nel titolo Donne che cantano Sondheim interpretato da Angela Lansbury
e Deborah Monk. I suoi riconoscimenti includono la borsa di studio Curt

Hailed as “a theatrical performer whose rise to watch” (opera News) and
a dusky-toned mezzo” (New York Times), she is currently a member of
the Ensemble of the Hamburgische Staatsoper making such role debuts
as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rosina in Barbiere di Siviglia,
Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Dryad in Ariadne auf Naxos, Page in
Salome, and The Countess of Essex in Gloriana. Flora in La Traviata,
Second Lady in die Zauberflöte, Bellante in Händel’s Almira which she
then premiered at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alte Musik in the
summer of 2014.
This coming season Rebecca premieres the role of Oreste in
Offenbach’s La Belle Hélene in Hamburg which will appear on ARTE TV,
sings with the CPE Bach Chor as the Alto soloist in Bach’s MarkusPassion, and debuts with the Dutch National Opera in Berg’s Lulu
conducted by Fabio Luisi and directed by William Kentridge.
In the summer of 2013 Rebecca was a finalist at the international
Belvedere Competitionin Amsterdam and in the summer of 2012 she
made her Festival d’Aix-en-Provence debut in the world premiere of
George Benjamin’s Written on Skin and is subsequently featured on the
CD and DVD. In the 2010-2011 season she made her debuts at the
Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Teatro Regio di Torino as well as her
debut at Dallas Opera as Fyordor in Boris Godunov. While in Berlin she
also continued her close relationship with the music of Kurt Weill
performing in concerts with the Kurt Weill Fest in Dessau and the Brecht
Festival in Augsburg.
Engagements for the 2009-10 season included her Ravinia debut singing
Bessie in Kurt Weill’s Mahagonny Songspiel under the baton of Maestro
James Conlon, performances as the Second Fairy in Mendelssohn’s
Midsummer Night’s Dream with the New York City Ballet, performances
with the New York Festival of Song at both Caramoor and Merkin Hall,
workshopping the role of Hermia in The Enchanted Island with the
Metropolitan Opera, Annina in Traviata at Glimmerglass Opera, her
Carnegie Hall debut as the alto soloist in Bach’s Bminor Mass, as well as
making her Alice Tully Hall debut with the Riverside Symphony singing
Bolcom’s acclaimed Cabaret Songs.
Other operatic roles include Meg Page in Falstaff, Jenny in The Rise and
Fall of the Cityof Mahagonny, Elmire in Tartuffe, Paquette in Candide,
Madame Brillante in L’Italiana inLondra, Dorthée in Cendrillon, and
Second Witch and The Spirit, in Dido and Aeneas. She has performed
with the Mark Morris Dance Company, the New York Festival of Song,
the New Hampshire Symphony, the Tanglewood Music Center, at
Central City Opera, and with the Aspen Opera Theatre.
A champion of new music, Rebecca Jo has recorded the songs of both
Stephan Wolpe and Ursula Monk with Bridge Records and performed
songs of Wolpe in Weill Concert Hall. She performed roles in Lucrezia
and Bastianello (operas commissioned for the New York Festival of Song
by William Bolcom and John Musto, respectively) at the Moab Music
Festival, the role of the Swiss Grandmother in John Adams’ Death
Klinghoffer with Mr. Adams conducting, and the songs of Tom Cipullo
and Ricky Ian Gordon with the composers at the piano.
Equally at home in musical theater, Rebecca Jo has performed with the
Boston Pops as Carrie in Carousel and Petra in A Little Night Music, to
critical acclaim. She also made her Broadway debut in a benefit entitled
Ladies Who Sing Sondheim starring Angela Lansbury and Deborah
Monk. Her awards include the Curt Englehorn Scholarship from the
Opera Foundation, First Prize in the Lotte Lenya Competition, a 2009
Career Bridges Grant, the Ginney and John Starkey Young Artist Awards
at Central City Opera, and the Stanley Medal from the University of
Michigan.
