a
large exedra, lily pond and flowerbeds. Behind the garden are some lemon groves and the park.

Si affaccia sul porticciolo del Capoluogo. Eretto nel ‘500, fu progettato da Giovanni Traffegnini ispiratosi allo stile del Todeschini. Al primo piano è conservato un cippo marmoreo del
‘400 con lo stemma del Comune. Il pianterreno
presenta un porticato sorretto da grossi pilastri con una lapide in marmo commemorante il
bombardamento effettuato dalle navi austriache nel 1886, le cui palle di cannone si trovano
ancora incastonate nelle facciate delle case che
si affacciano sul porto.

Dieses Gebäude liegt gegenüber dem Hafen des Hauptortes. Es wurde im 16. Jh. nach Plänen von Giovanni
Traffegnini in Anlehnung an den Stil von Todeschini
errichtet. Im ersten Stock ist ein marmorner Säulenstumpf aus dem 15. Jh. erhalten, der das Wappen der
Gemeinde trägt. Im Erdgeschoss befindet sich ein Säulengang mit großen Pfeilern und einem Gedenkstein
aus Marmor zur Erinnerung an das Bombardement
durch österreichische Schiffe im Jahre 1886. Einige dieser Kanonenkugeln sind heute noch in den Fassaden
der direkt am Hafen liegenden Häuser zu erkennen.

The old municipal building overlooks the town harbour.
Built in the 16th century, it was designed by Giovanni
Traffegnini after the style of Todeschini. The first floor
has a marble pillar from the 15th century bearing the
town’s coat of arms. The ground floor features a portico
supported by large pillars with a marble plaque commemorating the bombing by Austrian ships in 1886, whose cannon-balls are still visible on the facades of the
houses overlooking the harbour.

Passata alla storia come “Villa del Duce” per
averlo ospitato durante i giorni della Repubblica Sociale Italiana, Villa Feltrinelli fu costruita
tra il 1892 ed il 1899 da Alberico Barbiano di
Belgiojoso su commissione del patriarca della
famiglia Feltrinelli, Faustino.
La facciata sul lago rappresenta la parte più
fastosa della villa, mentre il parco alle spalle
dell’edificio include essenze arboree pregiate.
Tra l’ottobre 1943 e l’aprile 1945, Villa Feltrinelli fu residenza di Benito Mussolini, che vi risiedette con la famiglia.
Sie ging als “Villa des Duce” in die Geschichte ein, da
sie Mussolini während der Italienischen Sozialrepublik
als Wohnsitz diente. Villa Feltrinelli wurde zwischen
1892 und 1899 im Auftrag des damaligen Familienoberhaupts Faustino Feltrinelli von Alberico Barbiano di
Belgiojoso erbaut.
Die seeseitige Fassade bildet den prächtigsten Teil der
Villa, der hinter dem Gebäude gelegene Parke enthält
seltene Baumarten. Vom Oktober 1943 bis April 1945
war die Villa Feltrinelli der Wohnsitz von Benito Mussolini, der hier mit seiner Familie lebte.

Known to history as “Villa del Duce” for having been
home to Mussolini during the days of the Italian Social Republic, Villa Feltrinelli was built between 1892
and 1899 by Alberico Barbiano Belgiojoso, who was
commissioned by the patriarch of the Feltrinelli family,
Faustino.
The facade overlooking the lake is the most sumptuous
part of the villa, while the park behind the building includes rare and valuable trees. Between October 1943
and April 1945 Villa Feltrinelli was the residence of Benito Mussolini, who lived there with his family.

convegni internazionali. In estate ospita corsi
avanzati di lingua italiana per studenti di tutto

Regime beschlagnahmt und diente Benito Mussolini als
Verwaltungssitz. Heute ist das Gebäude eine Zweigstelle der Universität Mailand und wird als Internationales Tagungszentrum genutzt. Im Sommer werden
hier Italienisch-Sprachkurse für Teilnehmer aus aller
Welt organisiert.

Built as the private house of Giuseppe Feltrinelli, it is
uncertain whether the design of the project is that of
Alberico Belgiojoso or Francesco Solmi. At the time of
the Italian Social Republic (1943-1945), the building
was confiscated by the fascist government and used
as the secretariat for Benito Mussolini. The building is
now a branch of the University of Milan and has been
turned into a centre for international conferences, in
the summer it hosts Italian language courses for learners from around the world.

