History
AIS の歴史
Aichi International School, under its former
name of Nagoya International Preschool, was
founded in the spring of 2000 with the mission
of providing children with the skills that they
will need to be contributing members of the
new “Global Society” that is surfacing in the 21st
century.
愛知インターナショナルスクールは、２１
世紀のグローバル社会に貢献できるスキル
を子ども達に提供するという使命の下、
「名古屋インターナショナルプレスクー
ル」として、２０００年の春に創立されま
した。
１４名の児童と２名の教員とささやかな立
ち上げに始まり、場所の移転、初等部の開
設、名称の変更、１００名の児童と１７名
の常勤教員をかかえるまでに成長しまし
た。
From its humble beginning of 14 students and 2
teachers, the school has since moved location,
developed an elementary school, changed
name, and has grown to a school of around 100
students and 17 full time teachers.
The elementary school elementary program
was added to the existing preschool in April
2006 with the opening of the Aichi International
School (AIS) in the current location.
AIS was accredited by the Western Association
of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the United
States in 2009 (from K to G4). Then, following a
WASC Visiting Committee report in November
2013, the school had its accreditation extended
to G6. More recently AIS has been granted
membership to the UNESCO Associated Schools
group. Similarly, AIS is a participant in the
Presidential Youth Fitness Program, with the
students receiving bronze medal awards in
March 2015 for their efforts in sports
throughout the 2015/16 school year.
そして、２００６年４月、現在の場所に、
初等部の教育課程を加えた愛知インターナ
ショナルスクール（ＡＩＳ）が開校しまし
た。
ＡＩＳは、学校教育法第一条に定められた
認可校になることをめざして設立されまし
たが、校舎の設計が認可基準を満たしてい
ないなどの理由もあり、認可を受けること
が難しい状態にあります。その代わりとし
て、２００９年に米国西部地域私立学校大
学協会 WASC（Western Association of
Schools and Colleges）から認定を受けま
した（幼稚部～４年生）。その後、２０１
３年１１月に WASC 委員会の訪問がありま
した。そして、現在６年生まで WASC の認定
を受けております。また、最近ではユネス
コスクール加盟校となりました。また、子
ども達の２０１４年度のスポーツへの取り
組みを評価され、「Presidential Youth
Fitness Program」から銅賞をいただきまし
た。

Greetings
校長挨拶
Welcome to the 2015/16 school year at AIchi
International School. I would like to extend a
warm welcome to the numerous new families
from around the world that have chosen to join
the elementary school program here at AIS.
This school year will see the school build on the
foundations and hard work that were started in
the last school year. In the previous 12 months
we joined the Presidential Youth Fitness
Program and the Sakura Medal initiative. We
will be continuing to participate in these
programs, plus we will be pursuing other
opportunities for the school and the students
for the new school year.
The 2015/16 will be an emotional year, as we
say goodbye to our new 6th grade students.
Some have not been in AIS for so long, whilst
others have been here for 10 years. Three
members of the class were in my first grade
class, when I was their homeroom teacher. The
class had 13 students in it, and to see 3 of them
grow up, and complete their elementary school
education at AIS, has been a pleasure.
There will always be things that are added to
the calendar, that we decide to do throughout
the year, such as having sumo wrestlers at the
school a few years ago, or last year, having a
World Cup breakfast. Hopefully, over the course
of the next 12 months we will be able to add
something new to the calendar for the 2015/16
school year.
Thank you for choosing AIS for your child's

working with you all over the course of the

愛知インターナショナルスクール（ＡＩ
Ｓ）の２０１５年度が始まりました。新た
に、本校初等部へ入学・転入してくださっ
た皆様を心より歓迎いたします。
さて、今年度は、昨年度から始めた取り組
みに引き続き力を入れていきます。昨年
度、本校は「the Presidential Youth Fitness
Program」と「サクラメダル」に参加しまし
た。これらのプログラムに継続的に参加す
るとともに、新しい活動への取り組みも行
っていきます。
また、２０１５年度は新６年生という卒業
生を送る感動的な１年となるでしょう。在
籍期間が短い子もおりますが、中には１０
年間本校に通っている子もおります。新６
年生のうちの３名は、私が１年担任をした
際の教え子です。当時このクラスは１３人
でした。３名の子ども達の成長と、ＡＩＳ
で初等教育を修了するのを見届けることは
大きな喜びです。
過去に開催した「相撲力士の学校訪問」や
昨年度の「ワールドカップ観戦朝食会」な
ど、本校では年間を通じて年間カレンダー
につけ加えられるイベントがあります。２
０１５年度も何か新しいことを加えられま
すよう考えております。
最後になりましたが、ＡＩＳ初等部を選ん
でいただきありがとうございます。この１
年、保護者の方とともに子ども達の教育に
力を注いでいけることを楽しみにしており
ます。

AIS is open from 8am to 5pm. The scheduled
drop-off and pick-up times for each class are as
shown below:

As homeroom begins promptly at 8:30am,
please be sure that your child is here for the
first bell. This is an important time of the day as
many announcements are made and daily
schedules are reviewed.

