The “Test Transponder” equipment can be installed in the vicinities of the airport and it supplies continuous information concerning the correct functionality of the SSR to the aim of the safety of the air traffic. The equipment is already predisposed for the new functionalities (Mode S) that will be utilised in short time under the disposition of the ICAO and Eurocontrol, International Agencies devoted to the Air Traffic Control for the rules and the safety of the national and international flights. The equipment is completely programmable and comes turnkey supplied provided of transmission systems and infrastructures in single or double configuration . The Test Transponder unit is an equipment for ATC (Air Traffic Control) systems that permits to on-line check the SSR functionality because, when installed in a known position, it responds to radar interrogations with the same massage format of an avionic transponder with user programmable replay codes. The unit has been designed with modular architecture and in compliance with ICAO requirements for mode 3/A, C and S (levels elementary 1-2 e level enhanced 3). The user can enable/disable the mode S funtionality, so the test transponder can simulate a target with identity code and quote user defined (if only mode A/C are enabled) or a target with mode S reply user defined (if mode S is enabled). 17 Mesar s.r.l. The test transponder can be managed from local, by means of a touch screen control panel, or from remote, by means of a redundant ethernet connection TCP/IP. In redundant systems, the units can share the same antenna (partially redundant system), or every unit can be directly connected to its antenna (completely redundant system). In a partially redundant system, only one unit is normally active and the other one is a reserve that became active only in case of failure of the main test transponder. In the following figure a completely redundant system example is reported. The benefits of the completely redundant system (respect to partially one) are: Operative benefit - The spare unit is not a "cold unit" but, with an opportune delay time in the reply, it can be seen by the SSR as a second test unit, virtually displaced from the first TTU unit . Logistic benefit - The maintenance actions needed to replace an eventually broken unit don't stop the workability of the system. 19 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 SHELTER KIT FOR TEST TRANSPONDER INSTALLATION It is a relatively compact and lightweight shelter, purpose-made to accomodate all the system devices set and the technicians for the normal maintenance. It is easily to assemble it on a metal or cement base and the technical personnel can access into it by a door. The shelter is provided with a thermal insulation walls and an air conditioner system to preserve the internal temperature into the system operative temperature range . The shelter is provided mechanically and electrically preassembled except for the antenna's pole that will be positioned on the place. Four strong hooks placed on the roof make possible to easily transfer it to another place with a normal lift-up machine. The shelter can be dispatched with common terrestrial or marine means of transports. The shelter is available in two different versions: 2x2m and 2.5x2.5m both with 2.9m of height. 20 Mesar s.r.l. In this case, optionally, the shelter can be arranged to lodge a redundant air conditioner system. Rack Standard 19” or Mini Rack 19” Inside the shelter are present a set of 19" standard rack with depth range from 500mm to 800mm and 2105mm maximum height. Depending on the selected system (simple system or redundant system) the basic kit is provided with one or two 19" mini-racks as represented in the following figure. The UPS is outfitted to operate with all common AC power network. Antenna The provided antenna is a flat panel type antenna with a 15dBi gain and +/- 12.5° main beam aperture. The directionality is required to avoid unwanted interrogations issued from the other SSR eventually present nearby. The antenna is equipped with an N-type connector, and preferentially must be used with RG8-type cable or equivalent. Different cable could be used too, but in this case the associated power loss must be carefully considered. Discharge devices To complete the kits, various optionally protection devices are available: • • Current discharger for the antenna to redirect the high energy loads of the lightnings on the RF lines. Voltage discharger to guarantee the dielectric insulation of the devices installed inside the shelter. 