Igea, nella frazione Villa di Gargnano.
Qui, termina il romanzo “Sons and Lovers”, lavora ad un volume di poesie
che includono “Sunday Afternoon in
Italy” e “Spring Morning”, ma soprattutto scrive i capitoli del
libro “Twilight in Italy” dedicati al Lago di Garda. Dal 30 marzo
al 11 aprile 1913, si trasferisce a San Gaudenzio di Muslone,
sopra Gargnano.
David Herbert Lawrence kam im August 1912 mit seiner Partnerin Frieda Weekley von Richtofen nach Gargnano, wo sie von September 1912
bis März 1913 blieben. Zunächst wohnten sie in der Villa Igea im Ortsteil
Villa di Gargnano. Hier beendete er seinen Roman “Sons and Lovers” und
arbeitete an einem Gedichtband, der unter anderem “Sunday Afternoon
in Italy” und “Spring Morning” enthielt. Vor allem aber schrieb er die dem
Gardasee gewidmeten Kapitel seines Buchs “Twilight in Italy”. Vom 30.
März bis 11. April 1913 weilte er in San Gaudenzio di Muslone oberhalb
Gargnanos.
In August 1912, D.H. Lawrence and his partner Frieda von Richtofen
Weekley came to Gargnano, where they lived on the first floor of Villa Igea in Villa Gargnano from September 1912 to March 1913. Here,
he finished the novel “Sons and Lovers”, worked on a book of poems,
which included “Sunday Afternoon in Italy” and “Spring Morning”, and
most importantly, wrote the chapters of the book “Twilight in Italy” dedicated to Lake Garda. From 30 March to 11 April 1913, he moved to San
Gaudenzio di Muslone, located above Gargnano.

Nel 1786 a 37 anni, Goethe, intraprende il suo primo viaggio in Italia che durerà quasi due anni. Arriva a Trento il 10
settembre e poi continua il suo viaggio verso Rovereto e
Torbole. Viene segnalato a Gargnano ove, in una abitazione privata, viene trovata una sua piccola silhouette.
Nato a Gargnano nel 1952. Nei primi anni ’80 fonda a Gargnano il “Teatro dell’Acqua”. Regìe operistiche e teatrali ad altissimo livello, tra le quali il celebre Parsifal diretto da Riccardo
Muti alla scala di Milano.Professore di Regìa presso il dipartimento di Storia dell’Arte, Musica e Spettacolo all’Università di
Milano, nel 2009 vince il Premio Ubu come miglior testo drammaturgico con La badante.
Giovan Battista Ignazio Grazioli(1746 - 1820) nasce a Villavetro di Gargnano il 6 luglio1746.
Si trasferisce a Venezia, dove
studia musica. Lascia alla Cappella Musicale di S. Marco circa
400 composizioni religiose.
Muore di tisi il 6 febbraio 1820.

seine Anwesenheit in Gargnano weist eine kleine Umrisszeichnung
hin, die in einem privaten Wohnhaus aufgefunden wurde.
In 1786, at the age of 37, Goethe embarked on his first trip to Italy, which lasted nearly two years. He
arrived at Trento on 10 September and then continued his journey to Rovereto and Torbole. A trace
of him remains in Gargnano, where a small silhouette of the author is on display in a private home.
BENITO MUSSOLINI
Geboren 1952 in Gargnano. Anfang der 80er Jahre gründete er in Gargnano das
“Teatro dell’Acqua”. Er führte Opern- und Theaterregien auf höchster Ebene, u.a.
für den berühmten Parzifal unter der Leitung von Riccardo Muti an der Mailänder Scala, und ist Professor für
Regie an der Fakultät für Kunstgeschichte, Musik und Schauspiel der Universität Mailand. 2009 erhielt den
“Premio Ubu” für den besten dramaturgischen Text mit “La badante”.
Giovan Battista Ignazio Grazioli (1746 - 1820) wurde am 6. Juli 1746 in
Villavetrodi Gargnano geboren. Er zog nach Venedig, wo er Musik studierte. Er hinterlässt der musikalischen Kapelle S. Marco ca. 400 Liturgische
Kompositionen . Am 6. Februar 1820 starb er an Schwindsucht.
Born in Gargnano in 1952, he founded in the early 1980s in Gargnano the “Teatro dell’Acqua”. He was the
director of opera and theatre productions of the highest level , including the famous Parsifal, conducted by
Riccardo Muti at La Scala in Milano. Professor of direction in the Department of History of Art, Music and Performance at the University of Milan, in 2009 won the Ubu Award for the best dramatic text with “La badante”.
Giovan Battista Ignazio Grazioli (1746 - 1820) was born in Villavetro diGargnano on 6 July 1746. He moved to Venice where he studied music. He left