 Please note that all students are
dismissed at 3.30pm on Thursdays.
Students being picked up after the scheduled
times will be charged a fee of 315 Yen per 15

クラスの登校時間より早く登校する場合、早朝
After-School is also available until 5pm for a fee
of 1,260 yen per hour or 324 yen per 15 minute
segment.
AIS is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and
National Holidays as well as for two weeks over
Christmas and New Year’s, two weeks in March
(spring vacation) and one month in the
summer. The school is generally closed on
Sundays and National Holidays, although some
special events may be held on these days. The
school year runs from the beginning of April
through to mid-March. The year is divided into
3 terms; the first term runs from the beginning
of April to mid-July; the second term runs from
the beginning of September to mid-December;
料金（15 分 324 円）がかかります。
延長は午後 5 時までご利用頂けます。料金は 15
分毎に 324 円です。
学校の休みは土日祝日です。６週間の夏休み、
クリスマスと新年を含んだ約 2 週間の冬休み、2
週間の春休みがあります。基本的に土日祝日は
休みですが、特別なイベントがこれらの日に開
催されることもあります。
なお、ＡＩＳは４月から 3 月中旬までが年度と
なります。4 月から 7 月中旬までが１学期、9 月
から 12 月中旬までが 2 学期、1 月から 3 月中旬
までが 3 学期という、3 学期制を行っております。

*** There may be times when AIS will need to
make some changes due to various reasons
throughout the year. If an event date needs to
be changed, AIS will let parents know of the
changes in advance.
Similarly throughout the school year optional
events may be added to the calendar. In 2014/15
a World Cup breakfast, a fashion show/art
evening, and a field trip to watch a professional
ice hockey game were added.

Arrival & Departure
To help alleviate traffic congestion and to make
arrival and departure easier for our families,
elementary AIS staff members will be stationed
outside of the school from 8:00am to 8:30am
followed by two or more kindergarten staff
members from 8:30am to 9:30am in the
mornings to receive the students and send
them safely into the school. Likewise at pick-up
time, AIS staff will again be stationed outside
until 4:15pm in the afternoon to deliver
children safely to their parents.
If Elementary School parents come to school for
an appointment or to collect a child early (to go
to the dentist) etc. then you may park outside
of the school, providing it is not at drop off/pick
up times; 8-9.30am and 2.30-4.15pm. Parents
who are collecting children from after school
clubs may park and wait for their children.
We must insist that AIS families do not park in
front of our neighbors’ places both to the left
and right of the AIS building. Observing this
rule will help us maintain good relations with
our neighbors.
If another adult will be collecting your child in
the afternoon, the school must be notified in
writing by the legal guardian of the child. A
written letter should be passed to your
classroom teacher or the office including the
name of the person scheduled to pick up your
child. Without proper notification, AIS is
obliged, for legal reasons, not to release your
child. Students travelling to and from school on
their own must submit a permission form,
signed by their parents.
送迎
登校時、学校周辺に発生する交通渋滞を緩和す
る為に午前８時〜８時３０分の間は２名の初等
部職員、そして、８時３０分〜９時３０分まで
は、幼児部職員がお子様を迎えます。授業終了
後も、４時１５分まで初等部教員が安全にお子
様を保護者の方へお渡しします。なお、送迎時
はドライブスルー方式をとっておりますので、
学校前駐車場への駐車はご遠慮ください。ご兄
弟が幼児部に在籍してみえる場合は、初等部の
下校時間に合わせてお迎えにきて頂いても構い
ません。その場合、アフターケア料金は発生し
ません。ただし、午後４時１５分以降はアフタ
ーケアの対象となりますので、予めご了承下さ
い。アフターケアのお迎えの際は、車を駐車
し、該当教室までお迎えをお願いします。
早退時のお迎えや学校への用事などでご来校さ
れる際は、午前８時～９時３０分および午後２
時３０分から４時１５分の送迎時間以外は学校
前の駐車場に車を停めることができます。ま
た、アフタースクールのお迎えの際も、学校前
の駐車場をご利用いただけます。また、学校周
辺に住まわれている方々との円滑な関係を保つ
ために、ご近所の家の前に駐車する事も禁止し
ております。ご協力とご理解をお願い致しま
す。
また、保護者の方以外がお迎えをされる場合
は、必ず保護者の方から学校へご連絡くださ
い。迎えに来られる方のお名前などを、書面に
て担任またはオフィスまでお知らせください。
お知らせがない場合は、安全上お子様をお渡し
できませんので、ご注意ください。また、お子
様のみで登下校される場合は、保護者の方の署
名入りの届け出用紙をご提出ください。

Field Trips
AIS conducts regular field trips for its students.
Generally, students will attend one field trip per
term. Trips are often related to the themes
being explored within the program at the time
and assist teachers to extend the children’s
learning beyond the classroom. Parents will be
asked to sign a permission slip before their child
attends an excursion. Groups will travel to
destination by school bus or subway. Parents
will be notified of all arrangements in advance.
A first aid kit, cell phone and list of emergency
numbers will be in possession of the teacher
leading the field trip.
遠足
初等部では定期的に遠足を行います。通常、遠
足は各学期 1 回です。各クラスのその時のテー
マに沿った場所へ出かけ、教室以外で学びの場
を広げる事が目的です。保護者の方々には、必
ず事前に参加許可書へサインをして頂きます。
交通手段はスクールバス、または地下鉄を使用
します。救急セット、携帯電話、緊急連絡先表
は、引率教員が持参します。
Lunches & Snacks
In accordance with article 2 of the lunch code
and recognizing the importance of school
lunches, AIS ensures that every elementary
school student receives a school lunch. AIS
families have the option of ordering from our
lunch service, Health Clean Delicious Lunch
Center, or bringing in a lunch from home. HCD
Lunch Center offers mostly Japanese-style lunch
and can be purchased for 7500 yen per month.
Lunches for children with allergies are available
for 8800 yen per month.
Snacks can be eaten daily at the 10:20am
morning break. Students are encouraged to
bring in healthy snacks from home and are
encouraged not to share snacks with friends, as
some children have allergies. If someone brings
a snack in for everyone and the teacher has
approved the snack to be distributed, then
snacks may be passed out. Gum is strictly
prohibited within the AIS building. AIS also
requests families to send healthy snacks and
avoid sending candy, chocolate and other
sweets as much as possible.
The school is very attentive to allergies and has
an allergy chart located in the office as well as
all classrooms based on the information
provided on the application form. If you would
like to make sure this information is accurate,
please talk with your classroom teacher.
ランチとおやつ
学校給食法第２条および学校給食の重要性に基
づき、AIS では初等部では、学校にて昼食をと
ることになっています。昼食は、スクールラン
チ（要注文）またはお弁当です。HCD ランチセ
ンターのスクールランチは主に日本食で、費用

