(There are certain treatments not covered by PHIP) • Medical Insurance Card (保険証“Hoken shou”) – You will receive a Hoken shou card from the school. You must present it at the reception of a medical institution at every visit. It is advised to carry it when you travel within Japan. Please prepare to be able to write your name in Hiragana/Katakana. Hanko (seal or stamp) Used as a substitute for signatures There are two types, general and registered. You can use a general seal for banking, but not a self-inking type. The cost will be covered by Shigaku Zaidan only for up to two weeks. You will need to find your apartment while staying at the weekly mansion. • Finding an apartment (1) JETs own responsibility (2) Ask GTN (Global Trust Network) for support (3) Use school employee residence (only if available) • Must know: for Living in Japan Do not remodel/renovate your room, unless it is stipulated in the contract. Do not sublet, or let anyone live unless stipulated in the contract. Do not party too often. Tokyo apartment is not spacious. Your contract is only for your stay. Your JET successor will not use the same room. You have an obligation of restoration! (location, size, layout, rent, establishment, etc…) • Get several choices from the agent • Check out apartment in person Receive a copy! • Fill out application form • Get the explanation of important details from the real estate agent Before signing the rental agreement, have the real estate agent explain the important rental agreement points to you. If there is something you do not understand, ask questions until you understand them well. • Sign rental agreement Receive a copy! The rental agreement is a document that specifies the promises between the landlord and the tenant. Read the terms of the rental agreement, have the agent explain to you, and sign the agreement only after you understand the terms well. Signing the rental agreement means that you understand its terms and conditions and will observe them.
