Verdi» di Milano. Iniziò la carriera concertistica poco più che decenne, con vivo successo di critica e di pubblico. Tenne concerti in Italia ed in Europa, riscuotendo sempre i massimi consensi. Dedicò la sua vita all’arte pianistica e fondò a Monza una rinomata scuola di pianoforte. Nel 1947 organizzò il primo concorso pianistico di Monza in collaborazione con Benedetti Michelangeli ed altri esponenti del mondo musicale italiano, tra i quali Tagliapietra, Gorini, Sanzogno, Vidusso, Mozzati e Margola. A questo ne seguirono altri nel 1949 e nel 1967. Dal 1970 il concorso, divenuto biennale, è a suo nome e dal 2009 è membro della Federazione Mondiale dei Concorsi Internazionali di Musica. Rina Sala Gallo (1898-1980) was the pet pupil of Giovanni Anfossi, under whose tutelage she graduated, at a very young age, and with special commendation, from the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan. She began her concert career at around the age of ten with great critical and public success, and went on to give concerts in Italy and in Europe, always earning maximum acclaim. Sala Gallo dedicated her life to the Art of Piano, and founded a renowned piano school in Monza. In 1947, she organized the first Piano Competition in Monza in collaboration with Benedetti Michelangeli and other exponents of the Italian musical world, such as Tagliapietra, Gorini, Sanzogno, Vidusso, Mozzati and Margola. This was followed by two further editions in 1949 and 1967. From 1970 the Competition, having become biennial, took her name and has been since 2009 a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. Possono partecipare pianisti di ogni nazionalità nati tra il 27 settembre 1999 e il 5 ottobre 1985 che non abbiano già vinto il 1° premio in una delle precedenti edizioni. 3. La partecipazione al concorso è subordinata all’accettazione del regolamento e delle decisioni della giuria che sono inappellabili. In caso di reclami o contestazioni avrà valore il testo italiano del regolamento. Il candidato dichiara di permettere la registrazione audio e/o video di ogni esecuzione, anche parziale, e la eventuale sua futura trasmissione in ogni tipo di media. Dichiara inoltre di rinunciare a qualsiasi compenso relativo all’uso del materiale registrato, incluso il DVD inviato con l’iscrizione. 4. I componenti della giuria non possono avere allievi, ex allievi (ai quali abbiano dato lezione nei due anni precedenti il concorso) o parenti fra i partecipanti. Questa norma non si applica nel caso di master classes. 5. Le prove pubbliche del concorso saranno precedute da una selezione a porte chiuse, basata sull’esame di un DVD inviato dai candidati stessi. I trenta concorrenti selezionati parteciperanno alla 1ª e alla 2ª prova. Alla 3ª prova parteciperanno sei concorrenti e alla prova finale tre. Tutti i concorrenti, se lo desidereranno, saranno ospitati gratuitamente presso famiglie e avranno a disposizione un pianoforte per lo studio durante la loro partecipazione al concorso. Eventuali accompagnatori dovranno provvedere personalmente alle spese di soggiorno. 4. | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | Regolamento 6. I concorrenti selezionati dovranno presentarsi per la registrazione presso il Teatro Manzoni il giorno 26 settembre dalle ore 9 alle ore 17. Alle ore 17.30 dovranno inoltre essere presenti al sorteggio per l’ordine di esecuzione delle prove. Coloro che, per validi motivi, non potessero essere presenti, potranno essere ammessi alle prove solo ad insindacabile giudizio della giuria dietro presentazione anticipata di una giustificazione motivata ed occuperanno nell’ordine di esecuzione della prima prova il posto loro assegnato dalla giuria stessa. 7. I partecipanti alla 3ª prova non ammessi alla finale riceveranno un rimborso spese di 5 500. 8. I premi non possono essere assegnati ex-aequo. 9. Il pubblico è ammesso allo svolgimento integrale delle prove e nel corso della finale potrà assegnare una borsa di studio ad uno dei finalisti. 10.I vincitori dovranno esibirsi gratuitamente nel concerto dei vincitori, pena l’annullamento del premio. ISCRIZIONI 11.Le iscrizioni, per motivi organizzativi, sono limitate a 150 e avvengono esclusivamente tramite il sito web www.concorsosalagallo.it dal 10 gennaio al 31 marzo 2014, salvo il raggiungimento anticipato del numero massimo di iscrizioni. Per iscriversi è necessario registrarsi, ricevere una conferma di registrazione ed effettuare il login. La quota d’iscrizione è di . 45 non rimborsabili. Una volta compilato il modulo d’iscrizione e pagata la quota, verrà inviata al concorrente una mail di conferma contenente il numero di iscrizione. Tale numero dovrà essere riportato sul DVD con pennarello indelebile. Regolamento SELEZIONE DEI DVD 13.L’esame dei DVD sarà effettuato da una giuria internazionale, che sceglierà non più di trenta concorrenti da ammettere al Concorso. 