Diodato Emilio Ughi – nato a Busto Arsizio, 21 gennaio 1944.
Musicista e virtuoso del violino, ha per lungo tempo avuto una
delle sue residenze a Gargnano, dove spesso torna per tenere concerti e non è difficile trovarlo a passeggio per le vie del
centro.
Erika Blanc, al secolo Enrica Colombatto Bianchi nata a Gargnano, 23 luglio 1942, attrice, ha al
suo attivo più di 100 film e partecipazioni televisive.

man ihn häufig bei einem Rundgang durch die Gässchen des Ortes antreffen kann.
Erika Blanc wurde als Enrica Colombatto Bianchi am 23. Juli 1942 in Gargnano geboren. Die berühmte Schauspielerin wirkte in über 100 Filmen
und Fernsehproduktionen mit.

il chiostro di S. Francesco, venne edificato un
convento i cui frati diedero vita alla coltivazione
dei limoni. Grazie al clima mite di cui gode, per
secoli Gargnano ha legato la propria economia
alle limonaie, vere cattedrali di pilastri, costruite per rendere possibile l’agrumicoltura a questa
latitudine, la più a nord nel mondo. Nel 1840, a
fianco del convento, si costituì la “Società Lago
di Garda”, la prima cooperativa agricola d’Italia,
finalizzata alla raccolta e alla commercializzazione di questo prezioso prodotto. L’agrumicoltura
raggiunse la massima espansione negli anni
1850-1855, quando, Gargnano contava la metà
delle limonaie presenti su tutta la riva ovest.
La morte dell’80% delle piante, avvenuta per
la malattia della “gommosi”, la concorrenza del
prodotto meridionale seguìto all’unificazione
del Regno d’Italia e soprattutto la sintesi di laboratorio dell’acido citrico, portarono via via all’abbandono graduale di questa attività.

Le limonaie
Im 13. Jh. wurde dort, wo sich heute die Kirche und der
Kreuzgang von S. Francesco befinden, ein Kloster errichtet,
dessen Mönche den Zitronenanbau einführten. Dank des
milden Klimas von Gargnano basierte die Wirtschaft des
Ortes über Jahrhunderte auf den Zitronengärten: beeindruckende Monumente aus Pfeilern, die errichtet wurden,
um den Anbau von Zitrusfrüchten auf diesem Breitengrad
– dem nördlichsten der Welt - zu ermöglichen. 1840 wurde
neben dem Kloster die “Società Lago di Garda” gegründet,
die erste landwirtschaftliche Genossenschaft Italiens, die
dem Zweck der Ernte und des Vertriebs dieser wertvollen
Erzeugnisse diente. Die Zitrusfruchtkultur erreichte ihren
Höhepunkt in den Jahren 1850-1855, als sich allein in Gargnano die Hälfte aller Zitronengärten des gesamten Westufers befand. Bedingt durch den Verlust von 80% der Pflanzen durch Braunfäule, durch die Konkurrenz der Produkte
aus Süditalien infolge der Vereinigung des Königreichs Italien und vor allem durch die Herstellung von synthetischer
Zitronensäure wurde der Anbau nach und nach eingestellt.
In the 13th century, on grounds where the church and
cloister of San Francesco presently stand, there was
a monastery whose monks began lemon cultivation.
Thanks to its mild climate, Gargnano’s economy was
linked to its lemon groves for centuries; these were
true cathedrals of pillars built to make citrus cultivation
possible at this latitude, the northernmost in the world.
In 1840, next to the convent, the “Società Lago di Garda” (Lake Garda Company) became the first agricultural
cooperative in Italy, formed to harvest and market this
valuable product. The citrus industry reached its peak
between 1850 and 1855 when Gargnano was home to
half of the lemon greenhouses on the western shore.
The death of 80% of the plants from the gummosis
disease, competition from southern produce following
the unification of the Kingdom of Italy and, most especially, laboratory synthesis of citric acid, gradually led to
the activity being abandoned.

La Chiesa fu eretta nel capoluogo nel 1289 dai
frati francescani, per volere del Vescovo di Brescia. L’esterno conserva la sua impronta romanica, in stile semplice e povero. Sulla facciata,
si nota una statua votiva (1301) raffigurante
l’immagine di Sant’Antonio da Padova. L ‘interno della chiesa, custodisce dipinti di Giovanni
Andrea Bertanza e Andrea Celesti. Il chiostro,
a lato della chiesa, espone una lapide dedicata
a Nettuno, ed una piccola ara onorante la divinità locale di Revino, entrambe di età romana.
Ancora nel chiostro si trova il quattrocentesco
stemma marmoreo del Comune di Gargnano iniziali C.G. (Communitas Gargnani) rappresentante una lupa rampante che tiene fra le zampe
un giglio. Nel 1879 il convento diventa proprietà della Società Lago di Garda, che lo adatta a
magazzino.

