I was the gladdest seminar in Canada, it contacted with us kindly. Host
family was friendly and kindly for the first time. I felt relived very much. Host
mother always minted us. When I was troubled, they always helped me.
They are very kind. When I parted from them I was very sad. I was cry. Host
mother cry too. Host mother said “I want to be still it here.” I was impressed very
much.
I felt glad, happy, sad, and seminar in Canada. I think good to went to Canada. I
want to meet host family and assistants again.

I enjoyed in Canada with host family, so I want to go to Canada someday.
But, I have to study for it. So I will study for go to Canada.
Canada’s food was delicious. I like to pizza in school of Canadian food. But, I
was disappointing that I couldn’t eat the fish and chips. My friend was eating it. I
envious of it. If you go to Canada next year, you must try fish and chips.
I had friends over there. Canadian friends are very kind of me. They are sending
an E-mail to me sometimes. Of course, an e-mail is English a letter all.
I can’t understand an occasion, but I try to understand of it. I want to study
English for speak with they.

Canada dollars to me. I have never seen such a beautiful lake and mountain.
Japanese women speaks “Vancouver is very good order.” I don’t think. adapt to
life in a Canada for a week. Canada is very good. I lived at peace with host
family. Canada is precious memories.

“My precious memories in Canada”
I had a good time in Canada. I went to there for two weeks, but I felt it
very short period. I stayed in Allain family’s house. They warmly welcomed and
pleased me. I learned many Canadian culture in this home. For example, they
cherish greetings. They said,”Good morning, “How are you today?” “Thank
you,” “You’re welcome,” and “Good night.” I could spend with good feeling by
the grace of many greetings. I was glad to learn Canadian culture. I had been
looking forward to seeing Canadian nature. So when I really see it, I was very
impressed. My most favorite sightseeing spot in Canada is Lake Louise. Though
it was cloudy, the lake was so beautiful. The real lake was more beautiful than
photograph of it. I wondered the color of lake was different from lakes which I
have seen in Japan. I’ll never forget beauty of Lake Louise!
I think that it was good for me to take part in this seminar. My thanks goes to
host family, teachers and many friends without their help, I couldn’t enjoy this
seminar.

I went to Canada for the first time on this seminar. And I had great
memories in there. I think that I was changed by this trip. For example, I
understand what should I do now for my future, and what is important in my life.
I want to speak English than before. So I will study English in college. Then I
will go to Canada again. I want to pass the things which I can’t pass to my
friends and my family in this seminar.
The Canadian sky is really beautiful and very wide. I felt that Japanese sky is
very small. All of Canadian people are so kind. For example, passer by support
the door for us with a smile. I was very happy!!
I was very glad to go to Canada. And I appreciate all people who met me.

“The most important memory in Canada”
I went to Canada for the first time in this summer. At first I was so
nervous because I didn’t know if I can communicate with people, especially my
host family. As soon as I met my host family, a warmhearted feeling made me
happy. To stay with them for two weeks gave me a lot of great experiences. We
often talked about each country. Their English was easy for us to understand.
Moreover, they tried to listen carefully to our English. I had confidence with my
English and I am not afraid of communicating with foreigners anymore. Two
weeks past so quickly. I am sure this experience is the most important thing for
me. I want to go to Canada next year again. If I can’t, I will keep in touch with
my host family. Thank you for the Felice family.

“I WENT TO CANADA!!”
I went to Canada last summer and we study English and Canadian
culture. I felt very happy because, Canada is pleasantly country. There is bigger
than others country. I learned English from there. I couldn’t use English well at
first. Canadian spoke so fast that I couldn’t follow Canadian. But I am able to
follow what people say now. I made friends in Canada. We played volleyball and
talking. It was very fun. Canadian was very kind. Canadian school is free at all. I
went McDonald’s at a noon recess and I ordered for a Fillet-O-Fish. I often
played a lot of tricks. I was scolded by Canadian teacher and I was danced by her.
But Canada was interesting. I had an unforgettable a pleasant experience.

