ＦＣＣＪ年次総会：継続と発展
The eleventh FCCJ Annual General Assembly was
held on Tuesday 6 April at the Embassy of Finland
attended by 40 chamber members and members
of its Board of Trustees.
４月６日、第１１回年次総会がフィンランド大使館
にて開催されました。出席者はメンバーおよび理事
ら４０名。

After the assembly proceedings, the members
could enjoy a delicious dinner hosted by
Ambassador Jari Gustafsson, who also gave a brief
update on current affairs in the relations between
Finland and Japan.
During the dinner the Member Survey conducted in
March was presented and created a lively discussion
(more about the member survey on page 4).

FCCJ retains the Stora Enso Cup!
The 16th Stora Enso Cup, the golf challenge
between the Swedish and Finnish Chamber’s was
played on Friday, 16 April at Taiheiyo Club - Narita
Course in Chiba Prefecture. Despite very cold
weather and some rain, the competitors enjoyed
the friendly game. 27 players participated in
the competition (13 from FCCJ , 14 from SCCJ,
including one guest.
The Finnish Chamber came on top now for the
fourth time in a row, this time beating the Swedish
Chamber by a fairly large margin, 4.7 strokes on
average per player, 79.0 versus 83.7 as average
for the best 80% in each team. This was the eigth
time the FCCJ won, but the tams are now “all
square” as the SCCJ has also eight victories.
The individual winner (best net) was Kimio
Hashida (FCCJ), net 72 (gross 90). He
also took the FCCJ Golf Cup. Second was
Hisako Noto (FCCJ), net 75 (gross 100),
third Hiroaki Sakurai (FCCJ), net 96 (gross
103). Sakari Romu (FCCJ) was best gross,
85, followed by Eiji Takagi (SCCJ), 88 and
Kimio Hashida.

winners were drawn from all participants.

第1６回ストゥーラエンソカップ、ＳＣＣＪ対Ｆ
ＣＣＪのゴルフコンペが4月16日（金）千葉県にあ
る太平洋クラブ成田コースにて開催されました。
大変寒い雨天ではありましたが、プレーヤーはフ
レンドリーなゲームを楽しみました。
今回はゲスト1名を含む27名が参加(うちＦＣ
ＣＪからは13名、ＳＣＣＪからは14名)。ＦＣＣＪ
が4回連続してトップとなり、今回ＦＣＣＪチー
ムが大差(打数4.5打の差)でＳＣＣＪに勝ち、平
均スコアはＦＣＣＪチームが79.0打、ＳＣＣＪチー
ムが83.7打でした(チームのベスト80%の平均を計
算）。
これまでの結果、ＦＣＣＪは8勝、ＳＣＣＪは8勝
ですので今回で「オールスクエア」(引分け）と
いう事になります。
個人優勝(ベストネットスコア)は橋田公雄氏(Ｆ
ＣＣＪ)で72(グロス90)。彼がＦＣＣＪゴル
フカップも勝取りました。２位は能登比
佐子氏(ＦＣＣＪ)、３位は櫻井博昭氏(Ｆ
ＣＣＪ)。ベストグロス賞はサカリ・ロム
氏(ＦＣＣＪ)85、２位は高木英二氏(ＳＣ
ＣＪ)88、３位橋田公雄氏(ＦＣＣＪ)90．

GREEN WORLD
I spent my childhood in Kansai area.
Those years from 1963 until 1976 were
full of joy and I have only good memories.
Kyoto and small city of Otsu were good
places to grow up. There was only one
issue which worried me very much!
At that time Japan was boosting its
industrial production and not that much
attention was put on environmental
issues. I remember news fire fighters
dousing rivers on fire because of huge
amount of pollutions. They said that
you could develop your film using only
“water” taken from Yodo kawa! That much chemicals was passed to
rivers! Happily there were already at that time large number of active
people who made a big fuss about environmental protection.