は月７５００円です。食物アレルギー対応ラン
チもあります（月８８００円）。
学校では、毎日午前１０時２０分からのスナッ
クタイム時に、おやつを食べることもできま
す。ご家庭で、健康的なおやつを用意していた
だくことを勧めております。アレルギーを持っ
たお子様もいらっしゃいますので、おやつを友
達と分け合うことはできません。クラス全員に
配れる物で、担任が許可した場合は、お土産な
どのお菓子を配ることができます。ガムは禁止
です。また、おやつは、できるだけ飴やチョコ
レート、その他の甘いものは控え、健康的な物
にしてください。
当校では、アレルギーについて細心の注意を払
っており、保護者の方から頂いた情報をもとに
アレルギー表をオフィスや各教室に掲示してお
ります。内容を確認したい場合は、担任までお
問い合わせください。
Outside Play
Elementary students are allowed to play at
Nijigaoka Park in the morning from 8:00am8:25am with AIS Staff supervision.
Kindergarten siblings may play in the park with
parent supervision. As the park is a public area,
we are encouraged to play inside on some days
as well to allow other neighbors the
opportunity to use the park at this time. In
addition to morning recess, several times
throughout the week, children will be escorted
to a park for outside play time.
Please ensure that your child is dressed in
comfortable clothes and shoes that are suitable
for walking (and running). As the children grow
at different rates, please monitor the size of
your child’s shoes. Teachers will also be on the
look out for children who claim that their shoes
are too tight. A jacket and gloves should be
sent with your child in the winter. A first aid kit,
insect repellent, mobile phone and drinking
water will be taken by staff, outside for
journeys further away from school.
Due to the weather and/or other scheduling
changes, we ask that children be ready for
outside play everyday. We will try our best to
accommodate requests from parents that their
child stay inside due to illness. However, in rare
situations, AIS may not be able to meet this
request if there is nobody left in the school to
provide supervision.
外遊び
初等部生は、登校後、午前 8 時から 8 時 25 分ま
で虹ヶ丘公園で遊ぶことができます。その際
は、初等部の先生が付き添います。初等部にご
兄弟がいる幼児部生は、保護者様同伴でした
ら、一緒に遊ぶことができます。毎朝の放課に
加え、1 週間を通じて数回外遊びの時間を取り
入れています。そのため、運動に適した服や靴
をご用意ください。また、日々の成長に合わ
せ、衣類と靴の大きさが適しているかをご確認
ください。靴がきつい子がいれば学校からもお
知らせします。冬期はコートや手袋を着用して
ください。
学校から離れた屋外へ行く際は、救急セット、
虫よけ、携帯電話、飲料水を教員が持参しま

す。天候により、予定がない日でも外遊びをす
る場合がありますので、毎日外遊びができるよ
ますので、その点はご了承ください。
With the exception of specified events AIS
Elementary School students must wear their
uniforms daily. Studies show that school
uniforms promote discipline, cooperation, and
good study habits within a school, and help
keep students safer outside of the school.
Parents are responsible for students owning a
summer and a winter uniform. Uniforms are
ordered through AIS from Yabe Pro Cutting.
Students are required to wear their uniforms
daily. Students are also required to wear their
uniforms on field trips unless otherwise advised
by teachers.
Attendance
AIS backpacks are a part of the uniform and
should be brought on field trip days unless
otherwise advised by the school. Elementary
students are also required to have a PE uniform
complete with shorts for summer and pants and
a jacket for winter. Comfortable shoes should
be kept at school for PE and play times.

しますが、校内で見守る教員がいないなどの理
由で、校内で過ごすことができない場合もあり
Students are expected to attend school and
arrive on time for class. Children should be
ready to join their homeroom class at 8:30am
and begin their day ready to learn. If your child
will not be attending school on a particular day,
you must inform the school prior to 8:30 by
calling 052-788-2255. This is not only as a
courtesy, but also to assist AIS teachers with
their planning.
出欠席
登校時間や授業開始時間は守るようにしてくだ
さい。朝 8 時 30 分にホームルームが始まります
ので、遅れないよう登校してください。遅刻ま
たは欠席する場合は、8 時 30 分までに、ＡＩＳ
オフィス（052-788-2255）へご連絡ください。
Uniforms
Uniform fitting days will be announced and
scheduled at the beginning of the first term and
throughout the year.
Summer uniforms may be worn from June to
the end of September. Overcoats must be
brought to the school from December to the
end of February.
制服
初等部では、毎日制服を着用してください。制
服は、学校内の規律、協力、良い学習習慣の定
着とともに、校外での安全を促進すると言われ
ています。保護者の方の責任で、夏用および冬
用の制服をご準備ください。
制服は学校指定の矢部プロカッティングの制服
の着用をお願いします。担任から特別な指示が
ない場合は、遠足も制服着用で出かけます。

スクールバッグも制服の一部で、同様の扱いで
お願いします。体育の際は、AIS 指定の体操服
（夏：T シャツとショートパンツ、冬：T シャ
ツ、ロングパンツ、ジャケット）をご用意下さ
い。体育の授業と外遊びのための運動靴は学校
保管となります。