“Supreme Canada Seminar”
The really good point of this seminar is <1> Since I stay with a host family
for a long period, I’ll have many opportunities to speak in English and I can also
build a close relationship with the host family. <2> I could make cutie friends in
Canada. <3> I had an invaluable experience.
I wish we could go back that. It was so good being Canada. I got much out of a
seminar. I’m keen to go to Canada and meet them again soon. I’ll be back.

I don’t like English very much. Then, I decided to join Canada seminar.
I thought I could improve my English ability if I went to the place where English
is necessary. Canada was very good place. I t was wide and full of nature.
Moreover, people there were very kind. The students and teachers of the school
in Canada, as well as the host family, dealt with us very kindly.
Canada seminar is a good memory for me. Someday, I will go to Canada
and see my host family again. I love Canada very much.

“I enjoyed staying in Canada!”
I went to Canada for about one month ago. The country was a country
that was wider and more beautiful than Japan.
When I met the host family for the first time, I could not speak very well by a
strain. But I came to understand what the other party wanted to say in about one
week. And the host family had pool. Pool is a meaning of billiards. So I was
playing pool every day. And the host family was very pleased with Japanese food
of my souvenir and the toy of Japan.
I made friends with local student. I’m E-mailing still with them.
I really enjoyed a home stay and a Canada seminar. I want also to go.

“Memory of Canada”
This seminar I went to Canada made a lot of experience. But most
notably is the home stay. Until now I have there ever been abroad, was a new
experience home stay. The host family was nice to you very much and received it
like a totally true family. The host family will have two girls the same age now
that leads out to play with words.
At first I was willing to convey with body language, getting to speak
slowly. I remember a lot of fun when though the word.
Finally, dietary habits and the language used to it, was discovered to be
living in different cultures and different people look at all of course. But I could
not speak English well in poor, little progress would have been talking with local
friends in Canada.

“Impression of Canada”
To go to Canada made me worried because my English was poor. I
thought my English will not understand by the home staying family. However, I
was so happy and glad that my home staying family was so kind and nice to us. It
was very lucky and we enjoyed very much. But we faired one thing. Cooking
Japanese noodle was too much. We had to throw away made bad impression to
the family. After returning to the room, we regretted that volume of noodles were
too much. This was to us a memorable remembrance.
If I have a chance to visit Canada once again, I surely would like to meet with the
wonderful home staying family.

“My home stay in Canada”
This was my first to Canada. Canada is a very large country and it is
famous for a lot of beautiful mountains and lakes.
I visited Lake Louise on my school excursion. It was emerald green. I stayed
with the Cousleys. My host parents were John and Charlotte. They are a little old
and very kind and gentle.
They had a pool table in the basement and John taught me how to shoot pool. It
was a very difficult game but I had a good time with them.
I couldn’t speak English so well but they tried to understand me and they told me
many things about the life in Canada. I will never forget their hospitality.

I went to Canada in this summer. It was my first trip to foreign country.
My buddy is H・K. My host family is Andrew. His father took us to many
wonderful places. Andrew’s grand father told us about Canada. In holiday they
took us few lakes. There were very beautiful places. We had BBQ and fishing
there. We jumped on a trampoline with Andrew and other host family.
I made many good friends at school. I made many good memories with them. I
want to be speaking English well and I want to go to Canada again.

First, my purpose to the Canada seminar became actively than usual.
Because I always a shy person when I have to say something at somewhere. For
example, at school, Shops or when take a photo with my friends!!! I think this
problem will have a bad influence to my work that I want to be future.
So I decided to go to Canada seminar to improvement myself. When I
arrived at assemble place, nice graders are only 5 people!!! I was getting shy at
that time. So I couldn’t talk to senior at airport and at plane. So I always stayed
with Ayaka. But when I talked about that to my host mother, she said,” Why
don’t you speak with senior?” After I heard it, I tried to speak more and more!!!
And I can be friend with some seniors. Sometime, I got home with another host
family. So I had a lot of chances to talk with Canadian people. And I noticed that
I’m not get shy!!
I recommend going to Canada ABSOLUTELY. Because, we can experience a lot
of beautiful day at there with friend, Canadian people and host family!!
I feel Canada seminar is not just seminar. It was more meaning to us. I
want to go to Canada again!!!

