1997年セネガル共和国ダカールにてマリ帝国時代から
代々続くGriot（世襲制の伝承音楽家）の家庭に生まれる。
6歳でダカールの音楽学校に入り、兄弟たちと10人とコラ（西アフリカ発祥のリュ
ート型弦楽器）のグループを結成。
1980年、9歳の時にフィンランドのヘルシンキにて初の海外公演を行う。
1994年、ゴレ島に移住し「Africa Djembe」に加入。コラとジェンベを演奏する。
1997年、「Ocean Percussion Company of Goree Island」結成。パリ、イタリア、
アムステルダムなどヨーロッパ各地で演奏する。その後レゲエバンド「Selebe Yone」
を結成。アルバム「Dounouya」をリリースしダカールやセネガル各地のナイトク
ラブで演奏する。
2007年より拠点をアメリカ
カリフォルニア州サンタクルーズに移し、
「Koumbemba」を結成。2008年にアルバム「A Tribute To Bakary」を発売。
現在もアメリカ各地で活躍中。

Karamo Cissokho, better known as Kara, was born in 1979 in Dakar, Senegal. He
comes from a long lineage of Griot families that dates back to the Empire of Mali.
Kara picked up the Kora at 6 years old, then joined the Conservatory of Music of
Dakar; with his brothers and sisters Kara participated in a family musical group of
ten Korists.
In 1988, at the age of 9, he did his first international performance in
Helsinki, Finland.
In 1994 Kara moved to Goree Island and joined the group Afriqua Djembe and
played the kora and the djembe.
In 1997 he founded and led the Ocean Percussion Company of Goree Island and
performed in many European cities such as Paris, Italy, France and Amsterdam.
He then founded the reggae group Selebe Yone and released the album
Dounouya and performed in various night clubs in the capital of Dakar and many
other places in Senegal.
He has lived in Santa Cruz, California since 2007. He founded the group
Koumbemba and released an acoustic album " A Tribute To Bakary " in 2008.
