“The 18th CHUO International Education Forum
will be held on August 28th, 2016.
CHUO has been working hard in the area of
International Exchange for 17 years. This Forum is a
unique event which is only held at Chuo High School.
Our committee started to prepare for this big event
in March. We respected and followed the traditions of
former Forums, and, we worked very hard to make it
the best Forum ever. The theme of this year is “Creating
a Sustainable Society.” We decided to divide students
into four groups: Eco-Tourism, World Heritage and
Protection of Cultural Properties, Disaster Prevention,
and Renewable Energy.
Nowadays, on the earth we live on, we have not
only serious environmental issues and natural disasters,
but also heartbreaking tragedies which threaten world
peace. It seems that these problems will never be
resolved if we don’t take earnest action. It is time to
consider what we can do for a better future, while
preserving what our ancestors created.
Students from sister schools and Chuo had a
heated discussion based on cultural diversity and
various values. We hope the young people who
represent the next generation will go beyond borders
and religious differences, and come to understand each
other as a result of this international forum. We should
aim for finding solutions to the problems in our own
ways.
I hope this forum will get you to start thinking
about sustainable societies.
In conclusion, it is a great honor to welcome
everyone from our sister schools overseas. I am
delighted that we are able to hold this wonderful forum.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has helped to put
on the 18th International Education Forum.
第 18 回目を迎える「CHUO 国際教育フォーラム」
が 2016 年 8 月 28 日に開催されようとしています。
これまで 17 年間続いてきたこの式典は、長年、国際
交流に力を入れてきた盛岡中央高校にしか出来ないも
のです。先輩方が築いてきたその伝統を引き継ぎ、ま
たこれまでのフォーラムを越えるようなものを作り上げ
ようと、私たちは３月から本格的にフォーラムに向けた
活動を始め、これまで活動してきました。
今年は、昨年の「Creating a Sustainable Society ～
持続可能な世界をつくろう～」というテーマを引き継
ぎ、フォーラムを行います。事前に校内での選考会に
より選ばれた、
「エコツーリズム」
「世界遺産・文化財
保護」
「防災」
「新エネルギー」という 4 つの研究テー
マから持続可能な社会について考えます。
現在、私たちの住む地球では、これまで問題とされ
てきたさまざまな環境問題や自然災害だけでなく、世
界平和を脅かすような悲しい事件が数多く発生してい
ます。それらは私たちが本気で考え行動を起こさなけ
れば、決して解決する問題ではありません。先人たち
が築き上げた歴史を守りながら、私たちが生きていく
未来をより良いものとするために私たちに何ができる
のか、考えるべき時なのです。
世界各国から集まった生徒達と私たち中央生は、そ
れぞれの文化や様々な価値観に基づき、たくさんの意
見交換を行いました。これからの国際社会を担う私た
ちの世代がこの国際フォーラムを通し、国を越え、宗
教を越え、本当の意味でお互いを理解し合える関係を
築きたいと思っています。そして、
研究テーマに対して、
高校生なりの「答え」を見いだせるようなフォーラム
を展開していきたいと思います。
また、このフォーラムが、皆さんにも持続可能な社
会について考えていただくきっかけになることを願っ
ています。
最後になりますが、今年も世界各国の姉妹校からた
くさんの教員や生徒の方々をお迎えし、この「第 18 回
CHUO 国際教育フォーラム」を盛大に開催できること
をとても嬉しく思うとともに、これまでこのフォーラム
に携わってくださったすべての方々に心から感謝申し
上げます。