Die Kirche im Hauptort wurde 1289 im Auftrag des Bischofs
von Brescia von den Franziskanerbrüdern errichtet. Die
Außenseite des Gebäudes zeigt sich nach wie vor im einfachen und schlichten Stil der Romanik. Auf der Fassade ist
eine Votivstatue (1301) zu sehen, die Sant’Antonio da Padova (Hl. Antonius von Padua) darstellt. Der Innenraum der
Kirche beherbergt Gemälde von Giovanni Andrea Bertanza
und Andrea Celesti. Der seitlich an die Kirche angebaute
Kreuzgang enthält einen Grabstein mit einer dem Neptun
geweihten Inschrift, sowie einen kleinen Altar zu Ehren der
lokalen Gottheit “Revinus”, beide aus der Römerzeit. Ebenfalls im Kreuzgang befindet sich das marmorne Wappen der
Gemeinde Gargnano aus dem 15. Jh. mit den Anfangsbuchstaben C.G. (Communitas Gargnani), das eine auf den Hinterbeinen stehende Wölfin darstellt, die eine Lilie zwischen
den Klauen hält. 1879 wurde das Kloster Eigentum der “Società Lago di Garda”, die es als Lager benutzte.
The church was built in Gargnano in 1289 by Franciscan monks commissioned by the Bishop of Brescia.
The exterior retains its simple and rough Romanesque
style. The facade has a votive statue (1301) depicting
the image of St. Anthony of Padua. The interior of the
church contains paintings by Giovanni Andrea Bertanza and Andrea Celesti. The cloister next to the church
holds a plaque dedicated to Neptune, and a small altar
honouring the local deity, Revino, both from the Roman

Das ursprüngliche Gebäude, in dem noch die Reste einiger Fresken zu sehen sind, geht auf das 14. Jh. zurück.
Gut erhalten ist ein Fresko, das S. Libera (1535) darstellt. Der Innenraum enthält drei Altäre: der größte
ist S. Tommaso geweiht, die anderen beiden S. Andrea
Apostolo und S. Anna.
Das neben der Kirche liegende Kloster wurde 1906 im
Auftrag von Monsignor Pietro Feltrinelli errichtet und
beherbergte bis vor wenigen Jahren einen Franziskanerorden. Heute ist es Sitz des Centre Européen de
Rencontre et de Ressourcement, welches von Padre
Bruno Ducoli geleitet wird.
The original building, of which traces of frescoes remain, dates back to the 14th century. A well-preserved
fresco depicts St Liberata (1535). Inside there are three
altars: the high altar dedicated to St Thomas, one dedicated to St Andrew the Apostle and one dedicated to
St Anna.
The monastery adjoining the church, built in 1906 by

S. Giacomo è la pieve romanica più antica del
Garda ed ha un notevole interesse artistico. con
affreschi del sec. XIV. Sull’esterno della parete
sud è ben visibile l’affresco di S. Cristoforo con il
Bambino sulle spalle, a grandezza d’uomo perché esso doveva essere visto anche da lontano.
Infatti, i passanti che avessero posato lo sguardo sull’immagine del santo, per quella giornata
non sarebbero stati colti da morte improvvisa.
L’altare è dedicato a S. Giacomo Maggiore, di
cui è conservata la statua lignea datata 1501.
L’attuale porta risale al sec. XVI, come pure le
due finestrelle quadrate fatte aprire da S. Carlo
Borromeo in occasione della sua Visita Apostolica nel mese di agosto del 1580.
S. Giacomo ist die älteste Landkirche der Gardaseeregion und enthält Fresken aus dem 14. Jh., die von
hohem kunsthistorischen Interesse sind. An der südlichen Außenwand ist das Gemälde des S. Cristoforo
mit dem Kind auf den Schultern gut zu erkennen. Es
befindet sich auf Mannshöhe, da es auch von Weitem
gut zu sehen sein sollte. Wer nämlich an der Kirche
vorbeikam und den Blick auf das Gemälde des Heiligen
richtete, sollte an diesem Tag von einem plötzlichen
Tod verschont bleiben. Der Altar ist S. Giacomo Maggiore geweiht, von dem eine hölzerne Statue aus dem Jahr
1501 erhalten ist. Das Portal stammt aus dem 16. Jh.,
ebenso wie die beiden quadratischen Fenster, deren
Öffnung S. Carlo Borromeo anlässlich einer apostolischen Visitation im August 1580 vornehmen ließ.

