The future of urbanity Ravenna, 1-5 settembre // september 2014 Presentazione Presentation Che la popolazione mondiale sia ormai prevalentemente urbana, per la prima volta della storia dell'umanità, non è più una novità da qualche anno. Quel che è meno noto è il fatto che le statistiche fanno riferimento a un idea di città ormai sorpassata da ben più tempo. The fact that the world population is predominantly urban now, for the first time in human history, it is no longer a novelty for a few years. What is less known is the fact that the statistics refer to a concept of the city now out for well over time. A dire il vero, il senso del termine ‘città’ è decisamente mutato. La stessa tematica del patrimonio culturale urbano interessa sempre più paesi di tutti i continenti. Il tema delle città creative, si è molto sviluppato e articolato da quando venne formulato negli anni ottanta. In questo ambito rientrano certamente programmi come le capitali europee della cultura che, fin dal 1985, costituiscono ancora un traguardo ambito per molte municipalità. Questo tema però riguarda anche altri fenomeni, meno visibili ma non meno importanti. Fenomeni che rivelano una volontà diffusa, acutizzata dalla crisi, di assumere sempre più un ruolo di cittadinanza attiva. La Summer School dell'Università di Bologna – Campus di Ravenna, in coordinamento con la Summer University dell'ISES (Institute for Social and European Studies dell'Università Corvinus di Budapest) declina questa tematica affrontando ambedue i percorsi, le città creative più tradizionalmente intese e le nuove «comunità creative», unendo le prospettive teorico-metodologiche all'analisi e allo sviluppo di concreti casi di studio, con il duplice obiettivo di formare annualmente giovani studiosi a questa nuova visione dell'urbano, stimolandoli ad applicare quanto appreso ai propri ambiti studio e d'intervento, e di favorire il dibattito e lo scambio critico tra studenti e esperti e fra gli stessi studiosi. L'area geografica su cui si concentrerà principalmente il programma sarà il Mediterraneo (di cui la macro-regione Adriatico-ionica rappresenta l'ambito d'interesse più immediato e specifico), mentre il partner ISES metterà a disposizione del programma la sua lunga esperienza di ricerca e formazione sull'area dell'europa centrale. The meaning of city indeed changed dramatically. The issue of urban cultural heritage itself concerns more and more countries of all continents. The theme of «creative cities» has been very developed and articulated since it was formulated, in particular by Charles Landry, in the eighties. Programs like the European Capitals of Culture certainly belong to this field, which are still a great ambition for many municipalities since 1985. This theme, in a broad sense, also applies to other phenomena, less visible but no less important: those that reveal a general willingness, exacerbated by the crisis, to assume more and more a role of active citizenship. The Summer School of Bologna University – Ravenna Campus, in coordination with the ISES Summer University (Institute for Social and European Studies and Corvinus University of Budapest), addresses this issue by following both paths: creative cities more traditionally designed, and new «creative communities», combining the theoretical and methodological perspectives with the analysis and development of practical case studies. The annual Summer School has the dual aim to train young scholars in this new vision of the urban, encouraging them to apply the new knowledge to their areas of study and intervention, and to foster debate and critical exchange between experts, scholars, and students.