14.Il DVD, di buona qualità, deve contenere: a. Un preludio e fuga dal Clavicembalo ben Temperato di J. S. Bach b. Uno studio di Chopin c. Uno studio scelto tra quelli di Liszt, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Ligeti e Godowsky d. Un brano a scelta del candidato di durata non superiore a 5 minuti e. Il numero d’iscrizione riportato con pennarello indelebile Nel DVD le mani e il volto del candidato devono essere sempre visibili e l’angolo di ripresa fisso. La registrazione deve essere effettuata senza pubblico, senza montaggio, tagli e interruzioni. PROGRAMMA DELLE PROVE 15.Prima prova (27-28 settembre) a. Mozart Una sonata b. Una composizione scelta fra: Schubert Sonate, Fantasia op.15 Chopin Sonate Liszt Sonata in si min. Schumann Sonate, Carnaval op.9, Kreisleriana, Fantasia, Studi sinfonici, Humoresque, Davidsbündlertänze Brahms Sonate, Variazioni sopra un tema di Händel, Variazioni su un tema di Paganini (1° e 2° vol.) Nelle prime due prove non devono essere eseguiti i ritornelli. 17.Terza Prova (2 ottobre) Un programma da concerto di durata compresa tra 50 e 60 min. nel quale non possono essere incluse composizioni già presentate nelle prove precedenti. Deve essere invece inclusa almeno una importante composizione scritta dopo il 1900. Il candidato che volesse concorrere al premio Bach dovrà presentare almeno una composizione originale o trascritta di J. S. GIURIA 19.Il presidente e i componenti della giuria vengono nominati, su proposta del direttore artistico, dalla Giunta Tecnica del Comitato del Concorso, la quale, in caso di necessità, potrà nominare eventuali sostituti. Nella prima riunione della giuria il Presidente nomina un Vice-Presidente. 20.Condizione per far parte della giuria è l’accettazione del presente regolamento. 21.I componenti della giuria non possono avere allievi, ex allievi (ai quali abbiano dato lezione nei due anni precedenti il concorso) o parenti fra i partecipanti. Questa norma non si applica nel caso di master classes. 22.Ai lavori della giuria partecipa, senza diritto di voto, un segretario. Possono inoltre assistere, sempre senza diritto di voto, il presidente e/o un membro dell’Associazione Musicale Rina Sala Gallo, e eventuali interpreti. 23.Di ogni atto e decisione della giuria o di membri della giuria viene redatto verbale che deve essere sottoscritto dal presidente della giuria o da chi ne fa le veci. I verbali e i voti possono essere consultati presso la segreteria del concorso al termine dello stesso. 24.I membri della giuria non possono avere contatti diretti o indiretti con i concorrenti finché questi partecipano al concorso. Devono però essere disponibili ad incontrare i concorrenti eliminati che ne fanno richiesta. | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | 7. REGOLAMENTO CRITERI DI VALUTAZIONE 25.La giuria della preselezione è costituita da tre membri di cui almeno due facenti parte della giuria del concorso. 26.Nella preselezione i giurati decidono l’ammissibilità al concorso di un massimo di trenta iscritti. 27.Nella prima e seconda prova del concorso i concorrenti selezionati vengono valutati con voti da 3 a 10, frazionabili in quarti di punto (0,25/0,50/0,75) attribuiti segretamente. Per ogni prova si forma una graduatoria determinata dalla media dei voti riportati da ciascun concorrente, escludendo, una sola volta, il voto più basso e il voto più alto. Al termine della seconda prova verrà stilata anche una graduatoria risultante dalla media dei voti ottenuti nelle due prove. Questa graduatoria indicherà i sei concorrenti ammessi alla terza prova. 28.Nella terza prova i voti disponibili vanno da 6 a 10 sempre frazionabili in quarti di punto e attribuiti segretamente. La graduatoria per il passaggio alla finale è data dalla media dei voti ottenuti nelle tre prove, e sarà fornita ai giurati. 29.Alla prova finale partecipano tre concorrenti. Al termine della prova la giuria decide a chi assegnare i premi previsti. L’eventuale mancata assegnazione del primo premio dovrà essere deliberata all’unanimità. 30.Tutte le votazioni, di cui gli articoli 27-28, verranno effettuate con votazione istantanea a mezzo tablet (iPad, Galaxy ecc.). 8. | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | Competition rules GENERAL INFORMATION 1. The 23 International Rina Sala Gallo Piano Competition will be held in Monza at Teatro Manzoni from September 27th to October 5th 2014. rd IMPORTANT DATES (2014) JANUARY 10 Application submission date and mailing of DVD. MARCH 31st Deadline for submitting application; no more than 150 applications will be accepted. APRIL 30th Publication of the names of the 30 selected candidates. MAY 31 The selected candidates must finalize their applications. th st SEPTEMBER 26th Registration, and the drawing of lots to determine the performance order. SEPTEMBER 27th - 28th1st Round SEP 29th - OCT 1st OCTOBER 2nd 3rd Round OCTOBER 4th Final Round and announcement of the Prizewinners. OCTOBER 5th Awards Ceremony and Prizewinners’ Concert. 2nd Round 2. The Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities who are born between October 5th 1985 and September 27th 1999. First-Prize winners of previous Rina Sala Gallo Competitions are not eligible to participate. 3. Participation in the Competition entails the acceptance by the contestant of all the competition rules and regulations, and of the decisions of the jury which are final. The original Italian version of these rules governs all eventualities and potential disputes. By participating in the Competition, the candidate agrees to allow a full or partial audio/video recording to be made of every performance. The participant (candidate) also grants the Competition organizers full rights to use such recordings and/ or extracts thereof, including any DVD submitted by the candidate, for all media broadcasts. These rights shall be granted free of charge as a condition of participating in the Competition. 4. Current pupils of any member of the jury are excluded from participation in the Competition. Participants who have been pupils of any member of the jury within the two years preceding the start of the Competition are also excluded from any participation. Participants who have had masterclasses with any of the jury members are allowed to participate. Relatives of jury members are excluded from participation. | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | 9. Competition rules 5. Prior to the start of the Competition, a maximum number of thirty participants will be selected for the first two Rounds; the basis of this selection being a review of the DVDs submitted by the candidates themselves. Six contestants will be chosen to participate in the 3rd Round, and three will be chosen for the Final Round. All contestants admitted to the Competition will be provided, should they so desire, with free accommodation with a host family, as well as practice facilities for the duration of their participation in the competition. Persons accompanying the participants will have to make their own accommodation arrangements. 6. All admitted candidates are required to present themselves for registration at the Teatro Manzoni in Monza on September 26th 2014 between 9am and 5pm. At 5:30pm, all participants must attend the drawing of lots for the performance/ running order, and this attendance is obligatory. If, during this process, a candidate has given advance warning, and/or a valid reason, such as accident or illness, for his/her absence, the candidate may still be admitted by a jury decision, and will perform in the 1st Round in the order decided by the jury. 7. Participants in the 3rd Round who are not admitted to the Final Round will receive 5 500 towards their expenses. 8. Joint prizes will not be awarded. 9. The Competition is open to the public during all the Rounds and, during the Final Round, the audience may award a scholarship by voting for its favorite Finalist. 10.Prizewinners must give a free performance at the Winners’ Concert lest they forfeit their prize. APPLICATIONS 11.Due to organizational reasons, applications, limited to the first 150 received, must be submitted exclusively online via the Competition URL www.concorsosalagallo.it, between January 10th and March 31st 2014, up until the maximum registered number on a first-come first-served basis. A non-refundable payment of 5 45 is required. Once the application form has been filled out online, and the required fee has been paid, the participant will recieve a confirmatory E-mail containing a sequence number. This number must then be written on the DVD using indelible ink. The DVD must be sent by March 31st, 2014 via courrier (DHL, Express etc). This notification may be used, if required, for visa application purposes. The applicants should finalize their applications no later than May 31st 2014, using the same login details and filling out a second online form, by remitting a further non-refundable payment of 5 100. No changes to submitted repertoire/programmes will be accepted later than June 30th 2014. DVD SELECTION 13.An international jury will decide, based on the submitted DVD of the candidate’s playing, who shall be admitted to the Competition, and no more than thirty participants will be chosen. 