“In Canada”
I was surprised by climate in Canada. There temperature is very cold.
Example there morning have only 13 degrees. Also there afternoon have only 24
degrees. It is very cold and there is very bright. Canada have time lay in some
country about 2 hour.
I found a lot of good things of Japan and Canada in this seminar. They
can’t find things in Japan. They are notice the first time if you go abroad.
Example Japanese toilet and bathroom is comfortable. But Canada’s toilet and
bathroom is not comfortable. Because there are toilet and bathroom in same
room. Also Canada haven’t a lot of vending machine But Japan have a lot of
vending machine. Because Japan is very safety. Canada have many kinds of very
bad taste candy, but mead dish is very delicious Canada have very wide road and
grass land and very large shopping mall. Canadian is very kind. I love they and
there country. This seminar let me love Canada and Canadian very much.

From July seventeenth to thirtieth. For two weeks we studied at Airdrie
in Canada. We spent with each Host family during first ten days. In our daily life
we attended school in the morning after lunch we visited historical site (Heritage
Park) in afternoon tour. Next, I talk about my host family. They are four family
members, father, mother and two sisters. They are very kind to me.
After school they took me to the mall for shopping and took me to the
swimming pool too. On weekends, we went to theme park.
There are very thrilling ride in it, which I enjoyed a lot. This experience
made me improve English. First I couldn’t catch what they say but on end on I
could get they are words.

I’m not good at English. However, I wanted to go to Canada. Actually, if
I could go abroad, it was good anywhere. But now I notice that this idea is
mistake. Because for example when I saw Canada’s view, I was very impressed.
Canada was full of nature. These sky was wide and near. And the mind of
Canadian people is wide too. At first I met my host family, I was very nervous. I
thought, “If I can’t speak English well?” But there was no worry; my host family
was very kind and cheerful. They talked with us every time. At first, I couldn’t
understand English. But I came to be able to understand English a little the third
day.
I spent very happy time. I made friends in Canada’s school. I thought,”I’m
not good at English, but no problem. Because the important one is mind, and
courage.”
Canadian is cheerful, about, funny, beautiful and kind. I think Canada is
very interesting country. I’ll be back to Canada!

I felt the difference between Canada and Japan in seminar abroad. Go to
Canada first surprise was the weather and daylight hours. Days longer that in
Japan. Canada the sun was about 21:30. So people can come to visit about 23
hours, or go out.
A summer morning and evening but the climate is chilly. Daytime
temperatures are in much better just fall in Japan. In Canada was not surprising
than most of the cicadas. The next surprise was the difference in personality and
physique Canadians were very tolerant.
I was surprised not many people who accept a home stay in the Airdrie
area. In Japan, since not too many, I was impressed with the Canadian people
even people who accept the household.
Canadians are just really tall and all, but long legs. I was surprised. Go
abroad; I felt a big difference in physique between Japanese and foreigners. I felt
the end was the difference in the education building. There was a house where
the garage is also a wide garden. Supermarkets also sell electronic products in
Canada was largely the food clothes. There were very useful where a shop close
to home Exam cram no difference in education such as Japan and is likely to go.
So do sports after school or are studying a new language. Canada has said that
people who speak three languages pretty well. I really enjoyed it even
destinations such as Vancouver and Banff Maware. It was nice to see a big lakes
and natural such as Lake Louise is not in Japan. You become friends with juniors;
the tarne and friendly with the locals think it was a home stay student, not from
tourism. You will also learn the seminar in Japan where bad is good to be able to
rediscover such a good place for Japanese fin care. It was nice to participate in
the seminar.

At first I felt kindness and friendly. For example, I was spoken by worker
of airport. I was surprised very much. But he said “Arigato.” So I calmed. When
I met my Host Family, I tensed. But they thought about many things for us. So I
can teach about Japanese friends and our school and my family too.
I have never forgotten thing. It jumped trampoline with Andrew. It was
very interesting. So I want to jump one more. And I want to try skill. And I have
a memory. It is birthday party for Tom. It was grand party. So I enjoyed it very
much. When I went back home, I didn’t want to go home. As I want to stay
Canada with Tom. I studied English and kindness in Canada. So I’ll challenge a
lot of thing in English.