an update on Japan-Finland
relations and recent events.
When I came back to Japan last May, more than 30 years later, I
realized how thankful we should be to those activists. People, who
were looked askance at the enemy of economic growth, by so many
fellow citizens because they just told the world something has to be
done. And certainly not just to those active private person but also
for authorities. In my personal opinion Japan’s authorities could raise
their noise much more about how much they have been able to do for
environment in last 40 years!
Lately aviation and climate has become very much spoken issue.
Even the share of EU air traffic in global carbon dioxide is only 0, 5
per cent (Eurostat) and on a global scale, air transport’s share is only
two per cent aviation carries its responsibility for its impact on the
climate. The industry works hard to decrease the amount of emissions
caused by air traffic. Finnair intends to reduce its emissions by 24 per
cent between 2009 and 2017.
Emissions have been already substantially reduced, so the total
emissions reduction from 1999 to 2017 will be 41 per cent per
passenger seat! The cornerstones of Finnair’s environmental
operations are a modern, low-emission fleet and the shortest routes.
Customers can impact the amount of emissions their flight creates by
choosing an airline with a modern fleet and direct routes.
All airlines operating between Asia and Europe fly over Finland
since the shortest great circle route between the continents passes
over Finnair’s home land. Should you fly from Tokyo to Berlin via
Frankfurt, you will be flying for over an hour in the wrong direction.
Fuel is wasted and unnecessary emission created. Young aircraft are
environmentally friendlier. The average age of our fleet serving Japan
is just 1, 5 years!!

Tuesday, 2 March - FCCJ Club Evening
The first networking event in 2010
was a club evening held on Tuesday 2
March at the Moomin Bakery & Café
in Tokyo Dome City La Qua, Korakuen.
This was the sixth time to have the club
evening at this venue.
36 members and guests, out of
them almost half of them newcomers,
joined and got a taste of Finnish style
delicious food, including fresh Finnish
bread from their own bakery, drinks, including Finnish beer and mingle with
old and new friends in a informal atmosphere with Moomins as interested
spectators.

Petteri Niska joins Outokumpu K.K.
Mr. Petteri Niska who has worked as Market Analyst
at Finland Trade Center, Finpro since 2007, has joined
Outokumpu K.K., where he will be working in Sales for End
Users and Projects.
Before joining Finpro Petteri was a research student in
Economics at the Tohoku University from 2005 to 2007,
therefore he is fluent in Japanese.
He earned his Master of Science degree in Finance from
the University of Oulu in 2005. He was born in Tornio and
during his studies in Oulu he worked at Outokumpu’s mill
in Tornio.

FCCJ Member Survey 2010
メンバー調査２０１０年
As part of the FCCJ’s continuing effort to explore where we’ve been,
where we are, and where we are going in terms of delivering value to FCCJ
members, the FCCJ Board of Directors decided to conduct a member survey
to find out the opinions of our members, including the staff of our corporate
members that might be interested in the activities of FCCJ . A similar survey
was conducted in June 2004.
The Board will use the results from these research efforts to get a better
understanding regarding the needs and desires of FCCJ members.
Survey period: Tuesday, 16 - Friday, 26 March 2010
Responses: 62 - 45.9 % (the announcement was sent to 135 recipients)
Among the respondents we drew four prizes. The winners were:
- Maki Shoji, Finpro (a pair of tickets to the Scandinavian Christmas Party)
- Yasuyuki Oda, Kone Japan, Akira Hagiwara, Vaisala K.K. and Takeshi Hanaoka,
Savcor Japan (free participation at luncheon or club evening)
The Survey had about 50 questions in 8 categories - from respondent
profile, attendance at the chamber events (and reasons why, if attending
only a few), reasons for joining and being a member, knowledge about the
chamber’s media (email bulletin, FCCJ News, Suomi newsletter and the web
site) to opinions about event ideas, etc. Last not but least we asked what the
members expect FCCJ to do in the future, see results below.
