Cementless Neck Stems Market

Cementless Neck Stems Market – Trends,
Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2018-2026
Cementless stems are porous or coated implants used in total hip replacement. Through biologic
fixation the bone tissues grows into the pores of the implant and secure it firmly. Cementless
stems help reduce two major complications of hip replacement, namely, chances of infection
and loosening of the prosthesis. The pores are designed to preserve the natural nutrition of
femoral bone and facilitate rehabilitation by allowing for unrestricted blood flow. This helps
develop a strong connection between the bone and implant, which reduces the friction in the
intramedullary cavity and reduces the pain occurs in the hip post implantation.

There are different types of cementless neck stems available in market such as grit blasted,
porous-coated, HA-coated and porous plus HA. These provide different features such as porouscoated design of cementless neck stems promotes bone ingrowth and 3-dimensional interlocking
between the bone and implant, the HA-coated stems provide high strength and hydroxyapatite
coating helps to secure fixation. The cementless neck stems provide increased motion of the
stem within the artificial humeral head and artificial glenoid cavity.
A total hip replacement surgery is carried out in case of hip joint damage, rheumatoid arthritis,
osteonecrosis, fracture and bone tumors, which may lead to hip breakdown and create need of
hip replacement surgery.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in U.S. each year around
332,000 total hip replacements are performed. The percentage of cementless procedures is high
among all procedures and it is expected that this will grow year-on-year which in turn the
growth of cementless neck stems market around the globe.
Furthermore, NJR stats says that, out of all hip replacement procedures the percentage of
cementless hip replacement varies according to age group and gender such as, in men
cementless hip replacement is 50.8% in less than 55 year old, 51.6% in 55-64 year old, 42.2%
in 65-74 year old and 28.8% in more than 75 year old. Also, in case of women it is 57.1% in
less than 55 years old, 51% in 55-64 years old, 36.1% in 65-74 years old and 22.4% in more
than 75 year old.