It has been over 5 years since the earthquake and
tsunami of March 11, 2011, and today we are continuing
to rebuild the area to create “Our Home Iwate”, which
we hope will be an even better place. We appreciate your
sincere concern about the situation and all of the support
which was provided by people around the world.
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to
everyone present today – the teachers and students from
16 countries and regions, guests from Iwate and other
prefectures, and members of the Chuo High School
Alumni Association and PTA. I greatly appreciate your
coming to the 18th Chuo International Education Forum.
I would also like to thank the Iwate Prefecture Board
of Education, the Morioka City Board of Education,
the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and the Embassies of
the countries where our sister schools are located, for
sponsoring this event.
This Forum has been held every year since 1999, as
part of our school’s International Education Program. It
is organized and run mainly by a committee of Morioka
Chuo students.
The theme of this year’s Forum is “Creating a
Sustainable Society”. We divided the students into
4 groups to discuss the following topics: Disaster
Prevention, Eco-Tourism, World Heritage and Protection
of Cultural Properties, and Renewable Energy.
I hope that the students from our sister schools who
are here today will develop a circle of friendship by
talking with, learning from, and coming to understand one
another; and that in the future, they will strive to be global
citizens who can make the world a better place. We asked
the students to look at the situation in their home countries
concerning these big and challenging topics and to look
for solutions. We want them to cooperate with each
other across borders, and we believe that they will take
action together. We hope that the students will see these
problems not as those of other people, but as their own.
Let all of us who are gathered here from around the
world talk together about our hopes and dreams, learn
together, gain the ability to take action, and finally make
the world a better place.
I hope that the participants at this year’s Forum will
deepen their understanding of, and their friendships
with, one another, as a result of listening to the students’
presentations, keynote speech and participating in
roundtable discussions with each other.
I hope that all of the participants will greatly enjoy the
Forum.
あの東日本大震災から 5 年余りが過ぎました。復興
への道はまだまだですが、世界各国から受けた支援
に感謝を込め、一日も早く希望と輝きを取り戻すこと
ができるような「ふるさと岩手・三陸」の創造の実
現を目指して、力強く歩んでいるところです。今後
ともご支援のほどよろしくお願いいたします。
さて、本日はお招きいたしました世界 16 の国や地
域の先生方や生徒の皆様、そして県内外のご来賓の
皆様方、ようこそ盛岡中央高等学校の第 18 回 CHUO
国際教育フオーラムにお出でくださいまして誠にあ
りがとうございます。心から歓迎申し上げます。
また、今回のフオーラム開催にあたりましては、日
本外務省や海外から参加してくださる国、地域の大
使館をはじめ岩手県並びに盛岡市教育委員会などか
らのご後援を得て行うことができ、大変うれしく思っ
ております。ご承知の通りこのフオーラムは、盛岡中
央高校が推進してまいりましたグローバル人材育成
教育事業の一環として、1999 年から毎年開催してい
るものでございます。
今年のテーマは、

ました。これは持続可能な将来が実現できるような
地球規模の諸問題として「防災」

「新エネルギー」の４分野につ
いて、各国姉妹校の自国が直面している現状と課題
を捉え、問題解決にあたっては、国境を越えての協力・
協調によって、それらの課題の解決につながる新た
な価値観や行動を生み出していこうと設定したもの
です。骨太で難解なテーマではありますが、自分た
ちを取り巻く様々な課題に対して、
それを「ひとごと」
として見過ごすのではなく「わがこと」として捉え、
その解決に向かってチャレンジし取り組んでいくこ
とを期待しています。
その意味からも、各国から参加いただきました皆
様と共に、このフオーラムを通して共に夢や志を語
り、主体的・協働的に学び、行動するための能力や
態度を育むことによって、世界に夢の花を咲かせて
欲しいと思います。
それでは、各国のプレゼンテーションや基調講演・
教育交流会、日本文化体験等を通して、友情の輪が
広がっていくことを願い歓迎の挨拶といたします。

Cours Sainte Marie de Hann was founded in 1950 and is located near the downtown of Dakar. It is
a private school which contains all educational levels - from kindergarten to high school. It is a very big
school, with a total of 4,500 students who study in 2 programs - a French program ( 1,800 students ) and
a Senegal Program ( 2,700 students ). A 4 - year college named IMES was established 4 years ago, and at
present there are 100 students in this college. Cours Sainte Marie de Hann became a sister school of MCHS
in December, 2011. MCHS delegates visited Cours Sainte Marie de Hann in December, 2013 for the first time.

Trống Cơm- a kind of traditional Vietnamese
bongo-shape drum
A trống cơm, literally "rice drum", is a kind of
traditional bongo-shaped Vietnamese drum. It is used
in the hát bội orchestra. Hát chèo also uses the drum
in its repertoire.
Trống cơm is a long cylindrical drum with
percussion surfaces at both ends. When stationary, it is

placed transverse in front of the performer who would
strike at the two ends with his hands. Drumsticks are
also used. Trống cơm can be played by an ambulant
performer when it is worn with a sash and slung over
the shoulders, leaving the drum transverse in front of
the abdomen.

