～意思あるところに道は開ける！～
-Entrance Ceremony Special Issue-
毎日が飛ぶように過ぎていき、GW も明け、気がつけば 5 月も中ほどにさしかかってきま
した。9 年生の様子を見ていると、中学 3 年生であることを忘れてしまいそうなほど、勉学
に励んでいる姿が印象的です。高等学校の内容を学び始めて、中学校の時とは違った勉強の
習慣に、慣れてきたように思えます。しかし、それよりも、生活面、精神面での成長は我々
教員の目を見張るほどです。
これまでは、些細なことでも気にしすぎるほど気にしていた雰囲気が、一転、すべてのも
のを受け入れているかのような、包容力に満ちたクラスの姿がここに見えてきました。他者
を認められるようになってからは、より深く自分自身と向き合うことができるようになって
いくことと思います。
さて、高等学校の学習内容に進むにつれ、家庭学習の重要度が増してきました。日々の家
庭での学習の重要性を考え、今後は教科書類の持ち帰りを徹底することにしました。時間数
が増え、登下校での持ち物が大変な面もありますが、お子様のよりよい学習習慣の確立のた
め、ご家庭のご協力をお願いいたします。

The days do seem
to fly and with the holidays over, it is now the middle of May.
As I watch the 9th graders studying intensely everyday, I am impressed and
often tend to forget that they are still in their last year of junior high school. I
am also happy to see that they have adjusted to the different study habits that
is required to cover high school level materials. Even more than that though,
the students are surprising even us staff with their improved maturity both in
mind and in their lifestyle.
In complete contrast to the occasional tendency to be concerned with fastidious
details, the class have developed this compassion that allows them to accept
so much more. I think that as they become more accommodating of others,
they will also gain the ability to face themselves more closely.
As we move into high school level content, there is increasing need for
disciplined home study. With this in mind, we have recently asked the
students to take their textbooks home and not leave them here at the school.
Though this will force the students to have to carry many books to and from
school, we feel that adequate preparation at home is vital to their continued
academic success. We would like to ask for your understanding on this
matter.
せまる！Mid term examination
6 月 1 日（金）から 5 日（木）にかけて前期中間考査が行われます。中学校の時とは違って、専門的に学ん
できた学習内容に対して、昨年にも増して計画的な学習が求められます。試験の順番に左右されず、しっか
りと復習するようにしてください。
試験範囲は、5 月 18 日（金）に配布される予定です。ご家庭でも、範囲の確認と計画的な学習にご協力お
願いいたします。
The Midterm examination for the first semester will be held through June 1 st (Friday) to 5th (Thursday).
Careful planning and advance preparation have become more essential as the students move on to high
school level material. Please ensure that the students are clearly aware of what will be covered in each exam
and also stress that they do start studying early. The summery of test areas will be distributed on May 18 th
(Friday).

Reading at home
家庭での読書について
One of the best ways to expand our students’ knowledge, imaginations and English abilities
is also one of the simplest and most enjoyable to take part in; namely independent reading at
home.
家庭で個人的に行う読書は、生徒達の知識を広げ、想像力や英語力を伸ばす方法の１つであ
り、また生徒達にとって最も単純に楽しめる行為でもあります。
Reading in English will help students to develop their English abilities in a number of ways,
including improved vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and sentence structure; and they will be
able to apply their English knowledge in new and exciting ways.
英語で行う読書は、語彙力、スペリング力、文法感覚、文章構造等、様々な形で生徒達の英
語力を高め、その結果として彼らは英語で学んだ知識を新しく驚くべき方法で応用する事が
できるようになります。
Students are free to choose their own books, whether fiction or non-fiction. We would
encourage students to choose books which, whilst not being too difficult, will enable them to
challenge themselves and expand their English abilities.
読む本については、フィクション、ノンフィクションを問わず自由に選んでいただいて構い
ません。特に難解である必要もありませんが、適度に個々の能力が試されるものが理想的で
す。
In addition to daily independent reading time, we have recently been encouraging students
to use the school library; and we have ordered hundreds of new books, based on both
International Baccalaureate book lists and teachers’ personal recommendations. Students
are, of course, welcome to buy their own books; as there are countless books available in
English from bookstores such as Kinokuniya, Junkudo and Maruzen; or online from websites
such as amazon.co.jp.
生徒達には、毎朝学校で行っているインディペンデント・リーディングの時間外にも積極的
に図書室を活用し、英語の本を読むように指導をしています。また、学校側でも国際バカロ
レアの規準と各教科担当の推薦を基に、近日中に新しい本を大量に購入する予定です。勿論、
これら以外に生徒達が好む本を個人で購入していただくことも可能です。洋書は紀伊国屋、
ジュンク堂、丸善、またはオンライン（amazon 等）等から購入できます。
We would like to ask for your support in encouraging your child to read as much as possible
in English. Students should aim to read from thirty to forty pages a week. If you have any
questions or concerns about your child’s reading, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
是非ご家庭でもお子様が英語で読書をする癖が付くよう、可能な限りご協力いただきたいと
思います。目安としては毎週３０から４０ページ程の量を規準に考えていただければと思っ
ています。