矢部プロカッティングによる制服採寸日を年に
数回設けております。随時お知らせします。
夏用の制服を着用する期間は、6 月から 9 月末
までとなります。冬用コートは 12 月～2 月末ま
でご使用下さい。
学校の規則
AIS では、いくつかの規則を設けています。教
員は 1 日を通して、これらの規則を守るように
していきます。また、保護者の方からも学校生
活の中で子ども達が規則を守るように促してく
ださい。なお、学校の規則のほかに、各クラス
において、規則を設ける場合があります。内容
を確認したい場合は担任へご連絡ください。

School Rules
AIS has established a set of rules for the benefit
of the students. The teachers implement the
following rules throughout the day, and we ask
that parents also help enforce them, especially
when they are in the school at arrival and
departure times. Aside from the school rules,
each classroom follows a more specific set of
rules and procedures designed for that
particular class. Please talk with your classroom
teacher to find out more about your class rules.

class or with Japanese teachers and
English the rest of the time.

No Toy Policy
No toys should be brought from home. AIS has
a large stock of educational toys and resources
for all the students to access throughout the
day. Children naturally feel ownership of toys
from home, and are often reluctant to share
them with other members of the class. Loss or
breakage of toys from home may also occur, so
please endure that this rule is followed
consistently. The only exception to this rule is

when and if a teacher asks students to bring
something from home for an assignment or
special event.
おもちゃ持参禁止
本校では、家庭からおもちゃを持参することを
禁止しています。学校には、教材玩具が充分揃
っております。家庭から持ってきたおもちゃに
対して所有意識が強く、クラス内の子どもと共
有することを嫌がることがあります。また、お
もちゃの破損や紛失が起こる可能性もあります
ので、どうぞご協力をお願いします。なお、例
外として、課題や特別な行事などのために、教
員がおもちゃを持参するよう依頼する場合があ
ります。
写真について
クラス内や学校行事など、撮影した写真はスマ
グマグのウェブサイト ais.smugmug.com. を利用
し、公開しています。このサービスを使って、
ご家庭や遠くに離れたご親戚も写真を閲覧して
いただけます。なお、プライバシー保護のた
め、閲覧するためにはパスワードが必要となり
ます。パスワードは年に数回更新します。その
際は学校よりお知らせいたします。

School photos can now be accessed at
ais.smugmug.com. This service allows parents
to download photos at their leisure and share
the photos with family and friends who may be
living elsewhere. To protect the privacy of our
students and their families, this website is
password protected. Passwords will be
changed every year. Parents will be notified
every year of the new password.
It is the responsibility of the child’s parents to
inform the school of any change to the details
provided on their enrollment form. It is
essential that the school be informed of such
changes as:
 New phone numbers (home, business
or cell phone)
 A new address
 A newly recognized allergy or illness

Earthquake and Fire Drills
Both earthquake and fire drills will be performed
once every term so that students will be familiar
with what they need to do in case of an
earthquake or fire.
Building/Facilities
The AIS school building has been approved by
KAKUNIN Service Inc. for use as a children’s
school. The design of the building meets all of
the strictest building codes, and the walls are all
fire resistant. All of the rooms on the first floor
have doors that lead outside, and the building’s
three stairways allow students on the second
floor to quickly exit the building in the event of
an emergency. The library is also equipped with
an escape apparatus. Fire extinguishers are
placed throughout the building and are
inspected twice annually by the fire marshal. All
of the teachers are familiar with the locations of
the fire extinguishers and how to use them. The
school has enough water and food to last for at
least two days.

初等部は、幼児部と合同で毎学期に１度、異な

設備・施設
子ども達が日々使用する本校舎は、株式会社確
認サービスにて構造検査を受け、承認を得てお
ります。校舎の壁はすべて準耐火構造基準を基
に作られています。また、１階の全室内に非常
ドアがあり、緊急時には建物に設置された３つ
の階段を利用することで、２階にいる子ども達
も素早く避難することが可能です。図書室に
もし、特定の日または特定の期間に名古屋地方
で地震が起こる可能性があると予報または警報
が発令された場合、予報や警報が解除されるま
でご自宅で待機してください。その際は、学校
からメールシステムを利用して、保護者の方々
へご連絡いたします。

警報が午前 6：00 までに解除された場合、
通常通り開校します。
**公立の学校と違い、ＡＩＳには遠方から登校
してみえる方も多いため、警報が解除されても
も、小窓があり、それを使用して避難できま

状況に応じて休校にする場合があります（授業

Large Earthquake Scenario
Earthquake Forecast
Although not perfected yet, certain methods are
being researched for predicting when and where
an earthquake will hit. If the government
determines through these methods that there is
a very high probability that an earthquake will hit
the Nagoya region on a particular day, or within
a particular time, we ask that parents keep their
children at home until the danger passes or the
forecast is recalled. Parents will be informed of
school closure via mailing system.
 If the warning is recalled before
6:00am, the school shall open as usual.
*** Please note that many AIS families live far
from the school. In this case, although the
warning is recalled before a specific time, AIS
may remain closed the entire day. Parents will
be notified by mailing system.

In the event that a large earthquake hits the
Nagoya region and the AIS building sustains
severe damage, members from Fourin (our
parent company) shall be dispatched and arrive
at the school within ten minutes. Any students
with serious injuries shall be taken immediately
to Kimura hospital located two minutes from AIS.
All other students and staff shall proceed to the
evacuation center where we shall wait until all of
the children are claimed by their parents. The
AIS staff will attempt to contact the PTA after the
students have been secured in the evacuation
center. Parents concerned about their child’s
safety should first try to contact their PTA
representative before contacting the school of
staff. Since telecommunications can be
unreliable after a major natural disaster, signs
explaining the conditions and whereabouts of
the children shall be posted on the AIS entrance.
Parents who are unable to make any contact and
who are unsure about where to go should
proceed to the AIS building and then to the
evacuation center (Nishiyama Elementary
School).

