We have an amazing number of activities and events planned
to showcase innovation, Food and drink, agriscience and
many many other things that are all grown in Britain. Britain
is Great for ideas, imagination, creativity and design, and we
plan to show that to the world via Milan Expo 2015.
I have enjoyed my time with my wife Barbara here in Milan,
making new friends and working with the business community
here and I take with me a great many fantastic experiences. At
the top of my list has to be that I attended a Christmas Carols
event at the Duomo, which in my opinion, is one of the two
most impressive buildings I have ever seen.
This year I will spend Christmas with Barbara in a very different
environment to the one you are currently in and we will miss
many things about this glorious country and we both would
like to wish you all, a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New
Expo Year.

I’d like to share my gratitude for the
participation of so many of you at
the community Thanksgiving event.
It was the first Thanksgiving in Milan
with my family that embraced every
aspect of the tradition. I was delighted
to see so many Americans mix and
mingle, laugh, eat, socialize and pay
it forward. Guests who came alone,
and would have spent Thanksgiving
by themselves, walked away at the
end of the evening with new friends.
Others came with their extended
families. Adults and children alike
had smiles on their faces and I had
the biggest one of all, especially as
the pile of gifts for the Toys for Tots
Program kept growing and the tickets
for the charity program sold fast. I
was impressed by the generosity of
our guests who all embraced the true
spirit of Thanksgiving.
We are pleased to publish a
Christmas message from Vic Annells,
HM British Consul General and his
wife Barbara who also announce
their departure as their tour in Milan
comes to an end. We are thankful for
their friendship over the past three
years and we wish them well as they
embark on their new assignment in
Saudi Arabia.

Pudding
The Christmas pudding has its
origins in medieval England, and
is sometimes known as ‘plum
pudding’. Despite the name, it
contains no actual plums, but
dried fruit.
Preparation time 30 mins.
Cook time 10 - 30 mins.
Ingredients

• butter, for greasing
• handful fresh breadcumbs
• 1 free-range egg
• 4 tsp mincemeat
• 2 tsp soft brown sugar
• ¼ nutmeg, grated
• ¼ tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp ground mixed spice
• 1 orange, zest only
• 1 tsp stout ale
• small knob of butter
• 30g mixed dried fruit
• 4 tsp brandy
Method
Preheat oven to 175 degrees
Celsius.
Mix all the ingredients, except
the brandy, in a bowl until well
combined. Spoon the mixture
into the pudding bowl, cover with
greaseproof paper and cook in
the microwave on full power for
one minute.
Transfer the pudding to the
oven and bake for a further 8-10
minutes.
Prepare a steamer, then steam
the puddings for 8-10 minutes, or
until cooked through.
To serve, turn the pudding out
onto a serving plate and pour
over the brandy.
Tip: To flame, warm the brandy
in a small pan, pour it over the
pudding and set light to it.
