Honda は、
４ストローク船外機をすべて静岡県の細江工場で生産
し、北米、欧州の２大市場を中心に世界に供給しています。１号機
の GB30 発売（1964 年）以来一貫して、創業者の「水上を走
るもの、水を汚すべからず」を理念とし、環境負荷の少ない 4 ストロー
ク船外機を他社に先駆け開発・生産しています。ラインアップは 2
馬力（BF2）から 250 馬力（BF250）まで 20 機種。いずれも「人
と環境に優しい経済的で高品質な 4 ストローク船外機」を基本コン
セプトとし、それを実現するためにさまざまな技術が注がれています。
地球環境保護に向けて船外機の排出ガス規制が強化されるな
か、Honda は 4 輪・2 輪で培った先進の燃焼コントロール技術で
ある PGM-FI 電子燃料噴射システムや VTEC（可変バルブタイミ
ング･リフト機構）
、リーンバーン（希薄燃焼）
、そして Honda 船外
機独自技術である BLAST（空燃比連動点火時期制御）など、先
進技術を世界に先駆けて船外機に採用。高出力と低燃費を高い
次元で両立させることにより、Honda 船外機は世界中で高い満足
度を獲得しています。
Honda 船外機の全ての機種は、EPA（米国環境保護庁）や
CARB（米国カリフォルニア大気資源局）
、EU RCD（レクリエーショ
ン船舶指令）などの世界で最も厳しい排出ガス規制をクリアしていま
す。

Design Concept: “Easy on People and the Environment”
Honda outboard engines feature a smooth flowing form and silver color that reflects the surrounding
environment to express the integration of people and nature. The techniques used to incorporate
a 4-stroke engine in a compact package and design that combines functionality and beauty have
received high acclaim overseas. A wedge shaped design has been adopted for the BF60 that
features BLAST technology, projecting an image of the best-in-class acceleration.

Honda produces all of its 4-stroke outboard engines at its Hosoe
Plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, and supplies them to North
America and Europe, the two main markets, as well as to other
markets around the world. Ever since the introduction of the GB30
in 1964 (first model), Honda has pioneered the development and
production of 4-stroke outboard engines with a low impact on the
environment based on the philosophy of our founder that “Watercraft
should not pollute the waters they ply.” Our lineup consists of 20
models, from the 2 horsepower BF2 to the 250 horsepower BF250.
They all incorporate a wide variety of technologies based on the
concepts of being “environmentally and people friendly, economical
and high-quality outboard engines.”
Exhaust gas emission regulations for outboard engines are being
strengthened in order to protect the global environment. Honda was
one of the first companies to incorporate advanced technology in
outboard engines, based on technology it developed for automobiles
and motorcycles, such as the PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection)
system featuring advanced combustion control, VTEC (Variable Valve
Timing and Life Electronic Control), lean burn control (high air-fuel
combustion ratio) and Honda’s unique BLAST (Boosted Low Speed
Torque) outboard engine technology. Honda outboard engines have
achieved an unparalleled level of customer satisfaction around the
globe by providing high output and outstanding fuel efficiency.
All Honda outboard engine models clear the most stringent exhaust
gas emissions regulations, including the EPA (Environmental
Protection Agency), CARB (California Air Resources Board) and EU
RCD (European Union Recreational Craft Directive).

Honda 4-Stroke Outboard Engines
All outboard engines discharge exhaust gas into the water. Since 2-stroke engines
burn a mixture of gasoline and oil, this means that oil is discharged into the water.
The GB30 was developed at a time when all outboard engines were 2-stroke,
and 4-stroke engines were not considered feasible because of the large handicap
due to the power weight ratio. Honda was the first company to clear the Boden
Lake regulations in 1993 (first exhaust gas regulations for outboard engines in the
world), and received considerable attention as a result. Currently, over 60% of all
outboard engines are 4-stroke type. The history of 4-stroke outboard engines is
synonymous with the history of Honda outboard engines.

BLAST (Boosted Low Speed Torque)
This feature consists of intelligent technology. The minimum amount
of gasoline required is injected during normal operation to boost
fuel economy, and optimum control of the fuel injection volume and
injection timing is performed during acceleration to enable acceleration
performance to be enhanced.