St James is the oldest Romanesque church of the Garda region and is of great artistic interest, with frescoes
from the 14th century. On the external wall there is a
clearly visible fresco of St Christopher with the Child on
his shoulders. It was life-size so that it could be seen
from far away. In fact, passers-by who gazed upon the
image of the saint would be protected from sudden death for the entire day. The altar is dedicated to St James
the Greater and houses a wooden statue that dates
back to 1501. The present door dates back to the 16th
century, as do the two square windows, opened for St
Carlo Borromeo on the occasion of his Apostolic Visit in
August of 1580.

Il Polo Cartario di Maina Inferiore è un affascinante complesso produttivo trasformato in
sede espositiva e museale.
Al suo interno si ripercorrono le tappe della
storia della produzione cartaria dalle origini al
Novecento, attraverso un suggestivo percorso
di visita che dal nucleo cinquecentesco della
fabbrica, nel quale sono riprodotti macchinari
e attrezzature caratteristici della produzione
della carta dal XV al XVIII secolo, si snoda nelle
ampie sale superiori, dedicate all’evoluzione
della produzione nelle prime fasi della Rivoluzione Industriale.
Beim Polo Cartario di Maina Inferiore handelt es sich um einen faszinierenden Produktionskomplex, der in einen Ausstellungs- und Museumssitz umgewandelt wurde. In seinem Inneren durchläuft man die Etappen
der Geschichte der Papierherstellung von ihren Ursprüngen bis zum 20.
Jahrhundert anhand eines eindrucksvollen Ausstellungsrundgangs, der
ausgehend von dem auf das 16.Jahrhundert zurückgehende Herz der Fabrik, in der typische Maschinen und Ausrüstungen der Papierherstellung
vom 15. bis 18. Jahrhundert nachgebildet sind, sich durch die weitläuigen
oberen Säle schlängelt, die der Entwicklung der Produktionsverfahren in
den ersten Phasen der Industriellen Revolution gewidmet sind.
The Paper Centre in Maina Inferiore is an interesting productive site recently converted into a museum-exhibition where the history of paper production is traced up to the 20th Century.
The visit begins in the 16th century factory, containing reproductions of
15th-18th century machineries and equipment, and proceeds to the upper
floor devoted to the paper production development at the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution.

stehen. Der Zauber der Tallandschaft mit ihren steilen
Abhängen und ihren engen Schluchten ist auch an den
Reichtum und die Vielfalt ihrer Vegetation gebunden,
die sich mit den Ruinen und Anlagen der antiken Industrie vermischt.

Seat of a productive tradition which began in the
1300s, a fundamental paper pole in the territories of
the Venetian Republic between 1400s and 1700s, place of particular business affairs between 1800s and
1900s, the Paper-Mills’ Valley of Toscolano Maderno
has preserved some impressive testimonials of its industrial past, incorporated in an environment which
appears to be in stark contrast with that of the Riviera.
The charm of the valley’s landscape, which is characterized by steep slopes and closed among narrow canyons, derives also from the richness and variety of its
vegetation, which is mingled with the ruins and areas
that were part of the industry.

Per qualche passaggio più impegnativo è sconsigliata a famiglie con bambini sotto i 5 anni. Ottima meta per un picnic con vista mozzafiato. Tempo
di percorrenza partendo da Sasso (parcheggio auto) ore 1:00; partendo da
Gargnano Centro (più impegnativa) ore 3:00.
Facile passeggiata lungo vecchi vicoli e sentieri alla scoperta di pittoreschi angoli nascosti di Gargnano e testimonianze della devozione popolare. Raggiunge il punto più alto dell’abitato di Gargnano Centro. Tempo di
percorrenza ore 1:30.
Passeggiata a mezza costa, dalla Frazione di Muslone di Gargnano a quella
di Piovere di Tignale, facile e piacevole, attraverso orti e uliveti, godendo
di una splendida vista sul lago. Sia Muslone che Piovere, con le loro case
in pietra, testimoniano la vita rurale di un tempo. Percorrenza partendo
da Muslone (parcheggio auto) ore 1:00; partendo da Gargnano Centro, ore
2:30.
Partendo dal centro abitato, via via ci si immerge sempre più nella natura,
raggiungendo la cima di Montecastello, che domina Gargnano. Difficoltà
media. Sconsigliata a famiglie con bambini sotto gli 8 anni. Tempo di percorrenza partendo dalla frazione di Fornico (parcheggio auto) ore 2:00;
partendo da Gargnano Centro, ore 3:00.
Mittelschwere Wanderung auf dem Weg Nr. 31 durch die Wälder. Aufgrund einiger
schwieriger Passagen ist diese Wanderungen für Familien mit Kindern unter 5 Jahren nicht geeignet. Ein perfektes Ziel für ein Picknick mit atemberaubendem Ausblick.
Gehzeit ab Sasso (Parkplatz) 1 Stunde; ab der Ortsmitte Gargnano (anspruchsvoller)