（ベトナムの伝統的な太鼓）
トロン・コムは本来の意味はコメの太鼓。ベ
トナムの伝統的なボンゴドラムです。楽器は hát
boi オーケストラで使用されます。Hát chèo の
中でもこの楽器を一部としています。トロン・コ
ムは長いシリンダー型の太鼓でたたく部分は両面
にあります。固定して演奏する場合は、演奏者の
前に横置きにし、両方の手でたたいて演奏します。
帯を肩に巻き、お腹の周りに置きながら、動いて
演奏することもあります。ドラムの名の由来の米
は、楽器部分に炊いたお米を塗って裏返していた
からです。二つの面は５節からなっています。音
楽演奏と共に短い踊りを披露します。
The drum earns its name "rice" as a layer of

boy’s flute>-the first Chinese traditional style
piano piece created in 1934.
The song named Buffalo boy’s flute was created
by Luting He in 1934. The structure of the melody
is simple, since it’s a typical three-stage form. Also,
this is the first piano piece with overt and mature
Chinese characteristics, which depicts a Chinese
idyllic picture completed different to the Western
ones. So it’s an outstanding example of creativity in
Chinese modern-time piano music composition.

- A traditional dance by Javanese people in Central
Java.
Rama, the prince of Ayodhya and his wife Sita are
the ideal royal couple. Rama is brave, wise and dutiful,
and Sita is beautiful, generous and saintly.
Before the aged king could hand over his crown to
his eldest son Rama, Dasaratha is destined to die. And
instead of being crowned king of Ayodhya, Rama is sent
into exile in the forest for fourteen year by an intrigue in
the palace and a quirk of fate.
Rama goes to the forest, accompanied by wife

Sita and they live as recluses among the hermits that
lead a life of meditative retreat in the deep woods.
While Rama and his wife are living a simple yet
happy life in the forest, tragedy strikes! Henceforth,
the plot revolves around the abduction of Sita by the
demon king Ravana, the ten-headed ruler of Lanka, and
Rama’s pursuit to rescue her. Sita is held captive in the
island as Ravana tries to persuade her to marry him.
Rama assembles an army. They attack Ravana’s
army, and after a fierce battle, succeed in killing the
demon king and freeing Sita, reuniting her with Rama.
After fourteen years, Rama and Sita return to
Ayodhya and are warmly welcomed back by the citizens
of the kingdom, where they rule for many years.

The Sansa Dance, having been passed down over
hundreds of years from the legend written on a boulder at
Morioka’s Mitsuishi Shrine, is symbolic dance of Morioka.
According to the legend, long long ago, there was a
demon who did all manner of bad things, and the villagers
prayed at Mitsuishi Shrine that the demon would be driven
away. The god who caught him made the demon put his

return to the area, which he did before fleeing away. The
reason why the dance got its name is that the villagers
were overjoyed that, in its celebration, they danced around
Mitsuishi Shrine, which made the sound “sansa, sansa…”
Each rural district around Morioka has its own
individual style of dance and music, generally called
“Inaka Sansa” (Countryside Sansa). The city of Morioka
has developed its own “Morioka Sansa” dance based
on these dances. At the beginning of August, more than
30,000 dancers, 2,000 pipers, and 14,000 Japanese “taiko”
drummers fill the streets of Morioka with a joyful rhythm.
This passion makes “the Sansa Dance Festival” one of
Northeast Japan’s representative summer events.
さんさ踊りは、三ツ石神社の巨石伝説に由来し、
数百年受け継がれてきた盛岡のシンボルともいえ
る踊りです。
伝説によると、むかし悪事の限りを働く鬼がい
て、里人たちは三ツ石神社に退治を祈りました。
鬼を捕まえた神は、二度とこの里に来ない（不来
方の由来）ことを誓わせ、鬼はその証として巨石
に手形（岩手の由来）を残して逃げました。里人
たちは大いに喜び、祝い、三ツ石のまわりを「サ
ンサ、サンサ」と踊ったのが始まりといわれてい
ます。
今では、盛岡を中心とした各地域ごとに、独自
の踊りや演奏があり、
それらは一般に「田舎さんさ」
と呼ばれます。また、それらを統一した「盛岡さ
んさ」があります。８月初旬の４日間、３万人を
超える踊り子、2,000 本の笛、1 万 4,000 個の太鼓
によって、盛岡の目抜き通りは「さんさ」のリズ
ムで埋め尽くされます。その熱気は東北地方の夏
の風物詩となっています。
