CONCEPT SPACE 発足35周年記念企画 CONCEPT SPACE The 35th Anniversary Programme 【Born in 1982】 【1982年に生まれて】 AIS (Art Institute Shibukawa) together with CONCEPT SPACE is pleased to announce its next programme【Born in 1982】,a series of exhibitions to celebrate the 35th anniversary of CONCEPT SPACE, which was established in 1982. With the stated aim of being A Place to Live / A Place to Create / A Place to Plan / A Place to Express at the same time, CONCEPT SPACE has been functioning in its distinctive setting - a 10 tatami-matted popular post-War Japanese apartment called Nagaya' sometime house, art studio, and exhibition space. 2016-2017 marks the 35th anniversary of CONCEPT SPACE since its establishment in 1982. It has drawn acclaim through staging over 150 contemporary art exhibitions and curations, and exchange programmes between national/international high profile contemporary artists. As well as inviting a number of international artists to exhibit such as Roger Ackling (exhibited 23 times); Richard Serra (exhibited 3 times); Carl Andre (exhibited twice); and Imi Knoebel (exhibited twice), CONCEPT SPACE has continued its catering curation of contemporary art in cooperation with the Shibukawa City Council. Outputs from this include Shibukawa Triennial Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture (1985-1993), SUKI-MONO-TACHI: Ways Since Rin-pa at the listed Meiji era RINKOU-KAKU Pavilion, Open Eyes = Open Mind which explores the possibility of art within a modern office building, and The Play of The Plan which is concerned with curation and exhibition making. This series involves either inviting emerging artists born in 1982 like CONCEPT SPACE or exhibiting artworks created in 1982 . We aim to use this opportunity - whilst looking back at the long-term achievement of CONCEPT SPACE - to find a future direction for the new generation though exhibiting various types of contemporary art activities in succession. Through communication with visitors and viewers, we also hope that this programme will be able to offer a new way for art within the everyday life .