Leichter Spaziergang durch malerische Gassen und auf alten Wegen, bei dem man

Parte da Brescia, ove si trova anche il museo a
lei dedicato “La Corsa più Bella del Mondo”. Da
decenni, La Millemiglia, con le auto storiche che
vi partecipano, richiama appassionati da tutto il
mondo, che seguono la corsa da Brescia a Roma
e ritorno.
Das Rennen startet in Brescia, wo sich auch ein Museum befindet, das dem “schönsten Rennen der Welt”
gewidmet ist. Seit Jahrzehnten lockt “Millemiglia” mit
den teilnehmenden Oldtimern Liebhaber aus aller Welt
an, die das Rennen von Brescia nach Rom und zurück
aus der Nähe verfolgen möchten.

Quando Gargnano mostra il meglio di sè. Dal tramonto a notte fonda, specialità preparate dai ristoranti locali, vino, musica, spettacoli e giochi
per tutti. Si tiene solitamente alla fine del mese
di Luglio.
Gargnano von seiner besten Seite. Vom Sonnenuntergang bis tief in die Nacht hinein werden in den Restaurants regionale Spezialitäten und Weine angeboten,
mit Musik, Vorführungen und Spielen für Groß und
Klein. Das Fest findet normalerweise Ende Juli statt.

Corso avanzato di chitarra, tenuto fin dal 1973
dal maestro Oscar Ghiglia. Gli artisti, tutti ad
alto livello tengono brevi concerti d’esame
aperti al pubblico. Parte degli “Incontri Chitarristici”, è il corso di Musica Antica e Intavolatura
tenuto dal Maestro Massimo Lonardi.
La Centomiglia è una famosa regata velica che si
svolge ogni anno a settembre sul lago di Garda.
È indicata come la regata più lunga che si svolge
in Europa su acque interne. Con la 60ª edizione,
raggiunta nel 2010, si aggiudica il titolo di gara
velica più longeva in Italia. Vi partecipa ogni genere di imbarcazioni sportive.
Ogni estate, presso l’auditorium della Sala Castellani e in altre prestigiose sedi si tiene una
serie di appuntamenti di musica classica aperti
gratuitamente al pubblico. I concerti, tutti di ottima qualità, affrontano varie tipologie epocali
e strumentali.
In estate, settimanalmente, si tiene sul lungolago di Gargnano un appuntamento di musica
jazz. Suonata da ottimi professionisti, questa
musica crea una atmosfera nella quale è piacevolissimo passeggiare, oppure prendere un
drink nei bar limitrofi.

wöchentlich ein Jazzkonzert abgehalten. Die hervorragenden Künstler schaffen mit ihrer Musik eine Atmosphäre, die zum Flanieren oder auf einen Drink in die
umliegenden Cafés einlädt.

Gitarrenseminar “Incontri Chitarristici” gehört auch ein
Kurs in Alter Musik und Tabulatur, der von dem Gitarristen
und Lautenisten Massimo Lonardi abgehalten wird.

Gargnano è terra ricca di sapori che traggono la loro particolarità da una forte terra calcarea e da un microclima favorevole. Tra le sue tipicità, spiccano i
limoni ed i cedri coltivati ancora nelle antiche limonaie, seguendo il metodo tradizionale; gli ulivi, dai quali si produce un rinomato olio extravergine caratterizzato da un delicato gusto erbaceo e lievemente piccante; il cappero, con i suoi meravigliosi fiori, che cresce spontaneo sui muri di pietra esposti

Gargnano bietet eine Vielzahl an kulinarischen Spezialitäten, deren Besonderheit nicht zuletzt durch die kalkhaltigen Böden und das milde Mikroklima bedingt ist. Hierzu
gehören die Zitronen und Zitronatzitronen, die heute noch nach der traditionellen Methode in den antiken Zitronengärten angebaut werden; die Oliven, aus denen ein erstklassiges extranatives Öl mit einem zarten, grasartigen und leicht pikanten Aroma gewonnen wird; die an den sonnigen Steinmauern wachsenden Kapernbüsche mit ihren
herrlichen Blüten; frischer Seefisch, z.B. Döbel, Renke, Forelle, Hecht, Barsch, Aal und die berühmte Gardaseeforelle, die nur in den Tiefen des Gardasees vorkommt. Die Kuhund Ziegenmilch, aus der naturreiner Käse hergestellt wird, stammt von kleinen Zuchtbetrieben aus der Umgebung. Dank der traditionell betriebenen Jagd können eine Reihe

Gargnano is a land rich in tasty foods that take their unique flavours from the rugged calcareous soil and temperate micro-climate. Traditional foods include the lemons and
citrons still grown in the ancient groves according to traditional methods; olives, which produce a renowned extra-virgin olive oil characterized by a delicate herbal and slightly
spicy taste; capers, with the wonderful flowers of the plant, which grows wild on the stone walls exposed to the sun; fresh fish from the lake, including chub, whitefish, trout,
pike, perch, eel and the famous large lake carp, which is found only in this lake, at great depths. Small farms provide milk for genuine cheese made from cow’s milk and goat’s
milk. The hunting tradition in the area provides abundant game, especially wild boar, which has a particular, wild taste.