I really enjoyed trip to Canada. I learned about English conversation in
Canada. It’s easy for Canadian and more people to speak English, but it isn’t easy
for me. For example, if I say “sorry”, many people answer “No problem.”
Especially, I enjoyed riding a horse. It was my first experience in my life.
I enjoyed that, but my hip joint became to aches… There were a lot of horses in
the farm where I went. I love a white horse of all others. It was very cute I
became to love Canada. Lake and night illumination was beautiful and many of
Canadian was very kind. So I want to go again Canada!!

I have good time for two weeks. My host family’s house is very big. I
jump on a trampoline. Trampoline is big! I love meal of Canada! Among I love
meat! I ate meat with supper every day. And very very delicious! I love view in
Canada. I felt big country in Canada! And beautiful! I felt cool to Canada’s class
teacher. She was like MacArthur, Douglas! I happily became an O teacher in
Canada! Ms. Uchiyama was able to be gotten to know through a Canadian
seminar and it was good! I will go to the Canada next year!

I learned a lot of things. Canadian girls are very kind and beautiful.
Also host family ‘Michelle’ is very kind mother and very funny. I go to a
beautiful lake and waterfall. The views are very good but I was very tired
because they are very far away. I saw a lot of animals and some flowers, for
example, very cute bear and sheep and little chipmunk. I was very impressed.
Waterfall is very lovely and beautiful.
I think Canada is very beautiful country. I want to go Canada again. I
will study English hard when I went to Canada. This Canada seminar will be
good for me.

I went to my first trip abroad. I had hope and anxiety. I'm tired of fright
is a lot of time. But when I arrived in Calgary, I woke up. Because the air was
very clear and atmosphere also was different in Japan.
I rode the bus after I left the airport. The view I have never seen in Japan
was beautiful. All houses were very stylish. Host family was a friendly man.
The conversation was fast and I didn't know. But “one more” I ask, they
talked slowly so I could talk. I can talk and are happy. Host family's house was
big log house. Around the house was all the host family's. It was very wide.
The best thing was that host family took me to STORM'S live. I didn't know the
lyrics, but It was cool. I proved to talk about music. I was glad that I could
introduce about J-POP. I want to see STORM band again.

“What I obtain in Canada”
The reason why I wanted to participate in a Canada Seminar first is that it
wants to try the home stay. I am not good at English. I was uneasy before went to
Canada. However, I could really learn so many things that I didn't know while I
stayed in Canada.
I was surprised the environment in Canada. Because Canada is different
from Japan. Canada has flat gland, and many trees. But Japan has many tall
buildings. Two weeks spent for me in Canada were two very thick, pungent
week. There were a lot of experiences that were able to be done because it was a
home stay. It became a chance to want to study English more. I want to make the
best use of the experience by a Canadian Seminar and to study English more.

The Canada Seminar was a very good experience for me. I'm not so good
at English but I was able to communicate with my host family and Canadian
students. I was nervous and anxious. But the beautiful scenery in Canada and the
Canadian people's kindness made me relieved.
Day by day, I got to know my host family and I started to understand what
they were saying. For example, my host family asked me questions at dinner
about my favorite food, singer, music, animal etc... When we were at the store,
my host family asked me “Which do you like better, this milk or that milk” and
so on.
After the Canada Seminar, my host family sent me a photo album and a
letter.
I'm very happy. My goal is to become a dancer so English is necessary. From
now, I’ll do my best studying English!

“My life in Canada”
I went to Canada for the first time! I took lessons in English. Life of
Canada was full of deeply impression but I think that I write the thing spent in
host family's house here.
I woke up at 8:00 every day. School starts 9:00. Breakfast is a hot dog and
a pancake etc... There were very delicious!! My host mother likes Japanese tea!
so she served green tea every breakfast. My host father took me to the school by
car. As for the class of English was very fun!! And times passes at all. The host
mother picked me up when the class was over. On the way back from school, we
dropped in the convenience store and Starbucks.
The supper time is early from 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock. We go out after the
supper. We were playing the Game in house but also go shopping and
department store, play baseball. My host family took us the amusement park and
the pool with my friends on the week end!! When I back home, I went to bed at
once. Because I'm very tired. However, I think if I don't speak with host family,
it is loss!!
Next day, we stayed up until about 12 o'clock at night. I spoke the school
of the day and I showed to things which I bought it in the shopping with host
family. I was able to learn the difference of life with Japan and the culture of
Canada in this seminar though I was a few. After returning to Japan,
I'm occasionally doing mail with the host family and friends in Canada. I
want to visit to my host family someday and want them to come to my house in
Japan!!