14.The DVD must include, in the following order: a. A Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier (Books I and II) by Johann Sebastian Bach. b. A Chopin Étude c. An Étude by Liszt, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Ligeti or Godowsky. d. A work of the candidate’s choice, of no longer than 5 minutes’ duration. e. The sequence number, as provided by the website, should be written on the DVD using indelible ink. On the DVD video, the candidate’s hands and face must be visible at all times on the screen; the camera angle must be fixed and the recording must be made without an audience, and without breaks during the performance. No editing or other technical manipulation is allowed. In addition, at least one major piano work written after 1900 must be included. The candidate who wishes to compete for the Bach Prize must present at least one original work, or transcription thereof, by Johann Sebastian Bach in the Third Round. 18.Final Round (October 4th 2014) One concerto chosen by the applicant from the following: Mozart: K453, K466, K488, K491, K503, K537, and K595 Beethoven: Concertos Nos. 3, 4 & 5 Mendelssohn: Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Chopin: Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Schumann: Concerto Op.54 Brahms: Concerto No.1 Liszt: Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Tchaikovsky: Concerto No.1 Grieg: Concerto Op.16 Scriabin: Concerto Op.20 Rachmaninoff: Concertos Nos. 2, 3 & 4 Ravel: Concerto in G major The Winners’ Concert will take place on Sunday, October 5th 2014 at the Teatro Manzoni JURY 19.The President as well as the members of the jury are appointed by the Technical Junta of the Committee, on the recommendation of the Artistic Director. If necessary, other members can be appointed by the Technical Junta to take part in the jury. During the first jury meeting the President will appoint a Vice-President. 12 . | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | Competition rules 20.Conditional to being part of the jury is the acceptance of these rules and regulations. 21.The members of the jury may not have any pupils or ex-pupils (to whom they have given regular lessons in the two years prior to the start of the Competition) or have any relatives among the participants. This does not apply to members of the jury who have only taught a contestant during masterclasses. 22.A secretary appointed by the organizers may assist in the administrative work of the jury, without having the right to vote. The President, and/or a Member, of the Associazione Musicale Rina Sala Gallo, as well as eventual interpreters may also assist without the right to vote. 23.Minutes will be taken of any action or decision by the jury, or members thereof. Such minutes must be signed by the President or his substitute. Both minutes and marks can be consulted in the Secretary’s Office at the end of the Competition. 24.The members of the jury shall refrain from having any contact, direct or indirect, with any candidates during their participation in the Competition. The eliminated contestants, upon their request, will have the opportunity of meeting members of the jury to discuss their performances. EVALUATION 25.The jury of the preliminary DVD evaluation will consist of three members, of whom at least two will form part of the jury of the Competition. 26.During the DVD evaluation, the jury members will decide to admit to the Competition a maximum of thirty candidates. 27. During the First and the Second Rounds, the participants will be judged according to a marking system between 3 and 10, divisible into quarter units (0.25, 0.50, or 0.75). Marks will be given anonymously. For each Round, a pass-list will be established that is determined by the average mark of each participant, and it will exclude both the lowest and the highest marks. At the end of the Second Round, a pass-list for entry into the Third Round will be established by taking the average of the marks from both Rounds. This pass-list will indicate the six candidates admitted for entry into the Third Round. 28.In the Third Round the marks will run between 6 and 10, always divisible into quarter units, and will be given anonymously. The pass-list for entry into the Final is determined by the average of the marks achieved during all three previous Rounds and will then be submitted to all the jury members. 29.Three candidates will take part in the Final Round, at the end of which the jury shall decide whom the prizes will be assigned to. Any decision not to award a First Prize must be unanimous. 30.All votes, as per articles 27-28, will be registered instantaneously by means of a tablet (iPad, Galaxy etc.). | 23° Concorso Pianistico Internazionale | 13 .
