We are too preoccupied with ourselves. We are selfish in our orientation, often self-loving and self-serving. Our denial of it is often a vain attempt to keep walking in the illusion that we are unselfish by nature. In our self-deception, we lose ourselves. As a result, we suffer one of the greatest crises known to humanity: an identity crisis! 私たち人間は、自己陶酔的になる傾向があります。私たちは、自分自身のこと で埋め尽くされています。私たちは自己中心な方向に向かい、よく自己愛的 や利己主義的になります。それを否定するために、生まれつき自己中心的で ないという幻想の中で歩もうとする無駄な試みをします。自分自身を欺くことで、 私たちは自分を失います。その結果、人間性の中で最も大きな問題となるアイ デンティティの危機に陥ります。 This session explores our identity crisis. Identity is defined by relationship. True identity can only be found in relationship with the One True God. This session also issues the call to rise above the status quo of superficial living. God’s plan is for ordinary people to live extraordinary lives. この課では、私たちのアイデンティティの危機について探ります。アイデンティ ティは関係性の中で定義づけられ、真のアイデンティティは唯一のまことの神 様との関係の中でしか見つけられません。またこの課では、表面的な生活の現 状から立ち上がることを呼びかけます。神の計画は、普通の人が普通ではな い生き方をすることだからです。 The paradox of life is this: the more preoccupied we are with ourselves, the more we lose our sense of identity! Yet conversely, the closer we draw to God – and lose ourselves in Him – the more we find ourselves and rediscover our true identity. Why? Because humanity is created in the image of God! We don’t find ourselves by discovering ourselves. Rather, we find ourselves by finding God! 人生において矛盾に思えることは、自分自身が自分のことで一杯であればあ るほど、アイデンティティを失うということです。しかし、逆に言うと、神の近くに 引き寄せられるほど、そして、神の中に自分自身を見失うほどに、私たちは自 分自身を見いだし、また、私たちの本当のアイデンティティを再発見するので す。それはなぜでしょうか？それは、人は神の似姿として創造されたからです。 自分の中を探索しても、自分自身は見つかりません。むしろ、神を見出すこと で、私たち自身を見出します。 John Piper, in his sermon entitled “Christian Identity and Christian Destiny”, said: ジョン・パイパーは「クリスチャンのアイデンティとクリスチャンの宿命」という説教 の中でこう言っています。 Who am I? Who are you? You are a God-chosen one, a God-pitied one, a God-possessed one, a God-sanctified one. We got our identity from God. In fact our identity is our relation to God. We are chosen by God. We are pitied by God. We are possessed by God. We are set apart as holy by God. We are invested as royal priests by God. 私とは誰か？あなたは誰か？あなたは神に選ばれた人で、神のあわれ みを受けたもので、神のものとされた人であり、聖別された人です。私た ちは神からアイデンティティを受け取りました。実際に、私たちのアイデ ンティティは神との関係です。私たちは神によって選ばれました。神のあ われみを受けました。私たちは神のものとされました。神によって聖なる ものとして区別されました。私たちは王の祭司として任命されています。 In other words He has given us our identity in order that His identity might be proclaimed through us. God made us who we are so we could make known who He is. Our identity is for the sake of making known His identity. No, it is only found in God! We are chosen by God and bear His image. Our lives must be restored to reflect Him daily. The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20, 完全に自分中心になった人々は、究極的な人生の意味を間違って人情や親 切さの中に見出します。そうではなく、神の中にだけ見出すことができます。私 たちは神によってえらばれ、神のイメージを生み出します。私たちは日々神を 反映するものとして回復されなければならないのです。使徒パウロはガラテヤ の信徒への手紙２：２０でこう書いています。 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 私はキリストとともに十字架につけられました。もはや私が生き ているのではなく、キリストが私のうちに生きておられるのです。 いま私が肉にあって生きているのは、私を愛し私のためにご自身 をお捨てになった神の御子を信じる信仰によっているのです。 Paul was talking about his union with Christ. It is in that union, in that intimate relationship with the Almighty God, that we re-discover ourselves and find our true identity.
