中東の「長い 19 世紀」
流動化する地域秩序、政治化する「宗派」
中東地域の紛争は、
「宗派対立」であるとの説明がしばしば見られる。しかし、中東地域の紛争は、19 世紀におけ
るオスマン帝国の衰退と解体がもたらした、政治と社会の大きく長い変化に根ざしたものであり、宗派は紛争の原因
というより、政治と社会の変化の中で政治的争点として浮上してきたものである。このシンポジウムでは、オスマン
帝国の解体がもたらした混乱から未だに抜け切れていない中東の近現代史の文脈の中で、宗派がどのように政治的争
点となり、その背景にどのような政治と社会の構造変動があるのかを議論する。（公開シンポジウム企画委員会）