大地震
名古屋地方で大地震が襲い、校舎に大損害があ
った場合、関連会社フォーインの社員が１０分
以内に駆けつけます。重症者がいる場合は、木
村病院まで直ちに搬送いたします。教員は、残
りの子ども達と一緒に避難所まで移動した後、
保護者の方へご連絡します。もし、お子様の安
否について確認したい場合は、学校に連絡する
のではなく、まずは緊急連絡網の初めの方に連
絡をいれてください。大災害後の電話通信はつ
ながりにくい場合は、学校玄関に状況と居場所
について書いた張り紙をします。学校と連絡が
取れず、どこに行けばいいのか分からない場合
は、まずＡＩＳまでお越しいただき、その後、
避難場所の西山小学校までお越しください。
警報が午前 6：00 までに解除された場合、

Heavy Snow Warning
In the event of a snow warning, AIS will follow
up-to-date weather reports and notify parents
via the phone tree if the school shall be closed
due to heavy snow or unsafe road conditions. If
heavy snow storms occur after students have
arrived at AIS, school will go on as scheduled
and students will be kept at AIS until conditions
are safe for parents to come to the school to
pick up their children.

Typhoon Warnings
In the event of a typhoon warning, AIS shall
follow the same procedures as the elementary
schools in the Nagoya area. In other words, if
the elementary schools begin sending their
students home early, we shall also ask our PTA
to notify AIS parents to pick up their children as
soon as possible. We ask that emergency
phone lines such as personal cell phones be
kept open as much as possible if there is a
chance that a typhoon may approach Nagoya.


Communication
Parent Meetings
An All Elementary Parent Meeting will be
throughout the school year. Meeting dates can
be found on the school calendar.
DLR/Homework Binder
Elementary students each have a B5 size
communication binder that they are to bring to
school every day. This binder holds their DLR
(daily language review) homework, homework
record keeping sheets, school money record
sheets and a communication section for parents
and teachers to keep communication records
about class, pick-up schedules, medication, etc.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences are held twice a
year during the first and second terms and are
scheduled for three days. During this week,
students come to school for morning classes
and get picked up after lunch. Please note that
after school activities will not be held during
this week. Parents are asked to pick their child
up after lunch. We kindly ask that parents with
siblings in the kindergarten come and pick up
their elementary child after lunch. Parents who
are absolutely unable to pick up their child or
take time off work, will be allowed to keep their
child at AIS until the regular pick up time.

保護者総会
年度中に初等部保護者総会を開催します。
日程はスクールカレンダーでご確認くださ

DLR/宿題ﾊﾞｲﾝﾀﾞｰ
初等部では各々毎日Ｂ５サイズのバインダーを
持ち帰ります。DLA(daily language review)宿
題、宿題記録、スクールマネー記録、お迎え時
間や飲み薬、授業についての連絡事項など担任
との連絡帳が入っています。
保護者懇談会
１学期と２学期に各１回、保護者と担任の面談
会を三日間の日程で行います。期間中、初等部
児童は昼食をとった後、下校となります。この
週はアフタースクールプログラムがありませ
ん。幼児部にご兄弟がみえる場合も、昼食後に
初等部のお子様のお迎えをしてくださるようご
協力お願いします。どうしてもお迎えに来られ
ない方で事前にご連絡頂いた場合のみ、定時ま
でお預かりします。
Newsletter and Bulletin Board
Elementary newsletters are posted online every
month including important dates such as parent
meetings, conferences, field trip dates, etc.
Each class teacher also has a section in the
newsletter to address both students and
parents in regards to class curriculum, issues
and exciting news. Bulletin boards are located
outside of each classroom displaying important
information and class updates.

Student Welfare
All documentation and personal information
shared with AIS is confidential and will remain
in the first floor office of AIS. The office is
equipped with a camera that surveys the room
24 hours a day. Also, official papers are kept in
a safe in the first floor office.
AIS is unable to accept children with special
physical, mental or social needs since it lacks
the facilities and specialized teachers to ensure
their safety. Furthermore, proper professional
guidance from a young age can help children
cope with or overcome challenges. Based on
article 6.2 of the Child Abuse law, AIS is legally
obliged to inform the Child Health and Welfare
Department of any cases involving the physical,
mental or emotional abuse (including neglect)
of its students. At the beginning of the school
year, family members will be asked to sign a
photo release form allowing AIS to use photos
of your child in school related publications such

as the Japan School News (JSN) monthly
newsletter, AIS news publications,
advertisements, etc. If you do not wish photos
of your child to be released, please specify so
on this form. All staff will be made aware of
photo release requests and follow accordingly.

Parking
Unfortunately parking at AIS is quite limited.
Parking at AIS is prohibited during our drive-thru
hours of 8:00am – 9:30am and 2:30pm – 4:15pm.
Times when parents are permitted to park at AIS
include field trip volunteer days, kindergarten
birthday parties, some afterschool activities and
special appointments with teachers. On days of
big events, please find parking nearby and walk to
AIS.