23 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 PM672 TRANSPONDER with TARGET GENERATOR L’assieme PM672 è un TRANSPONDER, disponibile in banda S, L, C, X ed utilizzabile, in fase di testing del radar primario, per simulare la presenza di un target posto ad una specifica distanza dal radar, in posizione fissa o in movimento rispetto ad esso. Nello specifico, l’impulso radar ricevuto viene opportunamente elaborato (filtrato, amplificato, eventualmente ritardato temporalmente e shiftato in frequenza) e successivamente ritrasmesso verso il radar. Tramite l’utilizzo di opportune linee di ritardo in fibra ottica, è possibile introdurre sull’eco di ritorno un delay (settabile a step di 20µsec nel range 20÷140µsec) per fare in modo che il target simulato venga visto dal radar shiftato in distanza, ovviando così alle problematiche che l’utilizzo dell’STC (Sensitivity Time Control) compoporterebbe per installazioni del transponder fatte a distanze troppo ravvicinate rispetto al radar. È possibile introdurre sull’eco di ritorno uno shift in frequenza (selezionabile nel range 0.2÷200kHz a step di 1Hz) per fare in modo che l’eco di ritorno venga visto, per effetto doppler, come un oggetto in movimento ad una specifica velocità. Inoltre è possibile agire sui livelli di potenza ricevuta e ritrasmessa settando opportunamente due attenuatori programmabili inseriti sulle linee di ricezione e trasmissione, rispettivamente. 24 Mesar s.r.l. Con riferimento al diagramma a blocchi riportato di sopra, tutta l’elaborazione del segnale radar è effettuata nella sezione RF con la gestione della logica di controllo. Il PC costituisce l’interfaccia tra la logica di controllo ed il monitor LCD/touch screen presente sul pannello frontale ed utilizzato come interfaccia utente, per eseguire le operazioni di settaggio e controllo. 25 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 PM870 S BAND MTI MARKER Il PM870 è un MTI MARKER operante in banda S ed utilizzabile per effettuare l’allineamento del radar primario. Durante il suo funzionamento operativo, l’MTI Marker ritrasmette l’impulso ricevuto dal radar primario introducendo su di esso un effetto doppler, per fare in modo che l’eco di ritorno passi attraverso il filtro MTI del radar e si presenti sul monitor PPI del controllore come un riferimento stazionario. L’MTI Marker, nella sua configurazione standard, si compone di tre parti principali: 1. Antenna 2. Riflettore attivo 3. Alimentatore AC/DC L’antenna è un’antenna a pannello a polarizzazione lineare che viene accorpata al riflettore attivo in un’unica soluzione meccanica, per garantire ingombri ridotti e maggiore facilità di installazione. Per avere la possibilità di lavorare sia in polarizzazione orizzontale che verticale il montaggio dell’antenna sul riflettore è invariante per rotazioni di 90°. Il Riflettore attivo è dotato (dal lato opposto rispetto all’antenna) di appositi supporti per montaggio su palo e, nella sua configurazione tipica, viene alimentato in continua (+12VDC) tramite un alimentatore AC/DC da installazione indoor. 26 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 Opzionalmente il riflettore attivo può essere alimentato con batteria standard da 12VDC per autoveicoli oppure a pannelli solari. Sono disponibili due diverse versioni di riflettore attivo che differiscono tra loro per la possibilità di introdurre o meno una amplificazione ed un delay sull’eco di ritorno. Nella versione più semplice (non amplificata e senza delay) ed economica, il riflettore attivo si presenta come nello schema a blocchi riportato nella figura seguente. Dal punto di vista funzionale, l’impulso radar ricevuto viene rivelato per determinarne la durata temporale e per consentire la sincronizzazione dello sfasamento doppler con la PRF del radar. In particolare, lo sfasamento introdotto è tale da impostare la frequenza doppler ad un valore pari a PRF/2. Al variare della PRF, la frequenza doppler viene automaticamente riadattata al nuovo valore di PRF, evitando così ogni intervento manuale sul dispositivo durante il suo funzionamento operativo. L’elaborazione sulla fase viene fatta sul solo impulso “corto” (durata tipica di 1÷10µsec) per fare in modo che l’impulso lungo, originando un eco di ritorno con fase sempre costante, venga visto dal radar come un bersaglio fisso e quindi cancellato. 