Edition 2015 The Giliola Gamberini Award is promoted by Centro di Visualizzazione Biomedica (formerly Scuola Superiore di Disegno Anatomico of Bologna University) and by AEIMS (Association Européenne des Illustrateurs Médicaux et Scientifiques). The aim of the prize, named after Giliola Gamberini, is to keep alive her work and memory, while promoting the profession of medical-scientific illustrator and the use of illustrations in a clinical and professional setting. The competition is open to professional illustrators in the medical and scientific fields and to students attending specialist schools for scientific illustration. The competition topic is the “Musculoskeletal Illustrative View”. Giliola was a technician and lecturer in medical-scientific illustration at the Scuola Superiore di Disegno Anatomico, Bologna University, for over 30 years, contributing to the promotion of this unique and fascinating profession. Giliola was also a founder member of AEIMS, the European Association of Medical-Scientific Illustrators, to which she dedicated unstinting passion. An exhibition will be staged at the “Luigi Cattaneo” Anatomical Wax Museum at Bologna University and a catalogue will be printed showing the artwork selected by the jury. Competition winners in both categories (professional and student) will receive an Apple iPad as a prize. Entries and submissions to the competition are solely via registration online and shall be made by 22 March 2015, midnight CET. The prize-winning ceremony will take place in Bologna (Italy) on a date in April/May 2015 yet to be decided. Entry is free of charge. The Award is organized in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences of Bologna University and with Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli of Bologna.