けるために、ドライブスルーを行っている午前
8 時から 9 時 30 分の間と、午後 2 時 15 分から 4
時 15 分までの間は、保護者の方々には学校前の
駐車場の使用は避けて頂きますようお願いたし
ます。また、虹ヶ丘公園沿いの道路は駐車禁止
と定められていますので、こちらへの駐車もお
控えください。学校行事の際は、近隣の駐車
場、または公共交通機関をご利用ください。
ＡＩＳでは、ジャパンスクールレターや広告、
ホームページなどに子ども達の写真を掲載する
ことがあります。それに伴い、年度初めに保護
者の方々に承諾書への署名をお願いしておりま
す。写真掲載をしてほしくない場合は承諾書に
その旨をご記入ください。配慮いたします。
Birthdays
If students would like to bring an extra snack for
classmates on the birthday, that will be fine.
Sometimes parents want to bring in little gifts
for the birthday celebrants. We ask that any
gift-giving be done outside of school as gifts
may get lost or broken in all of the excitement.

First Aid
AIS on the net
From time to time, AIS submits an article to a
newsletter designed for international schools in
Japan called Japan School News. Each month, a
different class is featured sharing class news
and events with the school community.
Teachers are given the opportunity to publish
their articles and copies are given to the
featured class. Copies of this article can be
found in our first floor office.
Please check the monthly school newsletter
calendar for dates of events, etc.
Aichi International School also uses a number of

First Aid supplies are located and stored in each
classroom. Teachers are responsible for ensuring
that their first aid kits are well stocked and up to
date.

AIS Violin Program
As a part of the curriculum, elementary
students learn to play violin and participate in
violin class once a week (grades 3-6) and twice a
week (grades 1-2). Students may purchase a
violin through the school or on their own
accord. Violin concerts are held once during the
first and third terms and are held in the
afternoons. After school group and private
lessons are also available.

Report Cards
Report cards are issued three times a year, once
at the end of each term. Evaluation is based on
homework, tests and teacher-created
assessments developed by AIS teachers.
PE (Physical
Education)
Elementary students participate in PE lessons
three times a week. Students change into PE
uniforms and are responsible for taking their
uniforms home at the end of the week, wash
them and return them to school for the next
weeks lessons. Students should also take home
their inside shoes and hats to be washed.
Please ensure that your child has footwear that
is suitable for outside play in the park opposite
the school building. In winter it is perfectly
acceptable for students to have undergarments,
gloves, etc. Similarly in summer it is important
that students have sunscreen, and remember to
bring their school (red) cap and water bottle.

ISA Testing
In previous years AIS students have taken SAT’s
as an assessment to determine their
performance against students in the USA. As of
2015, elementary students from Grades 3 to 6
will take ISA’s (International School’s
Assessment) in February of each year.

Should a child be injured at school, and the injury

The school requests that parents keep their
children at home if they are sick. This policy
exists for the comfort of the child as well as the
health and well-being of their fellow students
and teachers. If a child becomes sick while at

Article 20 of the School Health Act sets guidelines for the number of days a student should stay away from school in the event of

In the case that a child becomes sick with an
illness that is contagious, the school will send
home a health alert paper informing families of
the illness and its symptoms. The first alert will
go home on yellow paper. If more cases are
found at the school, a second health alert on pink
paper will be handed out. Please monitor
your child in case similar symptoms arise and
have them checked at a clinic.
Class Closure
Classes may be closed due to a contagious illness
depending on the percentage of the class that is
affected. AIS will follow the same procedures as
the elementary schools in the Nagoya area. AIS
will inform parents of the procedures and keep
families up to date should we need to close a class.

授業規律
ＡＩＳでは、包括的な規律を基にクラス運営を
School Discipline Policy
In terms of in the classroom we are operating
with an all-inclusive policy. We would like to
keep children in their respective classrooms as to
participate in all lessons. However, where
disruption to lessons takes place the teacher will
follow these steps;
1. Oral warning from the classroom teacher.
2. Student will be isolated within the lesson.
3. A teacher who is not teaching at that time
will take the student to another (empty) room
(office) to complete the work for that lesson.
Or the student will be moved to another class,
ie. a disruptive grade one student will sit in the
grade six classroom to complete their work.
This policy is for disruptive behavior, and so
that other students’ studies are not interrupted.
Each teacher will use their judgment as to what
constitutes disruptive behavior. Any cases of
bullying, theft, etc. will be assessed individually
and dealt with as separate incidents. AIS will
contact parents and ask them to come into
school to discuss any incidents that occur within
the school.
Bullying is not tolerated at AIS, and the school
has a bullying policy, that follows a 'no
bystanders' philosophy. Students learn about
these ideas through weekly assemblies on
Fridays, and the staff all have copies of what

Lastly … but possibly most importantly, why
should you come to AIS ? AIS is an accredited bilingual school. Although it is not registered as
an official school by the Japanese government,
AIS is accredited by WASC (Western Association
of Schools and Colleges). The value for AIS
parents of the school belonging to WASC is that
it provides parents with quality assurance. A
visiting committee will review the teaching and
management practices of the school, and
provide detailed feedback of the strengths and
weaknesses of the school. As part of the
accreditation cycle the school carries out a selfreview each year. This is so that, internally, the
teaching and administration staff of AIS can
analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the
school, and highlights areas for future
development. By belonging to WASC we hope
that this highlights the school’s trustworthiness
and demonstrates the improvements that occur

parents, and the school as an education facility,
with a tool of accountability.
As part of AIS’s ongoing self study process the
school received a three person team, consisting
of experienced educators, who formed the
Visiting Committee, in November 2013. As a
result of that process AIS was able to renew its
status as a WASC school, plus extend its
accreditation to K-Grade 6.