27 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 L’altra tipologia di riflettore attivo, consente di inserire una amplificazione ed un delay sull’eco di ritorno. Dal punto di vista funzionale, l’impulso radar ricevuto, dopo essere stato opportunamente filtrato ed amplificato nel front-end, viene rivelato ed elaborato per determinarne la durata temporale: anche in questo caso, un impulso “corto” (durata tipica di 1÷10µsec) viene processato e ritrasmesso al radar mentre un impulso “lungo” viene soppresso (commutando l’antenna su un carico a 50Ohm). Il processamento dell’impulso corto consiste nell’introdurre uno sfasamento doppler che, come nel caso precedente, si sincronizza automaticamente con la PRF del radar, ed un delay. Il delay viene ottenuto con l’utilizzo di un link ottico a modulazione diretta e di un avvolgimento in fibra ottica di opportuna lunghezza (quella corrispondente al ritardo desiderato). La possibilità di poter avere un target shiftato in distanza (rispetto alla posizione fisica di installazione dell’apparato) e di maggiore intensità (rispetto al caso precedente), predilige 28 Mesar s.r.l. Per entrambe le tipologie di MTI Marker, è possibile effettuare il set up ed il monitoraggio sul corretto funzionamento tramite un apposito pannello di controllo, accessibile da uno sportello a tenuta posto nel lato inferiore del riflettore attivo. 29 Mesar s.r.l. Via dei Canneti,5-Pontelucano [email protected] tel. +39.0774.32.65.28 / 32.65.16 PM1074 X BAND MTI MARKER Il PM1074 è un MTI MARKER operante in banda X ed utilizzabile per effettuare l’allineamento del radar primario. Analogamente al PM870 è anch’esso costituito da un’antenna ed un riflettore attivo che vengono accorpati in un’unica soluzione meccanica per garantire ingombri ridotti e maggiore facilità di installazione. In questo caso l’antenna è un paraboloide a polarizzazione circolare con la possibilità di essere configurata per lavorare sia con polarizzazione destrorsa che sinistrorsa. Per quanto riguarda la modalità di installazione, il sistema di alimentazione ed il principio di funzionamento valgono le stesse considerazioni fatte per il caso del PM870. In particolare, anche per questo prodotto sono disponibili due versioni distinte di riflettore attivo che differiscono tra loro per la possibilità di avere o meno un guadagno ed un ritardo sull’eco ritrasmesso, con diverso impatto sulla versatilità di installazione. Le informazioni ricevute, relative alla posizione dell’aeromobile, alla sua quota ed al suo identificativo, vengono raccolte nel centro ATC, fuse eventualmente con altre informazioni (provenienti ad es. da altri radar secondari) e sfruttate per: migliorare l’ affidabilità nei servizi di ATC; estendere il controllo del traffico aereo in zone prive di copertura radar; controllare i veicoli in movimento a terra, nelle zone aeroportuali. Ciascun canale ricevente utilizza un’antenna omnidirezionale ed un ricevitore a demodulazione di inviluppo, per rivelare gli squitter emessi sulla portante di 1090MHz e fornire un segnale video in uscita, che viene successivamente elaborato dalla sezione digitale (scheda processing e single board computer). L’elaboratore digitale effettua la decodifica dei messaggi ADS-B ricevuti e la loro successiva ricodifica nel formato “Asterix cat.21” (richiesto per l’invio dei dati al centro ATC). Inoltre, gestisce lo scambio di messaggi di monitoraggio e controllo utilizzando il protocollo SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). In case of failure or an overload the loads are switched to the emergency ac section Accumulators are always online, they feed the loads in the mean time between the mains failure and the end of generator startup phase. In case of generator failure the batteries feed the loads until they are discharged. The generator is normal off, it substitutes the ac mains only in case of failure or if the mains is out of tolerance. To ensure a good power factor correction the unit generates three sinusoidal current, these currents are squared and their amplitudes depends on loads reactive currents. The section is divided into two sub-sections, a computer unit that reads continuously the load current and determinates the respective contents of harmonic and reactive currents, and a power section that injects the pre-determined harmonic currents with opposite sign. The power section is made up by an impressed voltage inverter, regulated by current PWM The PFC section main features are: ACTIVE OPERATION: The PFC section arranges to real harmonic and reactive situations in real time. The arrangement to current load amplitude variation are very fast, it takes at maximum two mains frequency cycles, so the harmonic attenuation is valid in variable load conditions too. CORRECTION ACTIONS The PFC section generates reactive currents to compensate the reactive power consumption, so the power factor is always on range (cosf=0.95) NOISE PROOF Possible harmonic currents rejected from close users doesn’t affect the PFC section, because the unit doesn’t read them.