Going to a lot of countries is my one of the dreams so I decided to go to
Canada this year. I'm interested in English and I want to meet many different
kind of people in the future. I heard Canadian people are kind very much.
When I actually met them, I thought so too. Host family and Canadian
girls and teachers were always kind to me. I regretted that I can't talk to
Canadian girls well at school at first. Because I was nervous a little and didn't
have no idea what I should talk to them. But they friendly so we could become
good friends. Sometimes we send mail each other. It makes me happy and it
is also good English practice for me. I was able to make a lot of memories
from this seminar.

I made a lot of memories and experiences in two weeks' stay in Canada.
It was my very first time to go abroad and stay with host family. Host family
took us to many places, for example, shopping wall and wall-mart stores and
nearby park and lake. We went to relative’s house on week end.
After lunch their children and we played “water fight”, splashing water.
On 10th day at Airdrie Middle School, we had pizza party. We ate pizza
together at lunch time. But I didn't like cola-like drink.
It was just two week's stay. I understood Canadian culture a little. I
learned that I must know about Japanese culture when understanding Canadian
culture. If I have a chance, I want to visit Canada again.

一歩前へ
～新しい出逢いに勇気を出して～
今年度カナダセミナーに参加した中学３年 D 組の S・S です。
今日は皆さんにカナダセミナーについて紹介し、私がカナダセミナーで学んだ「勇気を出してカナダ
の人たちに話しかけることの大切さ」について話したいと思います。
私は、セミナー2 日目の 7 月 19 日から、カナダのカルガリーにある学校で授業を受けていました。
各クラスには、現地の中学生が 3~4 人居て学園生と一緒に授業を受けます。最初は自己紹介を英語
でするところから授業が始まり、その日から同じグループの人と話しているうちにだんだん仲良くな
りました。
学校では毎日、昨日したことや先生が決めた１つのテーマについてノートブックに英作文をしてまと
めます。その後は、みんなで昼食をとったり、バレーボールをしたり、サッカーをしたりしました。
日後、私はインスタントラーメンの乾麺を、そのまま食べているカナダの生徒が居たので、そ
れを話題にして話しかけたくて、思い切って聞いてみました。
「Is it delicious?」返ってきた言葉は「Yes!」でした。
その後、その子は乾麺を私にくれて仲良くなり、それから朝廊下で会うと自分から挨拶したり、休み
時間に一緒に遊んだりすることが自然にできるようになりました。
最初に話しかけることができると、その後は緊張せずに話しができてみんな友達になりました。
ホストファミリーとは最初は緊張して「I am Shota.」しか本当に言えませんでした。
家に帰ってトランポリンで遊んでいるうちに自分の気持ちが楽になって、次第に話せるようになりま
した。
ですが、最初は耳が慣れなくて何回か「Sorry, one more please.」と言って何回も聞き直しました。
でも、そのうち耳が慣れてきて、ホストファミリー全員と一緒にテレビゲームをしたり、家事の手伝
いをしたりしているうちに、自分の気持ちを相手に伝えられるようになりました。私は自分の気持ち
を伝えられるようになって嬉しかったです。
それと同時にホストファミリーは普段酢買う言葉や生活する場所が違ったり、数日一緒に生活しただ
けだけど心の中は近い存在で、たとえ私が話す英語が文になっていなくても同じ気持ちを共有して、
もっともっとホストファミリーとの存在を近くしたかったので、ホストファミリーに震災のことを話
そうと思いました。
一番自分の中で満足していることは、震災の事を知ってもらえた事です。
自分の気持ちを英語にして相手に伝えることは難しいし、カナダは地震が無いのでホストファミリー
がイメージするのも難しいし、今回の震災のことについて話そうか迷いましたが、「一歩前へ」出よ
うと思いました。