Il vero piatto tipico locale è lo SPIEDO.
Cinque varietà di carni, alternate con pezzi di patata e foglie di salvia cotto su spiedini alla brace e annaffiato con abbondante burro liquefatto e sale con una lenta rosolatura che richiede dalle 4 alle 5 ore. Si
serve con la polenta, bagnata dallo stesso
sugo di cottura.
Die Eigentliche Spezialität: SPIEDO.
Fünf verschiedene Fleischsorten, die mit Kartoffeln und Salbeiblättern auf Spieße gesteckt,
mit flüssiger Butter bestrichen, gesalzen und
langsam (zwischen 4 und 5 Stunden lang) geschmort werden. Dazu wird Polenta serviert, die
mit der entstandenen Soße garniert wird.

potato and sage leaves, are cooked on skewers
over a grill and basted with plenty of melted butter and salt to slowly brown over 4 to 5 hours. It
is served with polenta, moistened with the same

Il LIMONCELLO (ricetta)
Lasciar macerare la sottile parte esterna della buccia di 12 limoni, meglio se ancora verdi, in mezzo litro
di alcool puro per 1 giorno in un recipiente chiuso. Trascorso questo periodo si tolgono le bucce. Si fanno
sciogliere sul fuoco 500 grammi di zucchero in 80 cl di acqua. Si lascia raffreddare lo sciroppo appena formato e si unisce con l’alcool. Si lascia riposare in recipiente chiuso per almeno 10 giorni. Si serve
fresco di frigorifero. Eventuali piccole particelle scure galleggianti sono segno della presenza degli olii
essenziali del limone e sono una caratteristica di genuinità.
IL VINO
Il favorevole clima mediterraneo permette la coltura dell’uva dalla quale
nascono pregiati vini come il bianco di Lugana, tipico dell’area a sud di
Sirmione, il Groppello, anche detto Rosso Valtenesi, formato per metà da
uve groppello e per la parte restante da Marzemino, Barbera e Sangiovese ed il Chiaretto, vino rosato ottenuto dalle stesse uve del Groppello
vinificiate in bianco con pigiatura soffice.
LIMONCELLO - Zitronenlikör (Rezept)
Die dünn geschnittene Schale von 12 Zitronen (am besten noch grün) einen Tag lang mit einem halben Liter reinen
Alkohols in ein geschlossenes Glas geben. Anschließend die Schalen entfernen. 80 cl Wasser auf der Herdplatte erhitzen
und 500 Gramm Zucker darin auflösen. Den auf diese Weise entstandenen Sirup abkühlen lassen und anschließend den
Alkohol hinzugeben. Das Gemisch mindestens 10 Tage lang in einem geschlossenen Behälter ruhen lassen. Direkt aus
dem Kühlschrank servieren. Eventuell auf der Oberfläche auftretende kleine Flecken von dunklerer Farbe können durch
die ätherischen Öle der Zitrone entstehen und zeugen von der Natürlichkeit des Produktes.
WEIN
Das Mittelmeerklima begünstigt den Anbau renommierter Weine, z.B. der Weißwein
“Bianco di Lugana” aus dem Gebiet südlich von Sirmione, der Rotwein Groppello (auch Rosso Valtenesi genannt), der zur Hälfte aus Groppello-Trauben und zur
Hälfte aus Marzemino, Barbera und Sangiovese besteht, sowie der Chiaretto, ein
Roséwein aus Groppello-Trauben, die mit einer sanften Kelterung aus Weißwein
bereitet werden.
LIMONCELLO – Lemon Liquor (recipe)
Marinate the thin, outer-part of the peel of 12 lemons (better if still green) in half a litre of pure alcohol for 1 day in a
closed container and then remove the peels. Melt 500 grams of sugar in 80 cl of water on the stove. The newly-formed
syrup is cooled and mixed with the alcohol. Then it is set to rest in a closed container for at least 10 days. Serve cold from
the refrigerator. Any small, dark, floating particles attest to the presence of the lemon essential oils and are a sign of
authenticity.
WINE
The favourable Mediterranean climate allows the grapes to be grown that make wines such as the white Lugana, typical of the area south of Sirmione; Groppello, also
known as Red Valtenesi, made using half Groppello grapes and the rest from Marzemino, Barbera and Sangiovese grapes, and Claret, a rosé wine made from the same
grapes as the Groppello, vinified as a white wine with soft pressing.
L’OLIO D’OLIVA
Gargnà, Casaliva, Frantoio, Leccino, Miniòl, Pendolino: sono i nomi delle
varietà di ulivi che si coltivano a Gargnano. Sempre spremute a freddo,
a brevissimo tempo dalla raccolta, da esse si ricava un olio extravergine
dalla bassissima acidità, leggero, lievemente amaro e piccante, con profumi che vanno dal carciofo, alla mandorla, dall’erba falciata, alla vaniglia, ai fiori. Una curiosità: il garda è la località più a nord dell’Europa ove
si coltiva l’ulivo.
OLIVENÖL