校ですが、バイリンガルの学校として北アメリ
カの学校認可協会（ＷＡＳC）の認可校だからと

Ｃに所属していることは、保護者の方へ安心感
を与えております。ＷＡＳＣの審査では、教員
や運営を評価され、学校の長所・短所について
の細かいフィードバックがあります。この認可
の更新するために、学校では毎年ふり返りを行
っております。教員と運営スタッフは、学校の
長所と短所を分析したり、より良い学校にする
ために今後力を入れるべき分野を明確にしたり

なお、ＡＩＳは、２０１３年に３名の WASC 委員
会の訪問を受け、幼稚園から小学校 6 年生まで

Bilingual
Education
AIS offers more than just developing students’
language skills. Students participate in and
develop an understanding of international
events and cultural practices of other countries,
such as Thanksgiving or international families
doing presentations of their home countries.
Exposure to a second set of customs, traditions,
and history helps their understanding of
different perspectives and acceptance of the
diverse society.
A bilingual student is more likely to have a
variety of choice and access to more
information. For AIS students to hear a song or
read a story in the original language is different
experience than to hearing the translation
version. This often prompts debate and
discussion, and these practices develop the
children’s abilities of critical thinking, self-

expression, and presentation. Bilingual children
have also demonstrated superior narrative skill.
As one of the possible reasons, these children
are less likely to be bound by words and are
more flexible in thinking due to the knowledge
of two languages. Children aged 3-8 years are
able to pick up a new language at an amazing
rate. A language is usually closely related to the
culture of the speaker. It helps children to think
creatively and lets them read multi lingual
books or literature. They are open to the option
of listening to diverse music, and are also
introduced to different cultures.

International
Opportunities
Throughout the school year all of the
elementary school students have opportunities
to learn about cultures and countries, other
than their own. On a day to day basis the
students are exposed to both Japanese and
English (language) based cultures.
バイリンガルの子ども達は、将来の選択肢や可
能性を増やす事が可能であると共に、多言語の
情報も自身で得ることができます。AIS 児童
は、歌詞や本を日本語で翻訳される前の原本の
状態で読み聞きの経験を日々しています。そし
て高学年の児童は、討論やディスカッションと
いう形で学んだ情報を整理、判断し、論理的思
考と自己表現をする練習を積み重ねてもいま
す。
However, throughout the year the school has
extra activities where the students can
participate with peers. Since 2014 AIS has been
involved in the Sakura Medal reading program.
This is a project to encourage students to read,
both Japanese and English books. There is a
drawing competition, as well as the chance to
vote for a favourite book from each section
(chapter books, picture books, etc).

Similarly, AIS has been a member of the
Presidential Youth Fitness Program, from the
USA, since June 2014. In this sports program,
AIS students accumulate points collectively for
the school. Over the course of the year if the
students reach certain targets they are able to
get bronze, silver or gold medal certificates,
signed by the President of United States.

Lastly, in March 2014 a number of students
from the elementary school attended a
homestay program in Australia. As part of this
program students were able to attend a regular
school near Brisbane, Australia for a week.
Students took part in the same lessons that
local students attended, and stayed in
pairs/threes with a homestay family. It is
anticipated that this program will be offered to
AIS families on a bi-yearly basis.
間ブリスベン近郊の小学校に通いました。地元
の小学生がいる授業に参加したり、ホストファ
ミリーと数日間過ごしたりしました。本校では
このプログラムを隔年で開催できるのではと考
えております。
ＡＩＳでは、サッカーワールドカップなど、世
界で開かれているイベントに関連した企画が全
校で毎年行われます。昨年度初等部が取り組ん
だ「調べ学習」は、ＡＩＳがユネスコスクール
に加盟できた要因の一つになりました。
During the course of each school year there are
always whole school projects related to various
events around the world, such as the soccer
world cup, or last year a research project to
support AIS's successful application to become
a UNESCO Associate School.
国際的な取り組み
年間を通じて、初等部生は他の国や文化につい
て学ぶ機会を持ちます。毎日、日本語と英語両
方の言語に基づく文化に触れています。
その他にも１年の中で特別な取り組みも行って
おります。２０１４年からは「サクラメダル読
書プログラム」に参加しました。このプログラ
ムは子ども達に日本語及び英語の本を読むこと
を薦める活動です。「サクラメダル」の本の各
部門（絵本・読み物）の中で好きな本を投票し
た他、絵画コンクール、読書感想文コンクール
にも参加しました。
また、同じく２０１４年６月からからアメリカ

ー校となりました。各児童が運動ポイントを貯
め、その合計により、米国大統領のサインが入
った銅・銀・金メダルの証書がもらえます。

Of the students that have graduated AIS we
have had students enter Nanzan Girl’s Junior
High School, Tokai Boys’ Junior High School,
Aichi Junior High School, Ritsumeikan Junior
High School (in Kyoto), Nagoya Kokusai, Nagoya
International School and ICAN. For future
graduating students we would like to make as
much information available as possible to help
parents decide where they would like parents,
such as inviting guests in to AIS to give
presentations about their respective schools.
For graduating students there are the following