間違えたとしても、英語でスラスラ話せなくても良いから話してみようと思いました。
私は、ホストファミリーの親戚がみんな集まっている中で、ひとりで必死に話しました。
地震の揺れや津波、交通手段が無くなって学校に泊まったことも話せました。少しですけど原子力発
電所から放射能が漏れて危険だということも話せました。
でも、実際は全然文になっていなかったかもしれないけど、
「伝える」ということに意味があるから、
ちゃんと伝えたいことを伝えられて本当に良かったです。
ホームステイ後半に、私のホストファミリーに「日本に帰らないで。」と何回も言ってもらえました。
その時、私も日本に帰りたくないと思いました。
もし、自分の気持ちを伝えられなかったら、きっと言ってもらえなかったと思います。
今回カナダセミナーに参加して感じたことは、間違えたり、相手に伝わらないかも、と思ったりしな
いで、仲間のかたまりから一歩出て話してみることがすごく大切だと思いました。
自分 1 人で気持ちを伝える毎日が私にとって貴重な体験で、それがとても自信になりました。
私は、カナダセミナーに行く前に、英語のテストの点数とか、評価があまり良くなくて自信がありま
せんでした。でも、実際カナダに行ってみて、英語で誰かと話したいというやる気、もっと英語で話
したいという意欲、新しく出会った人達ともっともっと話したいという気持ちがあれば絶対大丈夫だ
と思いました。
私は、来年もカナダに行きたいと思っているので、皆さんもその時は一緒にカナダを楽しみましょう。

果物がそのまま入っているので、丸かじり！少し大変だ。

プレゼンテーションではもう少し大きな声で話すのと、自分の読む文を多くすればよかった。

この遊びは、本当に楽しかった。

＊ カナダのお札・コインの種類の呼び方やカウントの仕方、チップや税金について勉強する。

＊ 自分達の学校について英作文した。
＊ カナダの学校と日本の学校の相違点をまとめた。
＊ 昼の Canadian café の準備のために、客役と店員役を決めて買い物の手順と対応の仕方を英語で
どう表現するのかを学んだ。

＊ ご飯が足りなかった。（多くて困っている人もいましたが・・）

＊ 模擬店（アイスクリーム屋）
卵が入ったパンとビスケットを食べた。

クリスタルクラスの生徒が店員役（Host/ Server/ Cooks/ Table Busser に分かれる）、アマンダクラ
(Activity)
スの生徒が客役（customer）で、その後、役割を交代した。店員は実際にメニューを準備し、オー
ダーをとり、アイスクリームをサーブした。お会計には、合計金額だけでなく、チップや税金も加
算し、お金(fake money)を使って英語を練習した。

昼食後バレーボールを皆でした。

Canadian assistants も見てくれていた。

次の５つのゲームを班ごとにローテーションしてまわった。

Taste testing / Can you find what’s different / Broken telephone
Charades / Alphabet boggle
全員で最後に Anything bowl（日本の「なんでもバスケット」のようなもの）を英語を使っ
てやってみた。

＊Canadian Assistant に年齢を聞いてみたら、14 歳と言っていた。

＊English Skit（英語で小さな劇をするアクティビティ）の内容について先生から説明を受け
たあと、みんなで話し合った。

＊Avril Lavigne の歌を聴いて歌詞の穴埋めをしたが、難しかった。

＊ バスの中で食べた。（Heritage Park に行く途中）

機関車か馬車、観覧車のどれかに乗れるチケットがあって、観覧車に乗ったら楽しかった。
昔のカナダを再現した場所で、ビリヤード場、病院、印刷屋、教会などがあった。

＊日本の海苔があまり好きでないカナダ人が多い。

＊カナダのお菓子は着色料がたくさん入っている。

＊ホストファミリーへのメッセージを書いていたら泣けてきた。

＊カナダの歴史を勉強した。深い・・・。

＊ピーナッツバターのサンドイッチ。どうしてバターも一緒にぬるのか？

よくわからない。日本食が恋しい。
＊リンゴが丸ごと１個入っているのが普通になってきた。味覚がシャットアウト。

＊カナダのバスは降りるとき、ボタンもあるが、ワイヤーを引っ張って運転手に伝える。
