i - N E W S H a lloween Party On October 19, 2013, the i-News staff, along with the help of a few Imabari Assistant Language Teachers (ALT), hosted their annual Halloween Party at Onishi Community Hall. The hall was beautifully decorated with jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, skeletons, and other Halloween décor. About 70 children and their parents attended the party, all dressed in very creative costumes. From witches and princesses, to skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, and even a Michael Jackson costume, everyone looked like they were ready to have some Halloween fun! Each ALT, along with an i-News staff, was assigned to a small group of about 10 children. This helped the staff, as well as the children and parents connect on a personal level together. The group worked together during crafts and games. For a Halloween craft, children were given an assortment of supplies to transform a paper cup into a scary monster. After crafts, the children played Karuta and Halloween BINGO in their groups with some Halloween vocabulary. Everyone sang a song called “Go Away”, which incorporated the vocabulary words in the song. Four of the volunteer ALTs performed a Halloween skit on stage. The short English skit covered the story behind Halloween and how we celebrate it. This led to the long-awaited trick-or-treating that the children were looking forward to. There were nine different doors that the children could go trick-or-treating at. The children were very excited to knock on the different doors and receive candy from the different ALTs. After the children settled down and their bags were full with candy, the groups gathered one last time for the presentation of their certiÞcates. Each child received a personalized certiÞcate for participating in this year's Halloween party, signed by their ALT who worked with them for the day. Overall, the Halloween party was a great success! This opportunity to socialize and have exposure to English, while incorporating the Halloween theme was very enriching for the children. It was a good experience to have some cultural exchange along with some Halloween fun! Thank you to the ALTs who volunteered their time. Thank you to all the families who participated this year. Without your turn out, this party would not have been possible. Finally, a big thank-you to the iNews staff for all their hard work, planning, and organization of this event. We look forward to next year's Halloween party. i-NEWSハロウィーンパーティ ２０１３年１０月１９日、i-News のスタッフと今治の数名のＡＬＴ の協力により、毎年恒例のハロ ウィーンパーティを大西公民館で開 催しました。ジャコランタンやお ばけ、ガイコツなどのハロウィーン の飾りで会場はきれいに飾られま した。約７０人の子供や保護者が 参加し、皆さんそれぞれに工夫を こらした仮装をしていました。魔 女やプリンセス、ガイコツやジャ コランタン、マイケルジャクソンの 格好をした人までいて、ハロウィー ンをとても楽しみにしていること がうかがえました。 １ ０ 人 ぐら いず つ の 子 供 が 小 グ ループに分かれ、それぞれのグルー プにＡＬＴとi-Newsのスタッフが割 り当てられました。こうすること で、子供たち同士や保護者が、ス タッフと一緒に個人のレベルに応 じて活動することができました。 グループごとにクラフト製作やゲー ムなどの活動をしました。クラフ ト製作では、予め配られた目や口 などの紙細工を貼り付けながら、 紙コップを怖いモンスターに変身 させました。クラフト製作の後 は、グループ内でカルタ遊びをした り、ハロウィーンに関する言葉を 使いながら、ビンゴをしたりしま した。みんなで”Go Away”という歌 も歌いました。その中にはハロ ウィーンに関係のある言葉が入って いました。 ＡＬＴが４人名乗り出てステージ でハロウィーンに関する劇をしま した。その短い劇の中に、ハロ ウィーンに関する物語があり、ど うやって祝うのかも説明されてい ました。ここからが、子供たちが 心 待 ち に して い た ト リ ッ ク ・ オ ア・トリートの始まりです。子供 たちは９つのドアを興奮気味にた たき、それぞれのＡＬＴからキャ ンディを受け取りました。 トリック・オア・トリートを終え By Jessica Ogasawara ジェシカ オガサワラ て、バッグがキャンディでいっぱい になった後、もとのグループに戻っ て、子供たちは修了証を受け取り ました。今年のハロウィーンパー ティに参加したことが証明された 修了証を一人一人受け取りまし た。その修了証には、一緒に活動 したＡＬＴがサインをしました。 ハロウィーンパーティは大成功に 終 わ り ま し た 。 ハ ロ ウィ ーン を テーマに、いろいろな子供と交流 したり、英語に触れたりしたこと は、子供たちにとって意義深いこ とだったと思います。ハロウィーン のお楽しみに沿って文化交流をし たことはとてもいい経験でした。 ボランティアに協力してくれたＡＬ Ｔの皆さん、ありがとう。今年こ のイベントに参加してくださった家 族のみなさん、ありがとうござい ました。皆さんがいたからこそ、 今年もこのパーティーができたの です。最後に、i-Newsのスタッフの 皆さん、計画から運営までの大変 なご苦労に心から感謝したいと思 います。来年のハロウィーンパー ティを楽しみにしています。 訳: 羽藤 りえ (Rie Hato) I-NEWS 95 December 2013/January 2014 The New Year Issue 10