*Public Junior High Schools; the entrance to
public junior high school varies from ward to
ward. The entrance procedure may require an
interview with the Principal of the school or you
may have to attend a meeting at the City Hall.
The entrance to the public school system may
also depend on the student having a diploma
from a Japanese public elementary school. If
you are contemplating your child entering into
the Japanese public junior high school system
you should contact (and register) your child at
your local elementary school as soon as
possible.
*Overseas; There is also the option of enrolling
in an overseas boarding school; AIS has an
affiliation with a school in Switzerland, and has
had contact with a number of other schools
around the world. Should this option interest
any parents we are happy to assist in providing
information about schools from around the
world.
*Private Junior High Schools; a number of
private junior high schools, including Taki, will
not allow AIS students to take the entrance
exam to enter the school. A number of others,
including the aforementioned ones, allow AIS
students to take the entrance exam.
*Private Junior High Immersion School; around
Nagoya there are a number of private junior
high schools that have immersion programs.
Generally this means that students will have 6
lessons of English a week, rather than the usual
3 that they have at a public junior high school.
Usually the design of these schools is that the
students have completed their elementary
school education at a school with a curriculum
taught in Japanese. Therefore the lessons in the
first grade classes tend to teach the basics of
English, similar to those taught at public school.
One immersion school offers English Literature
based curriculum, however the admission to
this school is limited to returnee and
international families.
*International Junior High School; Nagoya has
two international schools offering a junior high
school education. Both are WASC accredited,
and both have curriculums taught exclusively in
English.
卒業後の進路
ＡＩＳの卒業生は、南山女子中学、東海中学
校、立命館女子中学校、名古屋国際中学校、愛
知中学校、ＩＣＡＮ、ＮＩＳなどに進学してお
ります。
外部の方に来ていただき、プレゼンテーション
を行うなど、卒業後の進路についての情報をで
きるだけ多く保護者の方に提供したいと考えて
おります。
愛知県下では、卒業後の進路として以下の選択
肢が考えられます。
・公立中学校
日本の公立校はそれぞれ学区によって区別され
ています。進学の手続きとして、校長自らの面
接がある場合や、市役所に相談に行く必要があ
る場合があります。公立中学校への進学につい
ては、児童の小学校の卒業証書が必要な場合も
あります。もし、将来的に公立の中学へ進学さ
れる場合は、学区の小学校に早めに連絡をとる
事をお勧めいたします。

滝中学を含むいくつかの学校ではＡＩＳの児童

校
名古屋近郊では、いくつかの私立中学校学校が
英語イマージョン教育を取り入れています。公
立中学校が行っている週３回の英語の授業を、
倍の週６回を行っています。これらの学校へ進
学する児童は、主に、日本のカリキュラムで行
われている小学校の卒業生が主となります。で
すから、中学１年生では、公立中学校で学ぶよ
うな基本的な内容を学習することになります。
ある学校では、カリキュラムに基づいた英文学

的な家庭環境にあるお子様に限られています。

Irena Keckes is from
Croatia. She has lived in

Zealand. She has a

University of Auckland. She has been teaching in
elementary and high schools in Croatia, and on
tertiary levels in New Zealand. Irena has been a
practicing artist and a teacher in the area of
printmaking and drawing.

スティーブ・モリス先生は英国コンヴェントリ
ーの出身です。ウォリック大学の初等教育・数
学教育の学位を取りました。英国にて３年間教

also taught at a British based curriculum
kindergarten with an elementary school program
in Nagoya, Japan, as well as teaching English in
Japanese public and private schools. He has been
a teacher at AIS for 6 years, and became the
Principal of the elementary school program in
April 2012.

Chicago in the US. He

to Japan and has been teaching homeroom for
International Schools in Gifu and Osaka for the
past three years. He will be joining us here at

Rebecca Murphy

Michael Wade is
from Santa Barbara,
California. He has a

University and is CELTA

Environmental Science
and was a team-building instructor in California
for 3 years before coming to Japan. He has
coached football, soccer and track at various age
levels and competed in all three sports at the
intercollegiate level. He has lived in Nagoya for
the past 11 years and has worked at two private
high schools during that time. He will be
starting his first year at AIS from April 2015.

Yoko Ｋimura
is from Toyota,
Japan and lives in Nagoya. Before
joining AIS, she worked at public
elementary and junior high schools
for about twenty years. Now, she
enjoys teaching AIS students and is
inspired by their enthusiasm for
learning. Ms.Kimura’s specialist subject it
Japanese. She also enjoys teaching Maths.
木村陽子先生は豊田市出身、名古屋市在住で
す。公立の小学校・中学校で二十年近く勤務し
ていました。AIS に来てまだ数か月ですので、
色々な刺激を受けながら新鮮な気持ちで教えて
います。専門教科は国語ですが、算数も大好き
です。
Rick Callow
is from
Melbourne, Australia. He
has a Bachelor’s degree
in education from Victoria
University and is certified
to teach grades K-12. Rick
has taught in a variety of
educational settings in Australia, Germany and
most recently China where he was employed as a
middle school drama teacher. Rick is new to
Japan and this will be his first year teaching at
AIS.
リック・カロー先生はオーストラリアのメルボ
ルン出身です。ビクトリア大学で教育の学位を
取得し、幼稚園児から 12 歳までを教える資格を
持っています。オーストラリア、ドイツなどの
教育機関で教えた経験を持ち、最近まで中国の
中学校で演劇教師をしていました。初めての来
日で、今年度はＡＩＳでの勤務の１年目になり
ます。
Chie Watanabe
graduated from Aichi
University of the Arts and
also attended a research
program for one year. She
was a finalist at OSAKA
International Music Competition in 2013. When
she was in university, she joined the masters
class at The University of Music and Theatre in
Leipzig, Germany.
Now she performs at classic recitals, business
partys, and other live events as well as
recordings. She is a concertmistress of the
Hamamatsu Philharmonic Orchestra Association.
渡辺知絵先生は、愛知県立芸術大学卒業・同
大学研究科卒業しています。 2009 年大阪国際
コンクールファイナリストです。大学在学中、
ドイツ・ライプツィヒ音楽大学マスタークラス
に奨学生として参加としました。現在は、クラ
シックの演奏会や企業向けパーティーに出演し
ています。また、ポップスの分野ではＣＤレコ
ーディング、ライヴのバックストリングとして
出演するなど幅広い活動をしています。現在、
浜松シティーフィルハーモニー交響楽団のコン
サートミストレスを務めています。

Aichi International Elementary School Expected Student Learning Results
ESLRS represent the most essential things that students should know and be able to do by the
time they graduate . ESLRS represent not only what students should know, but how they will
approach their learning, and how they will relate that knowledge to the world around them.