die in Gargnano angebaut werden. Sie werden nach der Ernte innerhalb kürzester
Zeit einer Kaltpressung unterzogen, woraus ein leichtes, extranatives Olivenöl mit

Aroma auszeichnet, mit Noten nach Artischocken, Mandeln, frisch gemähtem Gras,
Vanille und Blüten. Wussten Sie schon: das Gardaseegebiet ist die nördlichste Region Europas, in der der Olivenbaum angebaut wird.
OLIVE OIL
Gargnà, Casaliva, Frantoio, Leccino, Miniòl, and Pendolino are the names of the varieties of olive trees that grow in Gargnano. Always cold-pressed, shortly after harvesting, they yield a light, extra-virgin olive oil with very low acidity that is slightly
bitter and spicy, with aromas ranging from artichokes, almonds, cut grass, vanilla,
and flowers. A bit of trivia: Lake Garda is the northernmost place in Europe where
olives are grown.

FILETTO DI TROTA FARCITO
(ricetta) per 4 persone:
4 filetti di trota e 2 di pesce persico entrambi
senza pelle, 1 carota, 1 zucchina, spinaci, 1 bicchiere di vino bianco, farina bianca, sale, pepe,
olio extravergine, 2 cucchiai di panna.
GEFÜLLTES FORELLENFILET
(Rezept) für 4 Personen:
4 Forellenfilets und 2 Seebarschfilets (jeweils ohne
Haut), 1 Karotte, 1 Zucchino, Spinat, 1 Glas Weißwein,
Weißmehl, Salz, Pfeffer, extranatives Olivenöl, 2 Esslöffel Sahne.
STUFFED TROUT FILLETS
(Recipe) for 4 people:
4 trout fillets and 2 perch fillets (both skinless), 1 carrot, 1 courgette, spinach, 1 cup of white wine, white
flour, salt, pepper, extra-virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons
of cream.
PREPARAZIONE
- Salare leggermente i filetti di trota e coprirli
con le foglie di spinaci.
- Passare nel frullatore i filetti di pesce persico
con la carota, la zucchina, sale, pepe ed un
cucchiaio di olio e, alla fine, unire la panna.
- Spalmarlo sui filetti di trota e arrotolare.
- Avvolgere i filetti arrotolati in una pellicola da
cucina e porli in frigorifero per circa mezz’ora.
- Successivamente, tagliarli a fette di circa 2
cm., passarli nella farina e cuocere in padella
con dell’olio, finchè non saranno dorati.
- Bagnarli con il vino bianco e terminare la cottura.
ZUBEREITUNG
- Die Forellenfilets leicht salzen und mit den Spinatblättern belegen.
- Die Seebarschfilets mit der Karotte, dem Zucchino,
Salz, Pfeffer und einem Esslöffel Olivenöl im Mixer
zerkleinern, und am Ende die Sahne hinzugeben.
- Die Masse auf die Forellenfilets streichen und diese
einrollen.
- Die Röllchen mit Küchenfolie umwickeln und ca. eine
halbe Stunde im Kühlschrank ruhen lassen.
- Anschließend in ca. 2 cm dicke Scheiben schneiden,
in Mehl wenden und mit Öl in der Pfanne goldgelb
braten.
- Mit dem Weißwein beträufeln und fertig kochen.
PREPARATION
- Lightly salt the trout fillets and cover with spinach
leaves.
- Mix the perch fillets in a blender with the carrot,
courgette, salt, pepper and a tablespoon of olive oil,
then, add the cream.
- Spread the mixture on the trout fillets and roll up.
- Wrap the fillets in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for about half an hour.
- Then cut into slices about 2 cm each, dip in flour and
simmer in a pan with oil until golden brown.
- Moisten with white wine and finish cooking.
