Philosophy, Politics and Economics BA(Hons)

Philosophy, Politics and Economics: 2017 Entry
(Students are advised to always check online the latest entry requirements as these may have changed since this document was created)
A Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree course offers the chance to study an interdisciplinary programme across three distinctive disciplines. The first
university to offer this course was Oxford. Today PPE is offered by many universities in the UK, Europe, North America, China, Japan, and Australia. Many
politicians, journalists, civil servants, authors and broadcasters studied PPE as undergraduates. Historically, the three subjects are inextricably related, with
Economics, for instance, being an offspring of Moral Philosophy, and Politics having been informed in theory and in practice by Political Philosophy.
Philosophy, Politics, and Economics may be studied separately as at Oxford, whilst at other universities such as Warwick a model that seeks to cross the
gaps between them is taught. Students should look carefully at the core and optional modules offered as theses vary from university to university.

GCSE: grade A in Mathematics is required as a minimum. Although it is
not a formal requirement, many of the strongest applicants for PPE will
also be taking AS or A level Mathematics. However, all applicants will be
considered on their individual merits.
Where an applicant is taking the EPQ in a relevant subject this might be
considered alongside other Level 3 qualifications and may attract an
alternative offer in addition to the standard offer. If you are taking A
Levels, this would be AAB at A Level (excluding General Studies and
Critical Thinking) and grade A in the EPQ.
